I Hope this beautiful culture lives on and thrives.
In the '50's a group of people from all parts of Eritrea, muslims and christians of different ethnicity gathered in Asmara. They were all descendants of a man called Zaul. It is vividly acknowledged in our ancestral narrative, that he came from Lasta, and was of Agew origin. We are all an amalgam of each other. No such thing as pure blood, that's pure insanity.
I have Bilen, friend we spoke the language, and the only difference is the accent thats all. Almost the same thing. Don't get me wrong, if you don't the history, leave it alone for those who knows it better.
I don't know how true this is, but apparently Bilen were Agew people who migrated to where Eritrea is now. But like I said, I'm not sure how true this is. Can anyone clarify this?
The first migration of Bilen from Wello to Eritrea started in 13 century after the collapse of Zagwe Daynasty. A second wave of migration also followed in 16 century. According to tigrigna book titled "The ethnic make up of Eritrea", the original Bilen family who settled in Eritrea were the Tareke and Aweke clan. All Bilen they still trace their roots to Agew of Lasta, Wello. Linguistically, they are still connected to agew.

Wow. I always wondered what Agaw people were like culturally. They are nothing like the Bilen in Eritrea despite both speaking Agaw languages. Ethiopian Agaw seem to have same culture as Amhara. Interesting.
I love this song and I do remember that time I was a teen. I was in Chagnie and use to be with (Merab-abay kinet buden). It makes me cry I love my town Chignie even I cant spick agweghn I miss my beloved Chagnie. You are right they are from Dangela kinet buden

Why am I getting negatives? I never knew what Agaw people were like except that they are related to Bilen of Eritrea. Now that I have seen a piece of their culture I find it interesting.
Anyways, like it or not they are not like the Bilen of Eritrea. They may share similar language and history but culturally they are NOT like bilens.
Bilen's do not dress, dance or have music like this at all.
no no dont get me wrong i wasnt trying to be negative i was just supporting the fact that you thought the bilens are different from the southern agews of gojjam

Of course the Agaw people are so mixed up with the Amhara, in cultural as well as language. It is hard to differentiate b/n them except the language.
