  • this song reminds me of David Bowie

  • godammit why couldn't they wait til they finished the album to break up? we waited 4 years and they quit a few metres from the finish line? and i don't buy the "moving in different directions" crap. silverchair was always the daniel johns show. they're tellin me chris and ben were into the direction of 'if you keep losing sleep' 4 years ago? gimme a break. why couldnt they just finish this last album as a parting gift to the fans?

  • So this is why they broke up? Seems like a good decision to me. Not that I think that the music is ultimately that bad (it's quite good) but seriously, this ain't silverchair anymore and they knew it.

  • Holy shit......what happens with Silverchair?aaaarrrrrrrrgh....

  • Funky Daniel *morning hard on* :P

  • when they went to freak show to neon ballroom tht was evolution, they changed their sound but maintain quality, but after diorama they completely lost their identity

  • @hugofernanades don't you think silverchair are the ones to decide what their identity is to be? Were in no place to tell Daniel what he should be writing...just saying. YM was a hard pill to swallow to some old fans but they have gained a bigger audience now just the same. :)

  • having said all that....im not totally feeling this song. lol. however, i fully believe the new album will blow my mind in all sorts of ways. cannot wait to get the new album the day it comes out...take it home...light up a bowl of the best weed i can find...and let my consciousness absorb into a new universe of sound.

  • They're like alanis morissette, they just don't care about selling out anymore, they just make music, true artists

  • man, Chris's bass playing is sounding DELICIOUS! A funkier Silverchair! Fantastic!

  • This is so much more severe than just a band "evolving" musically from album to album.... It's like going from Kurt Cobain to George Michael - I'm sorry but they should change the band's name because this is NOT Silverchair!

  • musicians who make music for other people aren't real musicians. they're doing what feels right and if you don't like it, i doubt they care.

  • I think sometimes the point is lost on people. Silverchair are about progression, they're one of the only bands from the 90's who didn't play it safe, and have a great art/pop balance.

  • hmm... definitely Dan listened too much the Knife....

  • I have to say- This is the best bassline I've ever heard from Chris, and a good idea of where this song is going. Look at how awful the songs for Young Modern first seemed when they debuted in their demo stages- they turned out amazing on the album, and this blows all the young modern demos out of the water- so hopefully this will be amazing on the record once they have the opportunity to tweak!

  • Though I must admit, I miss hearing Daniel's real voice.

  • nice how you guys are judging the entire new album based on some shitty user videos with awful audio...GREAT JOB!!!

  • when daniel shits in a bucket und labeled it silverchair their are idiots that will say: its the best he has ever done. pretty sad to see what johnes has come...a drunken, babbling with a brain full of acid!

  • lol maybe its just a joke

You can turn your back on a person, but never turn your back on a drug

  • what a shame!

  • their new stuff is a different kind of music... and i think its amazing, definetly better then their first few albums.

  • still not heavy enough, i want the old silverchair back.

  • Daniel Johns is a faggot

  • @Rush171010 wow man, did you giggle like a little school kid writing that? cause thats about as fucking mature as it was.Is he coming onto you? is he pushing his sexual views on you, nah you giant fuckin douche he is offering his music to the masses to entertaine people while immature little fucks like you to see fit to go around all grown up like calling people faggots oh an not that it matters but the dude happens to be banging a fuckin hot super model so much for your "faggot" comment.

  • oh no,....

  • So SHi**y ! it's a grunge revival time now ,... and it goes in the Late 80's !!!

  • Despite my comments above, I still love Daniel Johns and Silverchair. We are all lucky that they're still around.

  • @TheBurningwaco Why would he write sad music? He's dating a supermodel.

  • Everytime a new Silverchair album comes out, people bitch about it and revert back to saying "oh they should've stayed with the last one". When this new album drops, people will start saying, "they should've kept their Young Modern sound". I mean if you don't like, don't listen to it. Don't get mad because an artist wants to change.

  • I am now convinced that when the when on hiatus in 2003, the real Silverchair was kidnapped by aliens and these 3 look alikes were put in their places.

  • I'm glad the silver fan don't like this... i like it tho

  • I wish they would revert to angry teenagers again.

  • I hate to make it sound like a broken record around here, but Diorama does seem to be the height of Silverchair. I had to force myself to like most of Young Modern and at that, I still just can't get into 1/4 of that album. I've got my fingers crossed that these two new songs the two songs I won't like on the album but I've got a bad feeling that's not the case, considering a band doesn't choose to play their two "worst" newest songs live. *sigh*

I expect to hear a vocoder from Ke$ha, not Dan.

  • Songs are good! Silverchair changing their style each Album attracts new fans to each Album! I have enjoyed every Album they have released! And we must remember these songs are live! They never play songs like the way they are recorded! they shake things up a bit for their own enjoyment! Cant wait for the album!

  • That is it for me . been a fan of silverchair since the begining, but i have run out of hope. THE VOICE we all love is gone, and if this is the new direction there new album is going, i will not buy it. gave young modern a chance but is now collecting dust.

  • They need to be thankful to the fans that got them where they are. And that was through music like on Neon Ballroom. The only way to do that is to grow and make more bad ass songs while still keeping the same sound. I'm sure if they were broke and playing to 100 people they would be ready to write stuff that people like more. That or they would have to get real jobs. I like all there stuff. Just tired of being dissappointed by all my favorite bands. This is not why I started listening to u

  • FlawedCoil82 you are a moron. silverchair have no interest in popularity nor longevity and would happily produce music that no one ever hears. luckily enough for us fans they are happy to share there latest creativeness with us. have fun being a critic sitting back never trying to create anything artistic for yourself but taking shots at others that put the effort in to bring something different to the aus music scene.

  • This is pure and Utter rubbish... Hang your head in shame Silverchair... your testicles a re-ascended back into your bodies..

  • Also, look up the meaning of "fickle". I've been loving/supporting the exact same styles of music since 1994. That is not "fickle", that is "loyal". I don't pretend to like one style just to abandon it when the trend changes & it's no longer "cool". Silverchair has done just that. They no longer make the music that made them famous in the first place, so they need to stop deceiving people by making them think they are still going to get the same top quality 'chair music that they used to make.

  • it's a sad attempt at "modern coldplay" slash "modern funk" music. and i stress: sad.

  • I enjoy the new songs. And the old ones. I don't give a shit.

  • This band isn't silverchair. If Daniel wants to play this music, itd be best for him to form another band with a new name, leaving silverchair to play more rockier, alternative tunes. I for sure have left the "silverchair" building way down at Neon Ballroom. Sorry to write but Daniel has totally lost the plot and been warped with a massive fame bug. Come back down to earth mate.

  • I would suggest the fickle fans are the ones who go off them because they make one album they don't like. I appreciate the fact silverchair always do something different and I've been a fan since I was 15, also Young Modern was rude as fuck and received the best reviews out of all of them so I have no reason to doubt them.

    All hail the Silverchair!

  • Como é possivel isso ser o Silverchair ? Uma das bandas que era comparada a Nirvana com seus rifs de guitarras Não da pra acreditar !!!!

  • The more I listen to newer Silverchair, the more I cant believe ANY of their longtime fans are accepting this blasphemy. Its an insult to even compare it with their first four amazing albums.. It's unbelievable that any true Silverchair fan could find value in this trash. If you listen carefully at 34 seconds in, you can even hear the agonizing scream of another former fan ripping off his own ears after trying to comprehend how this once incredible band could mutate into such utter garbage.

  • Silverchair needs to be thankful they have the world's most fickle music fans. Any other band who changed this much would instantly commit career suicide. Their new style is absolutely horrible. It's heartbreaking to hear how far they have fallen. I can only find peace in my mind by pretending the band died after DIORAMA and these imposters stole their name. Stop praising this crap and listen to The Panic Division, a band who REALLY knows how to work electronics into their rock music.

  • @FlawedCoil82 you contradicted yourself, a fickle fan would be one who is "picky". There is a reason they are the best band to EVER come out of Austrailia. I happen to like this song and direction this band is heading in. You are just one of the metal heads that thrived on the depressing music in their first two cd's. You can only beat a horse so much before you fail. Search Chevelle to learn more on that subject. There inability to write a hook was there biggest feat. Keep groovin Silverchair!

  • @lukobravo I am far from a metalhead. Again, listen to The Panic Division. They can do electronica style music but without sacrificing guitars. How did you even become a fan of Silverchair? Tell me one thing (besides their names) that has ANYTHING in common with what they used to do. This is NOT Silverchair. Their first three brilliant albums did not even begin to hint at the utter horror that they are now. When Daniel trades his guitar for an accordian, I'm sure you will still praise that to.

  • @FlawedCoil82 I just listened to 3 songs by The Panic Division and i see no simularities. The part i like most about Silverchair is the fact after Freak Show there sond changed with ever CD. Like i said before why keep things the same? Change is not killing their fan base or cd sales.

My favorite CD is Diorama and to be honest i feel now Frog Stomp and Freak Show fall far short of all the rest.

  • @lukobravo best band Ever to come out of aus was INXS micheal hutchins days.

  • @bnash69 Hey bud INXS was a very good band for the short peroid they were around. But Silverchair is the most successful band to come out of Aus.

  • @lukobravo sorry dude... the 'short' time INXS were around? they were a band for twenty years before MH died, and like it or not, continued for another 5 or so years with JD Fortune.. and they're still making music today (most recently with Ben Harper).

    Just saying.

  • @FlawedCoil82

100% Agree - I'm sure their sales in the US have been in steady decline after freakshow and frogstomp...

  • Without Chris' bass, I think this song would sound like a cheap music. I'd prefer their complicated and rich music like in Diorama and Neon Ballroom.

  • @79itsjustme Agreed the Bass line makes the song, but its nice to see that in this band. Not many bass driven songs by them.

  • @79itsjustme Dude thats like going onto any clip an saying, oh without that guitar part that songs cheap, or without the drum fills that song wouldn't be as good. Of course not its the sum or the parts that make music.

  • @79itsjustme

being complicated doesn't automatically make it rich. that's actually a rather arrogant thought in my opinion. look at the beatles, there's a lot of rich, even complex music there, that is paradoxically simple.

i agree with you on thing: i prefer the stuff on diorama (and young modern) to this..

  • @rsinatra The Beatles had more dynamic tunes with more key shitfs, not monotone.

  • Comment removed

  • @rsinatra

He said complicated AND rich. Please read properly.

  • @KianLowes

maybe you're reading too much into it, i don't think meant them as completely separate, independent adjectives. either way, i've said my opinion and i'm free to do so, thanks.

  • A bit sad to see the end of their grungy rock style, but I don't mind a bit of funk. Just guess they're in a new space now.

Sounds like a fun song though.

  • Man what happend to silverchair they changed and not in a good way. Daniel hardly even touches the guitar in this song thing are looking really bad this new albums going to suck monkey dick big time

  • @LiamHuxley no guitar = bad?

  • @DiabloDave363 yes No Guitar = one bad silverchair album with neon Ballroom being the last good album

  • @LiamHuxley Though Neon Ballroom was good, Diorama and straight lines blew it out of the water.

  • The new album will be great, because Silverchair is great. I would personaly be disapointed if they ever came out with an album that sounded at all like an album they've already done. Silverchair evolves, its always good, but some albums we will no doubt like better than others. I guess if you want a band that never ever changes, grab some AC/DC.

  • @dedskinny True, if they didn't evolve they'd be nickelback. But being a musician myself for 10 years and silverchair being a huge influence on me when i first started i wish they would at least have stayed with a heavy sound. Bluntly they're just too poppy now.

  • @xXxPhilia I miss some of the grunge tunes myself but I love that this band is branching out and trying new things. More than I can say for a number of bands out there. It's too easy to stay in your niche ya know? I think it's great that they broke out of their comfort zone, who knows, they might end up drastically changing their style again to a heavier sound still.

  • Dan is always a genius with moving the band in new directions -- he's writing such fresh music and this new one really proves that. I can't wait for the new album!

  • If there was some heavy guitar in this like old school silverchair it wouldnt be so bad... But man do they suck these days

  • it's like nick cave meets prince meets nin. nice.

  • I guess it's a good song in it's own right - it'd be considered a master piece for an emerging band, but not silverchair - it's a waste of talent. I didn't like it when Silverchair started to change their sound. But now Daniel Johns has lost his voice - and that's what made his songs sound so good!!

  • I'm not too sure how I feel about it... need to listen to it a few time I guess. YM was entirely overproduced in the studios. Way too many effects and just weird things going on in the background. This seems like a very small step back in the right direction, but I worry that the studio version of it will be overproduced (with referee whistles, synthesized harpsichords, birds chirping, fog horns blowing, Dan farting, and other weird things not actually produced by guitar/bass/drums)

  • @sirnathan YM had a fantastic sound and theme going for it.. but the problem was it was too compressed. not one instrument "stood out", so in the end, it felt like a really flat album. the b-side singles were better than the album itself.

  • hmm, interesting i guess. i liked good ol' silverchair, and i view them as almost a different band these days, but it's still alright

  • wow love the new chair sound - awesome

  • I've grew up listening to this band, Wasn't a fan of straight lines....But after hearing this song at Bass in the grass by another one of their truely amazing preformances...I must say, I love this song. They've still got it, regarless of what people say, see them live and you'll know exactly what im talking about.

  • whats with the *few* negative comments? this song owns!

  • What happened to silverchair?, I loved this band right from the start, they inspired me to pick up the guitar and write music and in my eyes the best band ever right up until that loud of crap they recorded for young modern and this sounds just as crap too, very disappointed. I really hoped they would get back to their roots.

  • for some reason this reminds me of Prince with a rocker edge. I'm lovin it though.

  • for some reason this performance reminds me of Prince with a rocker edge. I'm lovin it though.

  • alot of bad reviews below....

i liked this song! i watched em in bunbury - i think this and machina collecta r both really groovy...

no it doesnt sound like frogstomp but that was ah...15 yrs ago? lol.

  • Hmmm. At least its a bit rockier and pscyadelic than the chamber pop that was young modern :/

  • Crap!

  • Also what's the deal with all those Vocal effects on his voice?! Totally unnecessary, hiw voice is so amazing. Paul Mac's influenece no doubt, argh! I wiah that guiy would just stick to making his crappy little tech based synth crap and let Silverchair go back to their rock roots!

  • I hope there are some heavy distorted guitar tracks and some nice accoustic ballads on the new album not too much of a fan of this kind of techo based stuff, I personally think the band was better before Paul Mac came along, but anyhow guess we'll have to wait and see...

  • i am more worried it wont go to number 1 than they are. its getting to the point they are going to sink into obscurity... but maybe a fast fall out of the top 100 will pull his head back in.

i hope the next album after this teckie shit is going to be guitar driven.. and yes i recognise alot of your names from the chairpage forums, and no doubt i've seen many of you at the concerts because i always saw the same people there..

ill stop looking at these till the cd comes out otherwise i'll cry

  • @anecsey actually im 20. and the only titties i been suckin on lately have YOUR mamas.

im a big fan of tool, pantera and soundgarden. i may not have been at their first ever concerts but i dont see what that has to do with anything.

also art by definition is anything creative and expressive. if u dont like it thats fine just stop wingeing like a fucking pussy. nobody cares.

maynard would be very disappointed in you...

  • why?!? i have been Silverchair fans since frogstomp..! where's the grunge?!? i love the first album up to diorama..! the only song i love in album young modern is straight lines..!!! Dan wake up and create a better song!!!Please..!!!

  • @anecsey shutup u fuckin douchebag... its a GOOD THING when bands try somethng new. have some respect for the art of music

  • cant wait for this album in 320kbs !!!!!

  • watch the full hd one and closer to daniel on my channel!

  • loving this, cant wait to see 'em on saturday. thanks for posting

  • Is this song basically about the band being together for about 16 years?

  • I really like this song but Machina Collecta just sounds too.. chaotic?

  • what the **** . Silverchair is my all time favorite band......i can respect that they are taking their music in a new direction but a smart business man or AR would realize if they want to sell music in america they need to deliver to their fan base that has been with them since Frog Stomp. I wish they would head in a creative direction that they did for Diorama......that in my opinion was a master piece. This is pop and im disappointed. i guess i will have to see if it grows on me. Disappointed

  • @BURTFURT123 wat makes you think they want to deliver to america?

  • @BURTFURT123 The whole point of creativity is to move in new directions. What would be the point of re-treading old steps. I also share your fondness of the Frogstomp days, but I share more of a fondness for pushing new areas artistically.

  • @BURTFURT123 What's disappointing for me is that Ben and Chris have some awesome bass riffs and drum beats in these new songs but Daniel hardly plays guitar. We all know he could make some awesome riffs/unique chord progressions (not necessarily rock riffs ex: paint pastel princess) but it just sounds like all effects....like a freaking hip hop/techno song.

  • i feel like I need to take some acid or xtc to get intot this. or maybe thats what he was on when they made this album

  • Good song. It's kinda fun the way they've changed their music stile. This seems way different from young modern, aswell as any of their earlier songs. At this moment it's probably impossible to put them in any genre of music, but I'm happy that they're doing what makes them happy.

  • NOssaaa!!!

    Kd o silverchair???

    OMG

  • Totally can do without the autotune crap...other than that, I think the song is groovy.

  • really liking this song

  • what a waste of some of the best talent in Australia - i think ill have to find a new favorite band....

  • @noco2492 Check out a new band from USA called 'It's Alive' on myspace. They remind me of old school Silverchair before they lost their heaviness. The song 'Liar' rivals Silverchair's Tomorrow IMO.

  • Hey Nay sayers living in the past... BYE!

If this is a taste of what the new stuff is going to be like... It's genius... I hope Silverchair keep pushing the envelope. LOVE IT!!!!!!

  • Jesus christ....this band is sooo over...a pity, they were really good

  • loving this track!

  • i love frogstomp, i love freakshow, i love neon ballroom and i also love diorama, all of these albums are true silverchair, i believe ym and this are experimental. young modern was good but this seems abit to far, i kinda like it but i will never believe that this shit would be exciting to see at a gig. its boring.

  • @rickanthonydriver

it's also not done yet. this is what the songs usually sound like at demo stage. and if you ask me, i'd love to be there drinking and listening to this.

  • this is rad!!!! its very cool... wasnt expecting it, but cool...

  • i love this, loved it instantly. i can't decide what it reminds me of but it's groovy. dan's on fiya.

  • if you keep whining about the new stuff from Dan's music.. then you'll never go forward mate.. They're music always improvised and its always gonna be that way .. which is bloody genius, just like The Beatles.. if you don't like it.. then don't listen to it.. and stop whining.. Respect the art..

  • The bass on this is rude!

  • it actually sounds a lot darker than there other stuff... not crazy about the vocal effects but i know there still working out the kinks to the songs, other than that i love it-- very different

  • Robot voices??? What the HELL is happening? Silverchair is over...it's so sad....

  • @lucas0908 Wow, someone's keen on revealing they have absolutely no musical taste... ah whatever just go listen the old shtuff if you can't appreciate this.

  • Thank you for posting that! ♥_♥

  • bad fucking asssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thank you so much for uploading!

  • Bastard! I was gonna upload my ones, I was right infront of Daniel :P

  • @thechaircover do it

  • @thechaircover the more the merrier! upload them!

  • Oh looord have mercy...this band is tighter than ever!!!!!!! The bass line is slammin, the vocals are amazing (love the effects) and the sexual vibe...well...lord have mercy!

    THANK YOU!
