all your tones sound the exact fucking same. maybe if a retard who could actually play the guitar ripped it, not just a pussie who uses his thumb to slide down because he thinks its cool.
@SatanNazi you dont HAVE to have tubes to sound good. their examples prove their creative miking can take them much farther than your tubes and closed mind.
@Quinn05 yeah, well my Engls sound better than any clip i've heard these fuckers do, so imagine if they miced it and recorded it well with a tube amp. yeah
and yes, tube amps sound better than solid state. thats a fact.
@SatanNazi tubes are awesome, and i cant wait till i can get a tube amp. but they still did a good job showing that position makes a big difference, even if i dont agree with their idea of good tone.
@SatanNazi Hey now try being nice. Nobody is dissing your amps. The amp these guys are playing with is actually quite an awesome machine. And No btw that is NOT a fact. I play through a fender hot rod deville tube amp and its great but there are some awesome solid state amps. Lots of pros even prefer solid state over valve amps. I guarantee you you'd take the sound of a tech 21 trademark over a cheap chinese tube amp with a lousy speaker in a blind sound test.
another thing, you should really DI the same riff and play it back or put it on a loop machine rather than edit the tone through the riff when it changes.... otherwise its a bad representation of what you are trying to show us.
on a tube amp its better to boost the pre volume and drop the master, thus you get a thicker tone because you are reducing the headroom before musical clipping takes place. i should know..... i own a 1970's tube amp with "only" a clean channel, but a master volume and pre amp volume, and yet i get a "distorted sound"........
Volume make much of a difference with a valve amp. Adds punch, sustain, and just makes it louder. It also sounds alot better with less gain, as apposed to a Line 6 where the sound becomes crisper the more gain there is.
Hmm it's rly helpful.. but.. isn't it better to use for example the Guitar Rig and record in Cubase, instead of spending thousand's of dollars for microphones????
Really depends on the tone you are looking for. So far, amp sims are not 100%. Still lacking in that authentic tube sound. I got my SM57's for about 80$ each. The audix i5 is another choice and cost about the same. For high gain tones, I would recommend Peavey's Revalver with it's cab sim off using a impulse loader and perhaps something like Recabinet for the impulses. That is if you want to go the amp sim route.
Also, google "andy sneap forum List of guitar amp sim software" with out the quotes for a huge list of amp sims some of which are free and sound fantastic as far as amp sims go. For example LePou is awesome if you are on PC. The forum rocks as well. Tons of information from pros. Samples, impulses, tips and tricks and all around awesomeness regardless if you are into metal or not. Great people. Just make sure to search 1st.
the whole idea of micing an amp is getting its sound, so using this non-tube/crap amp is just useless, better get a software to emyulate it. sry i dont wanna be harsh i love this tutorial just the amp... no comment

Your valve amp theory is true, the higher the volume level, the more distorted and better quality the sound is.

I'll be comparing amp sims to real mic'd up amps in a later video :)
Also, the mics I'm using aren't thousands of dollars, they're about the same price as the amp sim software I think ^_^
