An officer is often compelled to hold their emotions in check in the most intense and challenging scenarios. The fleeing father cried upon being apprehended? You and the officer treated him "good" and showed the man, a felon, respect? If you hadn't treated him "good" or shown him respect, you are not doing your job.

Although policies are in place regarding non-lethal tools, often it will come down to how an officer perceives the need to control the suspect. Training and experience enable an officer to quickly decide on the tactic without an extended delay. On your next ride-along, ask the officer how they decide to reach for which tool on their belt. Stay safe.

MOORESTOWN / NJ (CBS 3) Apr 23, 2008 ― More charges have been filed against Moorestown Officer Robert Melia Jr., 38, a Burlington County police officer who was recently charged with sexually assaulting three girls with his former girlfriend, Heather Lewis in his Pemberton home from 2003 until 2006. Melia Jr., 38, also has been charged with four counts of animal cruelty after repeatedly engaging in sex acts with cows between June and December of 2006.
NEW YORK (CNN)12.14.08/Dane WI/ Brittany Zimmerman, a 21-year-old college student who wanted to be a doctor, called 911. The 911 tape captured screams, gasps and what sounds like a struggle, as she was being attacked by a stranger, but the police did not come for 48 minutes. By that time, Zimmerman was dead. Her fiance found her body. Zimmerman had been stabbed multiple times in her chest near her heart, and she'd also been beaten and strangled. Police are still looking for her killer.

An officer is often compelled to hold their emotions in check in the most intense and challenging scenarios. The fleeing father cried upon being apprehended? You and the officer treated him "good" and showed the man, a felon, respect? If you hadn't treated him "good" or shown him respect, you are not doing your job.
