  • There are some beautiful sounds coming out of that guitar

  • i appreciate ur humble words, they bring healing to those musicians out there, and me as a guitarist whos around other good guitarist who create rivalries or just play to compete and be the best instead of being themselves and being inspiring to others rather than shutting them down. thank you. God bless you

  • very cool and as always your music always inspires me.thanks Don

  • Pure bliss!!!

  • Beautiful!

  • @DonRossMusic One of the most humble men ive ever seen seeing that you post that when you are that good. Appreciate what you do, i play guitar and i hope to be half as good as you are someday. Your inspiration at its best!

  • thanks for looping the cr@p out of that song i really appreciate it

  • Sir, you play very well

  • I've changed my tuning just to learn this song. It's a real fun, when I play that. I was so absorbed, that hadn't returned to standard tuning, but created 3 compositions based on BF#C#F#BF#. Don, thank you for the idea!

  • 4:49 Should be a statue somewhere.

  • How the fuckshit does this song only have 368,833 views??!?

  • This is my favorite one.

  • What time signature is this in?

  • @MaxvonSchreiber It's in 4.

  • Damn.

  • Saw you play 20 years ago live and have never forgotten!!

  • One of my Favorites that you play Don Ross! Absolutley love your music!

  • 2011 Christmas' Fingerpicking Song! wordlwide agreed!

  • Don Ross is sexy. Coming from a straight man, I hope that means a lot to him.

  • high as balls right now...Don Ross <33

  • Don Ross could drink Zima at a college party and still get laid

  • @hammondB3ify you must be trolling to say this song song lacks emotion and is strictly a showing of technical skill. You basically said that this song sounds like scales turned into a song... duh? music is based off of scales and chords. also how exactly do you evaluate something like emotion in music? a song that makes me tear up isn't going to have the same effect on everybody. when i hear this song it puts me in a good mood so i would say it triggers an emotional response.

  • @DonRossMusic i just want to say thank you so much for sharing your awesome music with us. I am learning guitar and hearing your music really inspires me to keep practicing and get better. Michael, Michael, Michael i the first piece by you i heard and i was like whoa! this is awesome! (doesn't hurt that my name is Michael) haha but anyways i really enjoy your music and just wanted to say thanks!

  • Hi folks! Just feel like saying:

I don't consider myself a "guitar guy." I actually do other musical things, but solo guitar is very accessible and portable, so I tour that way. I've played a lot of concerts and written lots of tunes. I enjoy it. If you do too, welcome. If you enjoy using YouTube to insult people, you're a coward. I don't compete with other guitarists or other musicians. I'm just trying to do something new. I have no intention of being anyone other than who I am. Enjoy!

  • @DonRossMusic very well said sir

  • @DonRossMusic Don, you're a cool guy.

  • @DonRossMusic ur shit

  • @Bestios10 sorry that was my brother haha, love u man ur a great guitarist keep it up!!

  • Don

Many of us appreciate the good music you have put out for last 20+ years.

And all of it remains relivent. in fact, I still put on "the first ride" when I need inspiation.

    Art

  • @DonRossMusic Mr Ross, I've read such "negative" behavior you speak of in your comment. I've read some very horrible things posted on Ed Gerhard video for example- someone calling him a long hair faggot and such out of nowhere. I've notice, by following link to those type people on youtube that they have no videos of their own, or their videos are very debased. There are givers and takers in the world. Appreciate you or not, you are a giver of something edifying and not a taker.

  • @DonRossMusic: Hi Don Ross. Klimbim is nothing short of a piece of art, and your guitar playing is fantastic! You seem like a nice guy too! Keep up the good work!!

  • @DonRossMusic Don. Not only is your music ability something to aspire; your humility is in a league of its own. Thanks for sharing the many aspects of who you are.

    Kindest regards,

    Aubrey Zahnd

    Staten Island, NY

  • @DonRossMusic Hey Don! just feel like saying:

You are a guitar god! ;)

Love from the Faroe Islands ;)

  • @DonRossMusic Whatever you consider yourself Mr. Ross, I think your music is awesome, and I appreciate your talent, and that you take the time to share it. I listen to guys like you, Andy McKee & Jimmy Wahlsteen a lot when I just want to relax. Your music makes my days brighter, so thank you sir.

  • @DonRossMusic "I don't compete with other guitarists or other musicians" Too much of this nonsense nowadays. Your music is beautiful not heard one peice I have not liked. Michael, Michael, Michael is my fav such an awesome groove. I find it hard for to believe anyone has insulted you, Jealousy comes to mind. Keep on making such wonderful music!

  • @DonRossMusic what I will say is that you are an amazing musician...enlightenment for the ears and God bless you for that. Don't let youtube get to you, it obviously hasn't this far! I also want to know if you tour in America? Specifically Boulder, Co area? for what it matters you actually do inspire me to play guitar...electric but still. Thanks for your music!

  • @MrEljiah @DonRossMusic

That would be the greatest concert ever. Denver or Boulder, Don would be more than welcome.

  • Ok, time to try the decaf. I look forward to hearing / seeing your personal contributions to the world of art and beauty.

I guess your record player stopped working in 1977. Oh well. All the best.

Now! Back to all that glowing praise!!

    ;-)

  • @DonRossMusic there is always room to grow as a musician or you have made the awful transition from musician to monster

i love your work you are great now imagine what you could be in 20 years!

  • 2:30 -> epic face

  • @mrorigamilovers my face throughout the whole video was an epic face

  • he got a haircou so hat people would stop calling him hagrid

  • knowing this song is written, my passion for guitar came back ! :D

  • 0:00 You're welcome

  • 33 people have sneezed while they were pressing "I Like"

  • This song ACTUALLY changed my life. Not in some emotional, I found happiness way. But I heard it on a small radio station in Toronto, and found out what can be done with an acoustic guitar. I dropped the flat-pick and have not looked back since (and was even able to tell Don this at his yearly New Years show). I did not know what an acoustic guitar could do until hearing this song while in my car.... thank you Don.

  • clapton is good,....great by most measures. but compared to ross.... he cant compete..

  • @lilsahara450r this is acoustical masturbation. technically clean, but clapton wrote layla, played can't find my way home, etc. this is elevator music compared to songs like that. don't be so impressesed by technical skill. if you like this style, try john martyn. a songwriter and a great guitarist-the whole package.

  • @hammondB3ify Wow. This has perennially been one of my most favourite pieces among my fans, and one that gets requested almost every night. I really resent people referring to instrumental music as "masturbation" or denigrating music that requires technical skill. I wrote a catchy tune. Suck it up.

  • @DonRossMusic my response went to the person who said clapton couldn't compete. i'm amazed by your technical skill, but it sounds like scale exercises that turned into a tune. i'm sorry i didn't have an emotional response to it, and i could have used kinder words, but music is a language of emotion, yes it is simpleminded. without the emotion it is masturbation.or an exercise. songs like layla, you look wonderful tonight, etc. are great because of that emotionial impact.

  • @hammondB3ify You must be fun at parties.

  • @DonRossMusic you have all the skill you need to be evry bit as good as a clapton or john martyn or nick drakeand i wish i had a fraction of your talent, but it doesn't mean there's no merit to my criticism. there aren't many great ones left, and you could be one of the next- don't get comfortable from all the glowing praise you get. you are a guitar players' guitarist, if thats good enough for you-great. you wrote a catchy tune- how about a great one?

  • @hammondB3ify This is simply not a piece written for technique's sake...that's actually not something I do or enjoy. I've been playing the guitar for over 40 years. If I can actually play, I apologize. I admire the other musicians you mention, but the gist of your comment is simple minded.

  • @DonRossMusic it sounds very natural, like you've been playing for forty years. i did'n't criticize you out of envy, i'm making an honest observation. if you enjoy the music you make, you don't need my approval. and maybe this is just one tune out of your 40yrs, i don't know, if it doesn't move me-then i'm not going to lie to you. its a light mood, good for a soundtrack, and it does remind me of john martyn. but listen to a song like solid air, or any clapton, you hear the difference. try harder

  • @hammondB3ify lets hear you make a more emotional song than i will be happy see your side but until then let the professional be the professional and the talent-less critic be the talent-less critic

  • @clehmanj i'm not the one who compared him to clapton. take that up with lilsahara. i don't need to have talent to hear music. comparing clapton to ross is apples to oranges, the difference is the atmosphere. unless you think clapton has no talent. listen for yourself.

  • If we compare clapton as god, then ross would probably be buddha. both are deities on their own respective levels.

  • @coolalbert1990 Sorry but Clapton serves his purpose and does great things in a pop-rock setting. But as a guitarist? Nowhere near.

  • @grinryan5633 well put, i honestly think clapton would have to practice for years to play this song well. but he is good at what he does.

  • @grinryan5633 i said they were gods on their own respective level.........like how christians believe in jesus and buddists believe in buddha, you can't really compare them cause they both have different backgrounds and achievements. you can't deny clapton is a god in pop-rock, but you also can't deny ross is too.......it's not hard to understand, really.

  • your just amazing !!

  • i admire these type of people more than those who sing. i hate you

  • @JerkyKun Don IS a great singer. I first became a Don Ross fan because of his singing, not his guitar playing. I still play my Harbord Trio recordings. Sadly, Don is the only member still with us.

Nice "Do" Don. This is the first I've seen it.

  • 33 people enjoy listening to natalia kills

  • @decduff93 I enjoy this and natalia kills though :(... what does that make me?

  • yearrrrrr natalia kills!!!!

  • just one word to describe this song...peace

  • incredible.

  • while tuning my f.... guitar on this tuning one of my f.... strings broke.

    but great song!!!

why cant be that kind of song in standart tuning?!?

    damn cheaters...

  • @stuvis I'm just guessing here as I don't know for sure, but instead of tuning a high E string up to F, they probably use the high G string from a 12-string set and tune that to F instead.

Also guessing here as I'm not a professional in the least, but the weird tunings are usually to make the song playable without having to stretch the fingers to hit certain chord progressions or runs. For instance, in the "chorus" of the song, look at stretch his first and third fingers have to take as it is.

  • i think there is no words to explain the feeling of this song, is pure musical feeling, i just can say its a pleasure meet an artist like don ross.

  • I love it when you only illegally download pop music and purchase this music because this music is actually worth something

  • ;-)

  • I've listened to this every single day since I first watched it 6months ago and it really never gets old

  • Very nice... All that sound from 1 very talanted soul!!!

  • my uncles builds his guitars

  • @ginseng1550 Your uncle is marc beneteau, really? nice one...

  • @TomDodsonMusic Yeah man... He lives in St. Thomas.. i jam in his work shop every christmas

  • @ginseng1550 That is awesome :) I love his guitars! He was really helpful to me when I emailed him about baritone guitar bracing for a build I am planning :)

  • @TomDodsonMusic Yeah man.. he's a great guy.. he gave me a discount on my axe... he lowered it to only $2500 haha... he is absolutely amazing if you just wanna sit with a beer and talk about guitars for hours. I met Don here too... we had a great talk about his guitars. My uncle's guitar skills are actually about equal to Don haha

  • @ginseng1550 That is so good :D Haha i could talk about guitars for days, let alone hours! :P Thats pretty damn cool man :) I envy you! :P

  • @TomDodsonMusic Dude just go on his web site.. which is Beneteau Guitars and there is a section called guitar talks or something like that.. ask hi anything... although it's way more fun in person haha

  • @ginseng1550 I know man, i've read it :) Ahh I'd love to meet him in person sometime !

  • @TomDodsonMusic hahaha just do it man... go to his house and say wudup

  • toca d+ sou fã dele

  • We used to say "Clapton is God"...

But what's more Briliant on so many levels than this?

    thx Don.

(after 48 hours and 25 more views)

  • @abuafak I'm pretty sure we still say "Clapton is God."

Don is fantastic as well, don't compare musicians.

  • Ya gotta love the smile on his face at the end. There must be something very satisfying, knowing that "you are the freakin man!".

  • What can one say?

THAT is Mastery even more genius than it's composition

    Thank you.

  • This is by far, my all time favorite by Don Ross.

  • I don't like this

    ...

    I LOVE IT!

  • thanks to don ross for making this beutiful song

  • Wow! no doubt one of the greatest gifts I ever had the pleasure of hearing, I got choked up just hearing this session. Would love to see you in concert soon. Thank you for sharing your gifts and music with the world, its a better place becuase of you.

  • wow, I don't know why, but this song really makes you want to cry because of happiness :)

  • how is that even possible...

  • hey, i cover this song too :D take a look at my chanell

  • for the first time, i enjoyed this type of guitar playing.

    great play :D

  • The greatest thing about the music of Ross, McKee, et al, is that it is musically satisfying on many different levels:

The guitar virtuoso says, "Damn. I wish I had written that."

The beginning guitar student says, "Damn. I don't know if I could ever play that, but I would like to one day."

The kid who knows nothing about playing an instrument says, "Damn. This sounds really good."

What makes great music great is that it accommodates everyone

  • doesn't he play with andy mckee on some stuff?

  • @Keatons1026 Yes, they did an album together of arrangements of both of their music. It's really good!

  • @megalodonNL Actaully I've been a fan of Satriani long before I discovered Don Ross. Its just a completely different style of music like you said. It has nothing to do with not being in tune with the music or grooving with it, its completely apparent that Satriani and all the other virtuoso players have that, its just the way it comes out in expression. Anyways, I love Satriani and Don Ross, I was merely commenting on the difference in expression and how I enjoyed this...made me feel it too.

  • Watching Joe Satriani and other artists play, you always see them making quite hilarious faces while they rock hard, but Don Ross just sits there and grooves with the music, which is especially amazing, in my opinion. Keep this up, don't stop.

  • @pelcad

They groove with the music as well. You comment sounds like you don't like those other artists like Satriani. But I think he accomplished great things himself. It's just a totally different discipline.

  • I cried watching this.. I really did.

  • @LeiMouseio acid will do that

  • i feel sorry for the 33 people who disliked. they're probably very unhappy people

  • Dude, each song you play gives me goosebumps.

  • Sweet Jesus! I´m looking forwward to seeing you play in germany again! just love you maaan! Feelin Dank im Vorraus Don!!

  • France is the best countr in the world ;)

  • I LOVE YOU !

    From France

  • of techniques, but Don Ross took it to a whole new level for me. Sorry for multiline answer, but YouTube decided to post before I was done writing.
