However the order they were dispatched, some take position in front of the building, some in the rear etc. Thats the likely reason they did not take the same route. Depends also regarding water supply from hydrants, which ones to use, how to get to them etc. If all the trucks came in from the same street or same direction, whatever, its gonna get bottled up pretty quick. Anyway.......PERFECT SONG FOR THIS CRAZY ASS VIDEO. THANKS FOR MATCHING THE SONG & VIDEO UP, CLASSIC. STAY SAFE ;)
These trucks were going to the same call from different stations. I'm sure their adrenaline was high cause it was a working fire and they could see the smoke coming from the building. All the FF's had minor injuries cause they were wearing seatbelts, one positive thing. Idk if both trucks were totalled, but if not, it would be months or a year before they were back on the road. On fires, especially in the city, its needed for different trucks to approach the seen from different directions.
This accident, as all others, could have been prevented. Worse yet, these are drivers that go through extensive drivers training. These guys are driving trucks weighing over 60K pounds at higher speeds through city traffic. They know better, they are expected to know better. Yep, he blew the red light. And true, Police, Fire, Ambulance may proceed through a red light going to emergency calls.....but. They have to stop or slow down enough to absolutely gaurentee its safe to proceed.
@kingofkingsbc maybe one of the apparatus was already out on the street. maybe they were responding from different stations. or maybe they were responding to 2 seperate incidents.
and he isnt just going to keep driving you dumbass, use your brain, if you honestly think he would keep driving after that, then you arent fit to do this job.
To set the record right, I am in St Louis and was listening to the scanner when this happened. They were both on the way to a first alarm fire. Yes the other truck did stop it just took a second due to the weight. No one was disoriented or hurt in any way, thank God.
I know in the town I live in..When there is an emergency vehicle com through the switch the light to red on all sides..That may have been the case here. But if there is a chance they are going to meet at an intersection, they always radio in thet they are approaching that intersection
No opticoms in St Louis. Also, while radioing ahead sounds like a good idea...neither of these companies was coming from quarters thus neither one would have typically gone thru the same intersection on this call.
This is why you always come to a stop at a red light.
I've heard that there is a new device that would prevent these types of collisions called the Eliminator. We found out about it online by google searching for the term "collision control communications". Has anyone else heard of this device? If so, please post info. Thanks!
Just Bad ! for everybody ,the city, fire dept.,firefighters and their families,TAX PAYERS. Just BAD for everybody. Firefighters just want to HELP people in need ,they understand that time is critical in an emergency. Sometimes BAD SH#T HAPPENS TO GOOD PEOPLE! This we all know I'm sure. But, the driver that had the red light he screwed up, he should have slowed down /called on the radio ladder 2 appoaching smith @ main. This could have at least warned the other engine co. of there location.
The big picture is that 8 were injured "wearing seatbelts" and the two trucks never made the house fire. The driver of the rig that run the red light took 8 firefighters from thier call for service and support for their engine crews.
If they had hit a civilian, the truck is clearly liable and the city pays out big bucks. But since they almost killed 4 of our own, it is just another accident. Suspend the Captain and demote the driver. Send a message.
You are wrong. You have to operate with due regard at all times. Emergency or not. You may be able to speed a little and you may be able to pass through red lights... however, if you screw up and hurt someone, your in big trouble.
That is why approaching an intersection with a red light, you slow down/stop until you have 'control' of the intersection to prevent horrible accidents like this. Coming from a trained apparatus driver
hmm...That never happens in here (Fl) They slow down to like 15 mph when crossing the intersections..maybe less..and they look both ways lol that must have been amazing to see live..you just see those huge things tipping over whoa.
You, my friend, are ignorant. Drivers of emergency vehicles MUST OPERATE SAFELY. Missouri Revised Statute 304.022 5(2) The driver of an emergency vehicle may: (b) Proceed past a red or stop signal or stop sign, but only after slowing down as may be necessary for safe operation;
It's usually a requirement for fire personnel to make sure an intersection is clear before crossing it rather than blowing through it like these guys did. The fire truck that ended up on its side didn't even attempt slowing down.
actually, if it can prevent a collision like that... yes?
They should have slowed down expecially if they can't see around the corner, that's basic rules for driving, and it doesn't matter what kind of vehicle you're in.
they're a priority vehicle, but they can't just keep blazing without paying attention.
YES. Yes. And, Yes! I clear every red light before proceeding. More than that, I clear EACH LANE in case there is someone "shooting the tube" between stopped lanes that doesn't see me. Crossing against a light is very dangerous and must be handled with "all due regard" for everyone's safety. Traffic that has a green light has right of way whether they see an emergency vehicle or not. An accident blowing a red light is nearly ALWAYS the emergency vehicle operator's fault.
I guess someone got fired over this one...
(You see what I did there?)

trucks dont just stop like nothing, it takes time to stop a rig like that
efdexplr1 2 years ago
no my point was, that the truck going across
that flipped that other truck kept going after
the accident it seems.
Unless the driver was just so disoriented from the accident.
AILDdrums 2 years ago
and my point is he has his foot on the brake, a truck that size doesnt stop on a time, he is trying to stop. it takes time.
efdexplr1 2 years ago 2
After he hit the other truck, he was going slow.
It doesn't take him a half mile to stop going fuckin 20 mph.
AILDdrums 2 years ago
and he isnt just going to keep driving you dumbass, use your brain, if you honestly think he would keep driving after that, then you arent fit to do this job.

@efdexplr1
he should have considered that when crossing an intersection, next time he'll be plowing through a schoolbus
also fire engines do have good brakes
commandro 2 years ago
ever think that he may have been knocked out, its kinda hard to stop if your incapacitated. think before you speak.
