  • i thought this was just an icp song

  • From 1968.

  • This wasn't a 1969 pilot. The 2nd one in color also hosted by Ludden was in January 1969, but this is from a month earlier in December 1968.

  • Comment removed

  • nice seeing Allen do a Tom Jones kinda dance at the end of the clip

  • This is a fascinating pilot, but I should note it was actually taped on December 8, 1968.

  • It was 3 years before it was sold to CBS, I believe the 1971 pilot was sold to CBS

  • wish they put this on GSN

  • I assure you that this would NOT have been taped in B&W in 1969. The color is either lost due to the tracking problems or it was duped on to one of the home video formats of the era, such as Sony's CV series, which were only B&W.

  • @Frankcoins - Neither one...I believe it was a kinescope, as film artifacts occasionally popped up in the picture.

  • Even after 40 years, as well as 28 years after his death, Allen Ludden will always be associated with Password. In fact, he's "Mr. Password.".

  • Joker's Wild was not an unsold pilot. It was sold to CBS three years later and premiered on the same day as The Price Is Right.

  • Ah but this 1969 pilot was indeed unsold. The 1971 pilot was the one that was sold to CBS in 1972.

  • @nicka727 but THIS one wasn't

  • Pretty neat!

Now if someone could put the complete 2nd pilot!

  • Wasn't there another pilot with Jack Barry in 1971?

  • A very small clip of it was shown on the CBS at 75 celebration.

  • @Hondo20132 That was actually a clip from a 1974 celebrity week.

  • You know, the only sign of any color in this entire video is that little yellow videotape line on the left.

  • That means this was color videotape, but recorded with b/w.

  • So this was shot in black and white.

  • Yes, on color videotape. Dosnt make sense, Jack Barry, wasting money for more expensive color tape.

  • It makes just about as much sense as the way Hit Man was preserved, but never can be shown.

  • I don't understand -- how was Hit Man preserved but can never be shown?

  • The stories they showed were only to license once.

  • And getting permission to show them in perpetuity at this date would probably be a LOT more trouble that it would be worth. A shame -- especially since Peter Tomarken was the host -- and he was always enjoyable to watch.

  • wonder why?

I thought by the late 60's most B&W was gone.

  • Allen didn't fit in with the Joker's Wild format. He was MUCH better on Password.

  • Was this recorded on kinescope or videotape?

  • Allen Ludden hosting The Joker's Wild? I don't remember this.

  • It was an unsold pilot

  • What an interesting start for The Joker's Wild. Having celebrities give the questions pretty much leaves the host to just explain the rules and introduce situations. The celebrities giving the question might not be a good idea since they are not really part of the game in that sense but I guess Jack Barry wanted to cash in on the success of celebrity game show craze at the time. I don't like it so far but it's a work in progress.

  • "Granny" was on TJW? WTF?

  • Kinda Match Game like feel, right?

  • There was also another pilot that was in color. Philofiansworth used to have it, but he removed it, among other videos. A shame, because he also had a much earlier open to "The $10,000 Pyramid".

  • Wasnt his account removed? I cant find that account anymore.

  • Does anyone else have the color pilot?
