the hammer ons during long notes are another attempt to make gh even more realistic, since you can in theory pluck one string of a guitar and let it ring while u play other notes on another string

on a real guitar, if you play a note (let's say a long one) and you move your finger to the next fret (which would have to be higher up in the direction of your strumming hand) you could play another note but still have your first finger playing your previous note (you just can't hear it)
