Believe or not, we never saw the bass drum and Porky's signoff line when the cartoons were first broadcast on TV in the 50s. Castle Films owned the cartoons then, and its insignia was what we saw at the end of the cartoons (even though we heard Porky's voice). It was until the advent of VHS that my generation ever saw the bass-drum ending.

I forgot to mentioned that this one was also one of my nightmares growing up as a kid. It goes right with the "S From Hell" and the "V of Doom". I remember back when I had a dream when I was watching some weird cartoon on TV, but at the end, it has Porky out of the drum and then I was shocked. The music doesn't help at all. This has got to be one of my childhood's biggest nightmares in my life. One of the most scariest endings ever in every WB cartoon.

...although there is one show on today that i will stand by time and time again, it's called "phineas and ferb'. its about two brothers, who, during their summer break, do something amazing and epic every day. it happens to be extremely well done and beyond clever. so for the record there is a silver lining on the storm cloud :)

I remember seeing this since I was a kid when it was on WNEW-TV (channel 5) back in the 70's and 80's where they used to carried the WB shorts. I also remember seeing it on WWOR-TV (channel 9) back around 1989 or so when it was used during the closing of "Bugs, Porky and Friends" and "Bugs, Daffy & Friends" where they had that same ending shown on a border and then zoomed back where they showed the title.

The same ending that WWOR-TV used during that outro had "Produced by Warner Bros. Cartoons Inc." on the bottom, that was during 1944.

I forgot to say that this ending can also be found on numerous Public Domain VHS tapes that has the scratchy film print version of the ending, but it is not in the best of shape, except when it was a 16mm film prints of every cartoon, great to see it restored version of the ending. Nothing beats the scratchy print version on any PD tapes than this.

Yeah maybe because when the cartoon was produced, it was intended to be displayed in 4:3. If you "stretch" it to fit 16:9, the image will be distorted. I would rather there be borders around it.
