If anyone has seen the movie Ip Man 1 & 2, if you paid attention to the ending of both bad guy's when Ip Man trips the opponent and puts them in a head lock and punches their face, you can see that Bruce Lee did the exact same thing that Ip Man did.
Look at 0:46 and look at what Bruce Lee does. That is the exact same move Ip Man did in the movies.
I remember taking kung fu when I was a young lad. Copied Bruce to a T. Sparred with one of the instructors after class. He said, "don't move like that". I kicked his ass.
That was a great video! When I get on here at you tube and I see a title for JKD I end up clicking on a waste of time and a bunch of junk. But I enjoyed this. Thanks for putting some quality stuff up!!!
first time i've ever seen the picture at 2:25 w/ bruce lee holding an elevated V pretty neat the only other time i've seen him do that are from the photos of him doing it while on the set of game of death. cool 2 c
Fuck, can we put something up without the soundtrack. My god what the fuck is with all that. I'm here to see traditional martial arts not watch a Rock show. God damn drama
You idiot this is not traditional martial arts, u ppl are fucked up shit, who refused to accept that their traditional ass is ripped apart by revolutionary direct and non-traditional approach
@vi786vek judging by the video on your profile. It is clear that you have fallen into ego, and are take by your ego. This is traditional martial arts, and my uncle is 6th degree black belt and has studied many forms of pure martial arts. His hands are even registered in Japan. If you came across a seasoned martial artist, you would be finished in one shot. If anyone is an idiot, it is you. You are so full of yourself, and that is and will be your own downfall. You need to grow up
Bruce Lee got to the stage where he did not believe in a style, i am in the process of reading Tao Of Jeet Kune Do, i also read pressure point fighting methods which is useful if you are not the strongest of people.
I picked up my first book on bruce lee in the 80s . I've read many of his books and training manuscipts. I've even taken jkd concept classes.
Now 2009 to see the boom in all of these people talking about JKD and all of these schools popping up. It's just amazing to experience this!
I think Bruce would just cry with joy to see how many people there are today who loves him and apprieciate his contribution. This is JKD! (cool)(great)(fantastic)
I want to see JKD go in UFC, since JKD was the true mixed martial art fighting style and its pretty boring watch fights end in lucky TKD or K.O or submission
JKD isn't MMA. It was founded on Wing Chun,French Fencing, Boxing and Wrestling! The only martial arts in jkd is Wing Chun! And you mite hear soon. My friend Sean Spittle won the US Open WMA Ternament and He wants to go to UFC. just waiting for a reply from Dana W.
MMA is the abbreviation for mixed martial arts - the use of more than one martial art by a person. JKD was founded on many MANY styles, and JKD is supposed to use every martial art available, so that would technically be 300+ different arts. JKD changes per person though, so technically you can never say you practice JKD, because then everyone would. People practice their own interpretation of JKD.
I read Bruce's book, I like it very much. He clearly says throughout the book that Jeet Kune Do is the methodology behind thinking of martial arts. His three statements are extremely obviously showing what he believed JKD was:
Use what is practical.
Discard what is useless.
Add what is essentially your own.
Although all those arts were probably the largest factors in JKD, there were many small influences. He had a library of books on hundreds of martial arts.
What ever man. Lee said let JKD be forgotten when people said it was this or that. You wan't to call it something it's not go right ahead. I'm not a palitision so I follow what my SiJo said!
it is a fighting method your goal is to intercept and hopefully finish quick as possible. sure there are arts that use interception but which martial art emphasizes it so much? so there must be a method behind it and in order to apply it you need to follow its principals. you can call it scientific streetfighting if you like (I think that's how they cold it first)
I've read Tao of JKD, YOU don't understand. JKD has a proper stance and follows scientific principles. Use no way as way, NOT any way as way. You cant just do whatever you please and call it JKD, thats called CONCEPTS which is crap. Read the 4 Bruce Lee fighting METHOD books, or go learn from a real teacher like Sifu Carruthers or Ted Wong. Those other frauds do not belong in the same video as Bruce and Tommy, it is very insulting to suggest they are anywhere near the same class of JKD. Peace.
Yes, you're right, you said right words, but I never said "use any way as way" , I said that "Jeet Kune Do" is just a name because it is not a method. So there aren't standard techniques what yu can use in a street fight(without rules). Secondly I read "Bruce Lee's Fighting Method" and they are 4 nice books, but you must remember that tey are written by Mr. Uyehara, whereas "Tao of Jeet Kune Do is written by Bruce Lee himself.Peace for you too, my friend.
Jeet Kune Do is NOT just a name. It combines spirit, body and mind into one form with limitless variations. No weapons, only direct, economic and effective moves that deal immediate damage. Footwork is key. JKD is not MMA, or BJJ, or commercialized CONCEPTS jkd, which is a nothing more than a classical mess IMO. Sorry I take JKD serious with so many frauds and fakers around.
OK, my friend, but that's why I think that Jeet Kune Do is just a name: because it isn't a method, and it is limitless... And if you read the last chapter of Bruce Lee's Secret Book (Tao of Jeet Kune Do), you'll can read that even he thought that it is just a name.
No he didn't. Yeh he wrote thousands of notes on martial arts and philosophy, that was it he died before he even started writting his book. The Tao is just a collection of some of these notes.
The clips of Bruce and Tommy Carruthers are authentic Jeet Kune Do. The other guys not so sure, especially the guy with the sticks. Good vid, but watch Tommy's clips or Bruce's clips if you want Original JKD and not the sorry watered down crap most others do these days.
Acually, the stick thing was an Indonesian martial art. Maybe these others were indeed watered down. I don't do Jeet Kune Do, but I rather would do it if I found aschool to train in. I only do traditional kung fu and some modern wushu to keep fit and I apply the tradtional Chinese martial arts in a practical manner like Bruce Lee did, combining and adapting many kung fu styles and sparring with varying contact levels. This video is the best Jeet Kune Do video ever.
that man fighting that punchin bag! hes my fav korean actor! Where did you get that shot? 1:59
