Hi Duffman3, I understand where you are coming from with your view. But one of the things that happens when someone prays in tongues is that the language is coming directly from the Spirit if God within them Acts 2:4. The person praying does not need to think about what they are praying. They could be thinking about something completely different like sports but will usually be focused on prayerful thoughts. 1Cor 14:14: the mind is unfruitful - so it does no processing of ideas to speak.
@AudioDisciple If the person praying isn't thinking about what they're praying, why are they praying at all? If the mind does no processing of ideas to speak, why does it speak?
@duffman3 That's a good question. When a person begins praying in tongues the Spirit of God bubbles up these unknown syllables from the inner being (spirit) to the brain and then they are spoken out. When we are praying in our native language we can run out of words to pray and sometimes we cannot fully express what is on our heart or we can pray wrong prayers. When one allows the Holy Spirit to prays through them in tongues they are praying the perfect will of God. Have a look at Romans 8:26
@AudioDisciple You didn't really answer the question. If a person does not think about what they are praying, why are they praying? Not HOW, but WHY? What is the purpose?
Hello Duffman3: Hope all is well. I made a three part video response, thanks to you. Ha! Anyway, I hope you are able to view them. If I was not clear in my explanation, OR you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Take care Buddy.
salavation is not a soley a feeling, its a regeneration of the soul. meaning we are transformed in the mind. God will test our mind and search our hearts. if we say we are saved, yet we are not growing , changing the way we think, nor naturally obeying his truth,, then we are not saved. feeling the holy spirit in church then going home and going back to our old lives witout any conviction of our sins and thoughts, is a lie from the devil not salvation. Luke 8:4-15
@corinalj Doubting the testimony given by Sir Holy Spirit is the true lie from the devil.
Those who deny the true testimony of Sir Holy Spirit are dead to the truth. They know it is true, yet they suppress this knowledge in pride and unrighteousness. If they were to just have faith in the true testimony, and submit their prideful logic and reason to His Spiritiness, then they would bask in the flood of truth.
@duffman3 denying his truth and phrophecy is a lie from the devil. im not exactly sure what you are referring to? ppl whom hide behind scripture or ppl whom just dont agree with you?
we know then by thier friuits. if a man is living in sin without any conviction in his thoughts and is idolizing thing before God, he is prob. not saved.
understand something. most of these christian churches speaking in tongues , are not speaking spiritually. not everyone has the gift. its not understood by humans , that why there should be a translator. if yo udont have the gift or annointing you will never understand the gifts of the spirit
duffman3 -- If you have not received the gift of the Holy Spirit (( a supernatural phenomena), how do you expect to make a study on it?
Jesus told Nicodemus that he had to be born (gennao) again (anothen); that is, born from God. Nicodemus did not understand Jesus because he tried to understand it with human logic, instead of through the eyes of faith.
How can you explain eternity, if you are still bound to the earth in your carnal thoughts?
@ThePhnxman1 I know I received the holy spirit because when I accepted Jesus as my savior I became filled with it. And it spoke to me and said, "I am the Holy Spirit. Speaking in tongues is a load of bullshit."
It's true. And if that seems unreasonable to you, it's just because you want the manifestation of the Holy Spirit to submit to your own carnal logic. If you just ignore logic and reason, and have faith that my testimony is true, you will see that it is true. You see how this works?
@duffman3 -- "...the tongue is a small member...the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil..."
What you have failed to understand is that the Holy Spirit is what tames the tongue. If the Holy Spirit does not tame the tongue, the body cannot obey God's will. That is the reason why man can worship God "...in spirit and in truth." If you can receive this: "Man believes in his spirit, repents with his mind, and obeys with his body." (C.M. Villa)
@ThePhnxman1 Woah woah woah. Woah.........woah............woah.......wait a mintue.
So you're saying that the tongue.........is like a small penis? And then the holy spirit rapes the tongue penis and then has a holy penis tongue spirit baby? And then the tongue penis can't have any more fun because it has to work its ass off to pay child support, and then the holy spirit won't stop nagging the tongue penis about why they never really talk anymore?.... I'm getting a rape whistle.
@ThePhnxman1 Actually, the Holy Spirit just told me that it prefers to be referred to as Sir Holy Spirit.
Sir Holy Spirit also told me to tell you that you need to stop resisting the truth of my testimony. He says that you know what I say is true, but you're suppressing it in unrighteousness. So stop being unrighteous, suspend your carnal logic and believe what I say is true. Then you will know it's true.
@duffman3 -- You are judged by the words of your mouth.
"Get behind me, satan, for you desire not the things that be of God, but the things that be of man."
Now this: "If any man think he speaks by the Spirit of God, then his words must correspond to the words of the apostles and prophets whom the Lord Jesus has chosen, within the scriptures." (C?M? Villa)
I do not find your name in the scriptures: but I do find your testimony and your judgment in Genesis 3:14.
"They do blaspheme who say, God is one of three in a Trinity, for there is no god except One God. If they do not desist from their word (of blasphemy), verily a grievous penalty will befall the blasphemers among them."
"Behold, I say unto you that ye would be more miserable to dwell with a holy and just God, under a consciousness of your filthiness before him, than ye would to dwell with the damned souls in hell."
@duffman3 -- There is surely ONE God: he revealed himself to us in the Son.
So, are you a Branhamite? You seem to have the same vocabulary as the ones with whom I have had contact. Or is that the actual vocabulary of your holey spirit? Your doctrine appears to have holes in it.
@ThePhnxman1 Only those who have no faith and suppress the truth in unrighteousness will believe that Sir Holy Spirit's doctrine has holes in it. Why won't you believe? Can't you see that the holes you think you see in Sir Holy Spirit's doctrine are a product of your carnal logic? Satan has a hold of you.
Believe and have a strong faith in the true testimony of Sir Holy Spirit that I've shared with you, and deny Satan's false logic, and you will see that it is true. Repent!
@duffman3 -- Yes, I am denying satan's false doctrine that you are attempting to share in your testimony. I see that you are very obedient to your father, satan!
You might think that you are being funny, but your blindness does not let you see the foolishness of your jesting. But you are choosing whom you will serve: I will choose the Lord Jesus Christ.
@ThePhnxman1 You lecture me about blindness? Hypocrite! You have called the testimony of Sir Holy Spirit to be of Satan, and have thus committed the sin of blasphemy! Oh ye of little faith.
You deny the truth of this testimony. Even though you know it is true, you deny and suppress it in unrighteousness. If you would but have faith and submit your logic and reason to Sir Holy Spirit and invite Him into your heart, you would see the truth. Open your eyes!
I have found that people who have not received the Holy Spirit AND people who do not believe in the supernatural powers of God do not understand the things og God. Hmm-m. And those same people would want to hear other tongues expressed in the same manner as the English language is expressed...?
Oh, I see! They want the manifestaions of God in believers to submit to THEIR logic!
@ThePhnxman1 Aw man, you caught me. I'm so stupid, using logic instead of the holy spirit. I'm definitely going to hell. If only I could be as wise as you.
yeah i can't speak in tongues, but my father recieved the gift, he says he doesn't know how it happens, but what i've noticed it pretty much kinda flips on whenever he's in fervent prayer not that calm ordininary type my mother had it at one poitn and doubted where it came from and lost it..that alone proves to me that its something real and from god..i'm really close with my parents why would they be makign up strange syllables to say...
Prophecies, healing, and words of knowledge are gifts that are a bit more spectacular, and sometimes, harder to dismiss as psychological. Especially when people prophecy details or get words of knowledge about details about you, or if something is obviously healed.
The thing is, the speaker in tongues doesn't understand what he is saying without speaking in tongues. So we wouldn't expect the language to be reflecting the speaker's thought process.
@SaudaraLink If the speaker doesn't understand the language and the words don't reflect the thoughts of the speaker, what significance does speaking in tongues even have?
@duffman3 Speaking in tongues edifies the speaker. His spirit prays. If an interpretation is given, the congregation is built up/edified by the interpretation. I Corinthians 14 in the Bible talks about this. The other passage, where people do understand is in Acts 2.
@SaudaraLink I don't buy it. If a person doesn't produce the "language" nor comprehend what they're "saying," then the fact that they're making any sound at all is irrelevant. And if it truly does "edify" the speaker, then the edification must be coming from something other than the sounds they make with their mouth, again making the sounds themselves irrelevant.
@duffman3 But you don't make the rules. If you don't believe that someone has a spirit to edify, then it won't fit into your frame of reference anyway.
@SaudaraLink I'm not claiming that I make any rules. I'm simply pointing out that the sounds a person makes when "speaking in tongues" are irrelevant since the person cannot comprehend the sounds when producing them, nor when hearing them. It's like if you "scribble in tongues" on a piece of paper without knowing what you're writing nor being able to read it, the scribblings become irrelevant. Therefore, any edification must come from something other than the scribbles themselves.
funny coz I would predict that if you scan their brains with an FMRI.. I suspect certain parts of their brain would be shut down -- perhaps parts of the frontal cortex and other control centers. I don't remember though if brains scans had been before for this. Avid readers of brain research would not at all be surprised of such woo woo phenomena. The less educated though... unfortunately, common sense may turn out wrong much more frequently than expected.
I cant wait till u get filled with the holy spirit!!!..lol, but naw foreal tho, jus last year I felt the same way untill one day when I start a fast (where u dont eat and jus pray and read teh bible for something u need from the Lord) and I started to ask God about this tongue thing since my friend and others told me about it and how they would pray for me...

@Jcluvsbroncos well I thought a few years back that I had it but I dont believe I ever really did untill last year when God talk to me through my tongues n it was so amazing but its hard to tell someone something that they never expeianced but u have to open up and have faith, believe in the gift because God truely wants us to have this gift but u have to open up to him and believe it...hope u find the truth, God bless!!
hey man first i just wanna say i am not comng in an offensive matter and i dont want to sound like im trying to fight. Now on that note speaking in tongues is not somethng humans can describe that is the reason it sounds so crazy it is a heavenly language between the person speaking and God and also when it is a true speakng in tongues that is said out loud than there will be an interpritation of that tongues so that we can all hear the message of it.
Good points Kevin. What matters to me on top of your points is that even if it was somehow the 'holy spirit' or whatever, we can't understand any speaking in tongues so it's useless and without value to us.
Instead of gibberish perhaps some wise words and profound statements would make these people sound less deluded.
