Ignoring the color issues, which are player generated errors, This copy looks to be in very good condition. Given that a copy of 'Star Wars' was most likely played to death by a child who owned it in the 80's, this is a quite good example. The speed up is definitely noticeable to anyone who has seen this film more than a few times. Pretty cool man.
Your color issues are coming form your player. Most of the time this indicates that your turntable is losing speed... thus dropping the chroma carrier signal. When it's playing correctly, this looks as good as my laserdisc copy of the same film. My guess is that your players platter is belt-driven, not direct drive. The speed is not stable if the color drops out like it does. The good news is that you can improve on this quality with some simple maintenance.

I still have CED and Laserdisc player as well as beta.....amazing how formats keep changing.... Thanks for the comparison...

Interesting.
In 1993 my friend bought The Star Wars Definitive Collection CAV LaserDisc BoxSet.
He lent it to me and I was blown away by the movies and the quality Picture/Sound of LaserDisc. The were in WideScreen.
