There have been a good amount of recruits that lied their way into the Marines that had asthma and died while in boot camp from it. It's not like they magically appears and then disappears again and the areas they fight in are in fact rather limited. It's fire and then run away for the allies and it seems untrue that someone with that amount of firepower and technology wouldn't be able to defeat an enemy after 8-9 years.
