Do you know who is the girl on the far left of the middle barre? She is amazing and her backbend in attitude has me screaming in amazement every time! I LOVE HER!
Oh geez... they are simply stunning. How old are they? Just making sure they are older than me (hopefully) so that I still have time to become as good as them :D even though im not a girl.... they are super amazing!!!!!!!!! Urgh!
How old are you asking that question about the legs? Have you not heard of the word hereditary? You can't get legs like that. They were born like that. Um okay people ask intelligent questions.
Combo of lifestyle and genetics. I'm Russian American and I have been dancing ballet for over 15 years. My legs look very similar. The tone you can get from dancing, but the length and the small frame is all DNA.
Basically, haha. In the mainstream world, it's acceptable to be bigger, but ballet has always maintained its own standards and it makes no apologies. If you're not slender, you're out of the game.
you cant be serious. these girls have had the most rigorous training in the world for 6 years, 6 days a week. they were chosen out of a few hundred children because they were the most appropriate physically, so their bodies are ideal for ballet from the beginning. you can't change turnout or body type, and getting superhigh insteps and hyper-flexible backs as them is almost as impossible. if you're gifted - you need the teacher, lots of patience and time, and then all depends on you.
no, they're not. first they are young, second it's like the standardts of ballet are. are look at their body type - all have long limbs, etc. to approach this school these girls were strictly selected, and one of the criteria was body type.
First of all, these girls are ~15 years old. Second of all, they are naturally slender. Thirdly, they are basically... athletes. They get way more exercise than you do.

i do dance for everyday a week for 6 hrs. each except wesday andmore than just ballet! how would you even know stalker!!!!i got chosen to be in a royal acadamy group. i do competitions to!!!!! soooo i bet u that u are not as good as them!
Dancer do eat less than the average person, which seems acceptable everywhere accept America. Lunch in the cafeteria there is slim pickings though and believe it or not, most of them do eat.
You also have to remember it's a different culture. They don't have massive proprtions and "doggie bags" in most other countries than america. They numerous small meals a day.
VERY true... dancers do. and yes it is i've seen there lunch... it may consist of 3 carrots and a small meat patty with water... i dont see how they have the strength to carry on... they cant POSSIBLY be starving seeing how hard they work... they would have passed out and been on the brink of death... they HAVE to be eating... i kno because i starved myself once and i couldnt finish class...
They might have veggies and meat for lunch (if you live in the dorms you get food cards - but you have to pay extra for things like boiled eggs, etc. It's a little ridiculous. B/c of that I used to simply shop at the grocery and cook meals in the dorms), but they have snacks in between classes such as apples, veggies or even nutrition bars.
No, I'm not Russian and not really. I'm going to school to be an orthodontic assistant now... However, I'm considering starting to dance again :). That's why I was looking at these old videos. I guess I was looking for inspiration. :)
btw... nice videos. I have so many questions haha... wait are you an american or russian?... they usually don't take americans young... usually 17 and older.
it's true they have flawless technique...but the spirit...its within each girl...i've seen a video of vaganova classes..with yulia bolshakova...she has a lot of SPIRIT....it depends in each girl...
I understand what you mean... it seems like it's all technique and thought and no fun or creativity - not that ballet is all fun and games, and although I think preciseness and training is good, sometimes it becomes focused only on that and in some ways loses its emotion and creativity -
It's not completely true that ANY body type can pursue professional ballet
Maybe modern or jazz companies have more lax selection processes, but top ballet schools such as SAB have certain requirements, such as a slender frame naturally high arch/instep, etc.
These are exercises, but done through the poses and port de bras. The object is not to be raw, but finished. A choreographed ballet might be raw, but not training. If they were raw, they would be out of position, and could be injured. In some kinds of dance the dancers stamp, but in ballet the dancers pick their feet up, away from the floor so that toes are not injured. Jumps land in plie. Every year poses become more subtle, and transitions become smoother with more and more emotion.
They are probably nervous in their examinations. Otherwise, the other ballet schools usually face front and never learn all the nuances of style of "artistic value." To be cloned, you would have to stand straight like a stick; notice some ballet companies only feature performers in their turns, never all these poses. A pose is the way that classical line (which is emotionless) and emotional expression come together; you can't express yourself through movement if you've never done the moves.
I do not know about the Vaganova academy, but if you look at the requirements of other ballet academies, such as the Opera de Paris, they all have very strict weight/height requirements, even for very young children. This way they ensure the students will all look the same, and be able to take the intensive training.
wow! i wish i looked like that...or, my whole class, because that is the beauty of watching a Vaganova class: as a whole, they are so together and identical, but observed separately, each girl has her own special talent!
Their arabesques are so pretty! If only I could have one like theirs =\

6th grade = 15-16 years old; 1st grade is 10-11 years old, which is what is called 6th grade in America.
erlitzki 4 years ago
actually 11-12 years old is 6th grade in america. so 1st grade by ballet standards would probally be closer to 5th grade in america. =)
