For me, the most understated brilliance on Cloris' part in this movie is the range of expressions when she tries to get the new baron a nightcap - the "Ovaltine!" scene.
Everydangtime I see this, I can't stop laughing. Another great Frau scene: She asks Dr. Frankenstein if wants something to drink before he goes to bed.... "OVALTINE!" Cracks me so thoroughly up. :D
@monkeysoulpoet This was not an anachronism. Anachronism is including something that is from a different time period than the setting. This film does include many hysterical instances of anachronism, but this is not one of them. This would be more accurately described as a humorous contextual juxtaposition.
@TheDavidG54 Well, I still say it serves as an anachronism, because it probably wouldn't have been used at the time of the original movie (which, admittedly, was kind of sketchily determined).
So long ago now but I seem to remember my wife and I our best friends nearly choking to death with laughter in a drive in when Chloris Leachman shouted out the boyfriend line. Mind your, it was accumulative because we were all nearly in tears by that time anyway. Just mention Gene Wilder fiddling with the big dead hand and my oldest friend still bursts out laughing.
Cloris Leachman is hilarious. She was on dancing with the stars, at age 82! You can see more of her surprisingly agile dancing on the 2009 Game show awards.

@ITZ4ever However, as they're walking up the stairs, the camera catches them in a way that they do kind of look lit.

For some reason I never expect her to say "boyfriend". lol. It gets me every time.

@33rosyposy That's why it's so funny. "Boyfriend" seems so anachronistic.

Cloris Leachman=absolute mastery. Even the way she holds and "plays" the violin looks absolutely genuine.

She should've won her second Oscar for this scene alone. One of the best ever comedic moments.
