@hello9949, I understand, and respect your opinion, but these cars save lives, Almost every department in the United Stated uses american police cars. I favor the Impala, Crown vics, and Chevy Caprices, Their large powerful vehicles and they get the officers to where they need to be quickly. I didnt mean to be rude up there, but most departments use the same cars that you are calling ''pieces of shit'' I like them all. But I wish they would keep using Diplomats, and Monacos.

I lived in NYC for years, usually they only use sirens at crossstreets ; and when they depart from a parked position to get into trafic. I think they don't use them all the time because from a pedestrian point of view you wouldn't know where they are coming from as noise tend to reflect on tall buildings. For the lights, usually they put them on when going to a call. And when there is no emergency to go around other cars, change direction...they also use short bursts of sirens too.

@agent4051 I think it's because of NY state regulations. Red is scientifically the worst colour to use and I personally think that red is a bad colour to use anyway. One of the reasons being that it is harder to distinguish an emergency vehicle in heavy traffic if it has red lights.

In taiwan the cops use Nisans, Toyotas, Mitubishi's. I confirmed those models cause I live in a small town and when I go out I pass by that police station nearly everytime and I noted something. They liked their new BMW 5 series so much they put new sirens on it how cool is that?

The way I see it, you pull over (or at least try, sometimes traffic doesn't allow you to do so) for every police vehicle that needs to get by. That includes police buses. They may not be very fast, but they have a call to get to.Ok, lights alone may not be the best choice, but then, you need to be on the look out for them. You also need to have good ears (if you have them). Some cops have few lights, so you must rely on the siren. (Why things are this way, I don't know, but those unmarked, blah!
