I have played MMO's for over 10 years. The list includes Everquest I & II, Runescape, Guild Wars, DDO, Warhammer, LoTR, Aion, Conan, and numerous others. I can honestly say that NO ONE has come even close to the PvP that DAoC offers. Even with the class balancing issues there isn't another game out there that can match the scope or magnitude of seeing 100's of players in a siege battle for a keep that lasts for a couple of hours or the intensity of 8v8 battle sin open fields.
looking for a great all the way around free MMORPG..... Look no more Dark Age Of Camelot Is Free to play now with our free uthgard private server..... please go download our new 14 day free trial and download daocportal..... look up uthgard server for DAoC.
I like this video because its legit gameplay, this is what the game really looks like. It isnt a 2 minute movie that looks pretty but has almost nothing to do with what the game is really like
For some of us this was the very first game that got us into MMO's, way way before WoW was even conceived. As far as PvP is concerned this still stands as the cornerstone achievment for any aspiring mmo to aim for as nothing has even touched it yet.
It's sad to see some people rate graphics over gameplay. Some of the very best games ive ever played were out 10+ years ago and still hold true today.
Indeed...The overall quality and amount of content is still unsurpassed in my opinion.
I think DAOC came out at just the right time. EQ1 was fading and it was among the next wave of MMOs to be released. This was before the market was really flooded and so the game didn't feel too rushed/unfinished.
Nearly eight years later, I'm not sure if any MMOs will be able to match the depth of games like DAOC and EQ. There are just too many games competing now.
MMO are too expensive to make now. I don't think we'll see something as deep as DAOC again. The business model for MMOs is simple and mass-market viable, like WoW.
Also, sadly, MMO communities has gone from a niche crowd with roots in P&P RPG's, who are willing to put up with eccentric game engines, to a mainstream crowd with simple tastes and endless demands.
m8, don't forget that this game brought up true realm vs realm / pvp - and that was revolutionary at its time.
If Mythic had the capacity and sense, they could have easily rivaled what we know today WoW (but Mythic failed). As for this vid, this is a (online) commercial vid that at leas shows SOMETHING of the game.WoW Commercials-while funny-don't really show anything but just toons and celebs. There was a lot more RPG into Daoc than WoW - I'm saying this as somebody who played this for years.
Great trailer for a great game :) I'd like to know the name of the songs too!

this brings back so many good memories
tried all the other games and none came even close
also, it had an awesome community which does not exist in the new mmos
thinking of the good old times makes me happy and sad at once

@Grymligast Agreed! I miss it so much and wish there was something out there that compares to the fun I had play in BGs and RVR.

Before people dismiss this game for its graphics:
Level to 50, join a guild. Try RvR, try 8v8. Try all realms.
I'll give you 100 bucks if you come back to me and say youve played superior pvp-focused mmorpgs before.
The pvp in this game is like no other.
