Now this is an amazing piece of music I could listen to it time and again over and over its just too bad I cant like (thumbs up) more than once :) if only all music could be more like this.......
for some reason Yo-Yo Ma's version of this soundtrack reminds me of other movies then just the western. some parts sounds like a scene from a mob movie situated in little italy whilst other parts have an almost asian sound reminding me of "house of flying daggers"
Awesome work of art, no matter how you listen to it...
"Ecstasy of Gold" is a magnificent, timeless song, that will no doubt be admired by generations to come. Thank you Ennio Morricone for creating such beautiful music. Long live your legacy!
Love it, my friend had the Metallica cover on his profile and I was sure I'd seen a Yo Yo Ma-Ennio Morricone cover album on Pandora so I looked it up and I was graced with this. Together, they are truly an epitome of talent. An amazing piece, much thanks goes out to both Yo Yo Ma and Morricone for this music.
Well the Metallica version sure wasn't as good as this one in my opinion to, but no need to call it trash. Cmon' man they had some good compositions in their day like The Unforgiven for example.
How interesting, Metallica covered ecstasy of gold and now Yo Yo Ma to and no matter how its done its still is turning out to be an awesome composition.Thank you Mr. Ma for the great personal touches that you added here, its truly my favorite version of the masterpiece created by Ennio Marricone.
Mr. Ma didn't add the great personal touches, Morricone did. He wrote this arrangement for cello with the genius cello part, Ma did a great job of performing it
Its from the Good, The Bad and The Ugly, one of the final scenes in the movie where Tuco comes across the vast war cemetery. It's an epic scene. The music matches the scene perfectly. The Mexican Standoff possibly refers to the previous movie, For a Few Dollars More, which is also an epic scene where the music works to perfection.
I can't believe there are rap references in this post. Ennio was far more prolific and held more talent in his pinky than any of us. Rediculous comments. This collaboration was a great rendition of Ecstacy, and the perfect tribute to a great composer that wasn't afraid to think outside of the box.
This music makes me smile, nice to hear a version without the vocals, although I think this recording could have been played with far more conviction.
different people like different things and have different ideas about beuaty and ugliness. For example:
I find beautiful both this music and also some music which qualifies as rap. I also find your question very ugly as it exhibits the thoughts of a closed mind and implies that rap cannot be beautiful along with this music. A true lover of music ought to understand that music brings people together and breaks down barriers...
spirex I see your point of view when you express that some things leave something to be desired.i simply believe that it is important to be repsonsable when we say things.yin-yang is shallow its mindless part music for mindless partiers.shady is whiny and angsty for whiny angsy people...all bark and no bite...venting
99 problems was ice-t b4 it was jay-z..very early hardcore for the hardcore types.
if you dont like something dont listen but dont attack and dont question unless u want to know
Rap music has been taken control of by corporate interests who would like a degradation of our natural humanity - it's really more complicated than that. I appreciate the music, but mass-produced music occasionally makes me want to cringe.
Listen to "A Tribe Called Quest" and tell me that there is not a sense of art and beauty in it. And while I can agree that any "rap" on the radio today is a gauranteed insult to music and the human soul itself, you shouldn't dismiss an entire genre of music just because of the mass-produced no talent hacks that we see popularized in rap media today.
i used to wait at a chinese gourmet restaurant in Arlington, and this album would loop every day for 12 hours. after a week i was sick of it, but now i miss it dearly. truly beautiful music, it arouses a deep sense of nostalgia.

its not plagiaraizing period music is considered as art and openly expressing it in your own image is freedom of expression

It isn't plagiarism if he's openly covering Morricone, obviously. Look at the photo in the video.

True xxpattsxx, but keeping that it mind, lines like
"i've got 99 problems, but a b*tch aint one",
"thats my girlfriend screaming in the trunk",
"from the window to the wall, all them....",
lines like that aren't about unity, there's about dominance.
early rap and hiphop was innovative. any potential for music rap had died with tupac a little over 10 years ago.
