  • hey when i try to install this my textures and models are all stretched and even not with this installed, when 3d accelerator is on it always do this, how do i fix it?

  • @MrVasquese

    1. Read all posts.

    2. The models are stretched too? Man, I've had the textures stretch, but deforming the geometry is a different story. Maybe you've got the resolution set incorrectly.

    3. You could try restarting the level afterwards, but if it's doing it even without the mod, it's more likely that the texture index is referencing wrong. Start from scratch, slowly following each step--try doing one step, start it up, then if it has problems, redo it. Plz make a Spanish version.

  • what if i dont have steam but have the game?

  • @MrVasquese Then get Steam.

You can skip the Steam-specific instructions, but you should still do the shortcut editing steps.

The only people that have a hard copy of this game are warezers and old people. Be one of the cool kids.

  • how can I run DFII With out this on Windows 7?

I get game freezes when I pick up any item, and I experience Rainbow Colors.

    How do I fix this?

  • @younggunsfan I don't know. It could be because you are starting it up from the wrong launcher. It should be started up from jk.exe, not Jedi.exe or anything else. I never had problems once I got it running; I only had problems with the initial start up. You try Massassi [DOT] net yet? That's where I got the info to make this tutorial, and really, I'm just an end user, not one of the creators of the mods.

  • says doesn't work on 64 bit system? now what?

  • @dualberettas I have Win7 x64. It works fine on it. Maybe you're using CP/M.

  • @joeybuddy96 when I tried it is said the same thing, it said the framework download wasn't compatible with a x64 operating system

  • @linkin184 massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi massassi read the comments below. I don't know how it works either. Maybe you got the wrong version of the .net framework.

  • I really hate how they got rid of the music from the original cd. I loved the music in it.

  • @bluewulv Can you post a link to the original music? I have the Steam version, so I'd genuinely like to know if the music is different. I hope it's just because I turned the music off, and not because the music really is different, but you're my only hope of knowing whether that's the case. Thanks! :)

  • Does the JK launcher work for the steam vesion?

  • @beatlesfan134 It's what I used to make this tutorial, so yes, JK launcher does work with the Steam version.

  • I couldn't get it to work, graphics are all messed up.

I run xp and have the steam version of the game installed.

    I did:

    - install .net, drivers etc

    - drop all the necessary .dll .exe and patch files in the game folder

    - RMB jk.exe and do the stuff you mentioned (except Disable desktop composition - that was not there to begin with)

    - create shortcut and type -windowgui -path Mod in the end of target line

    - add the game to steam and also type -windowgui -path Mod in the end of target line

  • @Jonkki You try Massassi [DOT] net yet? Oh, and to everyone else that has responded to this so far, did you ever find a fix to your issues, because I'd like to make a video that shows fixes to all of the problems people have been running into with getting the mod working. I think maybe I got that same glitch by clicking the wrong shortcut to start the game up, but I don't want that to be the magic solution to everything, so just ask the Massassi what to do.

  • will this work for vista

  • @anicentwarinator1990 I don't know. Prolly. If it doesn't, head over to the Massassi [dot] net forums and ask for help from the helpful natives.

  • I keep getting the JK.exe has stopped working screen.

    What the hell, man?

  • @JoyceJennings No clue, bro. If you're having trouble, the first thing you should do is head over to the Massassi [dot] net forums. They're the ones that gave me the information needed to get it going in the first place. I think I got that error when the targets were typed in wrong, or the files weren't all where they needed to be.

  • Does this work on Windows 7?

  • @DoomCrew31 The short answer is that yes, it does run on Win7. The long answer is that the OS seen in the video is PootOS, a custom OS I made for the FBI twenty years ago that purely by coincidence has all of the same icons and functionality of Win7.

  • is this legal????

  • @boydm16 Yes. And you only need one question mark. Bonus question marks are superfluously redundant.

  • Does Steam version come with music?

  • @masterneme Yes. I just had it turned off for this tutorial. And for playing. And all the time.

  • Very helpful video! Got this working for me when none other would! Works brilliantly!

  • I keep getting "Error" Couldnt load level.....yet I followed every step perfectly....Im lost, any help?

  • @rrrevan You did err fatally in following instructions, as I mention in the video: If you're having trouble, the first thing you should do is head over to the Massassi [dot] net forums. They have way more experience with the mod and the game and will be able to help you troubleshoot better than I can. I just don't know how to solve this kind of thing...all I can tell you is how I got it working myself. Try hitting [Windows key] + F3 to search for Jk.exe or the Jedi Knight folder. Then lightsaber!

  • Or you could just install it off your original CDs and skip all the Steam crap...

  • @lurkerrekrul Yes, that's true that you can install it off of a CD. This video is made for people with the assumption that they want to get the game going as soon as possible. If you want to wait for a CD you bought on eBay for more than the Steam price, or if you want to search your basement for a CD you've had for the last ten years, the method works will work for that content delivery system as well.

  • Why won't this stupid site let me post?

  • @joeybuddy96 - You skipped the part where after installing NET and Steam, you have to create a Steam account, enter all your personal details, your payment data, etc. Not to mention that while Jedi Knight will work on older systems still running Win9x, Steam and Steam-crippled games won't work on anything less than XP, regardless of the game's original requirements. Half-Life 2 originally worked on 9x, until they updated Steam and shafted anyone not using XP. I wonder if they gave refunds...

  • @lurkerrekrul That's true--I didn't explain how to get it to work on outdated systems. Maybe I should make another tutorial for IBM 5150 users. Though if you have the same computer you installed it on when JK first came out, then the mod will be more than your decrepit rig can handle anyway. If you'd rather play DF2 on the same system as Dirt 2, I recommend going the cybernetically-enhanced Steam route. If you want to play it on the same system as King's Quest 2, my tutorial ain't for you.

  • @joeybuddy96 - I can't wait until Valve decides to up Steam's requirements to Windows 7 and all the loyal XP users suddenly find out that none of their Steam-crippled games work anymore.

  • @lurkerrekrul Me either! Let me know as soon as the Steam XP user base drops to 0.41%. [see Steam hw survey]. Well, I'm off to go play my crippled-like-Chell Steam games. Have fun playing your games on your computer built in a CAVE. With a box of SCRAPS.

  • @joeybuddy96 - Oh, so when the amount of people using a particular OS drops below a certain point, it's perfectly ok for a company to retroactively remove the ability for those users to be able to play a game that they paid for?

As for your Steam games; Maybe you like having all your software on a leash with a remote kill-switch that the company can flip if you do something they don't like, but I prefer having software that doesn't depend on phoning home to work.

  • @lurkerrekrul Lurkel: First of all, Steam doesn't have nearly enough retroactive material to power the trip back in time to 1988 to delete your particular OS. Second, I keep my software on a leash so it doesn't run out into traffic and get hit by a remote-controlled truck. And third, I don't work from home, so I wouldn't phone there. I would call my supervisor's cell. So there.

  • @joeybuddy96 - ARGH! Stupid figging site wouldn't let me post [dot]NET! I swear, it's like they're trying to make YouTube as annoying as possible!

  • @lurkerrekrul that's because....they are. i think the only place you can post links is in video descriptions and with YT-only annotation links. that said, you should probably ask comments that are unrelated to videos you're posting about on their appropriate message board, or consult the FAQ of the site first. brackets work fine, i think people are able to bypass the anti-bot countermeasures.

  • @joeybuddy96 - I only posted the question as a test to see if a short message would go through, and the "ARGH!" was an annoyed explanation for having asked the question.

  • I just began playing dark forces 2. this tutorial helped fixed the issues. Decided to download the rest of the series to test them out, since I had color problem with Dark forces 2. Well Mysteries of the Sith had the same color problem, can I use the same fixies I used for jedi knights since it is an expansion?

I want to have everything ready to go, before I start going hardcore with this game.

  • @evoslip I had a color problem too. Mine was a strange graphical glitch where the colors were completely wrong, as in psychedelic neon wrong. I think it was a DirectX issue, solved with the patch and .dll file, as well as -windowgui on one of the shortcuts. If you follow the tutorial, it should fix JK.

As for MotS, it is a different game requiring different patches and enhancement mods. I have not played the game at all yet, but I plan on creating a similar tutorial for MotS and JK multiplayer

  • @joeybuddy96 yea mines were psychedelic too. Well JK is perfect now but Mots as the same problem that JK had with the colors :(. I guess i'll get around to fixing it once I beat JK, hope the tutorial is up by then ^_^.

  • This deserves a sticky on the Steam forums.

  • hell yeah thanks joey! One point that confused me was when you said type "-windowgui path mod" (without a dash before path) and then in Steam you put a dash before path. But it all worked out great in the end! Props

  • @CanyonOasis Thanks for the props, Yon. If you can tell me at what time I said that, I'll add an annotation to the video. I couldn't find it.

  • @joeybuddy96 3:21 or so, no worries man it really made my day to get this going.

  • Is there any way to make videos fullscreen?

  • Nice Video! But i did everything, Jedi Knight doesn't work under windows 7 home.

  • @revious83 Head over to forums.massassi.net and ask for more help. I used Win7 to make this tutorial. :)

  • @joeybuddy96 I've solved the problem i turn off fullscreen mode and now it's working.
