  • @lilgreymouse A viral video.

  • Original wad better just saying... I am 29 grew up on both versions lol but original is great, it has an 80's nostalgic vibe :P

  • Ahh, now I grew up to this theme.

  • I came here to specifically revisit my childhood, and guess what? I loved it. I'm glad I'm a 90s kids. Kids these days don't know what they're missing. I loved this show. PBS kids was awesome. Man, I miss it. Some of the books I've seen or read have been on Reading Rainbow or PBS Kids in general. I'm pretty excited now, and nostalgic.

  • I LOVED ALL OF PBS

  • OMG when I was little I use to love this show I wish it were still on TV

  • I miss all these old shows!

  • Why the German monkey would anyone dislike this video. It is perfect in every way. 25 Dislikes must equal 25 people who delude themselves by believing that Steve is still hosting blue's clues and didn't runaway to pursue his music career (THAT DIDN'T GO ANYWHERE!). But then they turn on nick kids or whatever you call it nowadays and see Mr. Ugly on blue's clues.

  • miss these times :) 90's baby

  • You know, when I was younger I hated reading full-fledge books because our teachers always forced us to do it. I mean, come on. 2-4th Grade kids don't like to be forced to read. Who does? Who wants to be told what to read and when to have it done? But, you know, today I do like to read and it's one of my favorite pass-times in school. You have to admit that reading really does open up new places, new worlds, and new experiences. It's a place where you can go and enjoy yourself despite reality.

  • I love looking through my childhood memories. I grew up with this intro instead if the original one.

  • "A reading...COUGH COUGH...rain...COUGH...bow!" lol

  • @Uber400s that poor baby! lol

  • i used to watch this every morning at 6...it was an entertaining show

  • original intro is so much better

  • On 0:30, Levar's face scared me out

  • i don't like this version of the theme song........ the old one is better

  • this is what i grew up with

  • Favorite show that got me into reading.

  • An earing in his right ear. he's gay

  • Rhett&Link!

  • sing Chaka Khan!!

  • @canuhandleit06 thats not chaka kahn. she can sing 10x better than this woman and her version is on youtube as well. you gotta type in chaka kahn reading rainbow.

  • @505BANKMONEY Trust me i am a professional singer, and i know this is chaka Khan, i am from Chicago and so is she...and here's proof that it's her...you can google it by the way

  • @505BANKMONEY As a contribution toward her admiration and love for children, Chaka has recorded the theme song for Levar Burtons "Reading Rainbow,"

  • i remember we used to watch this everyday at the end of class in 1st grade! ahh memories..... :)

  • @Eerin101 i know right

  • Rate this up if you feel a sensation coming on every time you watch this..................

  • wow this show is soo old but awesome

  • This version sucks donkey dick.

  • fuck yall

  • i miss this show

  • holy shit im gonna cry i miss it when i was young and all theese good shows omgg waaaa i miss is ): omg rthhis used to be my most faveorite show!!

  • SHUT UP HATERS!!! Humans are prone to like the things they are most used to and be unaccostemed to new things and changes. All you haters, let me guess, the old one was the one you watched as a kid and the one you were used to, am i right? WELL THAT"S WHY YOU THINK THIS ONE SUCKS!!! This was the one I grew up with and i think it is MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the old one!!! I think the voice, music, beat, and animations are waaay better than the old one!

  • The theme from the 80s and 90s was waaay better!

  • • Making things modern, doesn’t mean you have to ruin them by making them boring, this version makes you yawn, too ghetto, too boring, and a poor interpretation of what is to be considered “modern” modern should be better, I guess in order to make it less corny, they make it boring, with less excitement, this new version isn’t exciting at all, this new generation of crap should have never existed, that why the economy and the world have gone to shits, cause of new retards

  • horrible ghetto version, sup dawg, like to eat cheese dawg aight, ghetto then g dawg yay dawg, oh give me a break, that's why the 80's and early 90's was way better then all this new garbage.

  • THis is WAY better kids tv then crap like Bakugan and Hannah Montana.

  • @Ashanmaril I agree. I am 16 almost 17 and I remember when television was worth watching. The things like Hannah Montana and Jonas, are cool, but I mean I would give anything for the old stuff ya kno.

  • we had to watch some of this 4 math and the whole class (includeing me) sang this xD

  • why does the person who is singing this new version sound shit faced Example: I can go anywheressss this version sucks, just cause it has to be modernized doesn't mean is has to be boring, it's funny but the original version tempted me to watch the show and i felt bad when the intro ended, it was so good, but this new version, after hearing, it it makes me want it to end quickly, horrible. They just could've kept the original song with new intro.

  • Man this intro sucks. The older intro is a million times better!!

  • lols at the coughing towards the end!

aww man this takes me back...

  • yay i remember this intro! we use to watch this all the time in elementary school

  • maaaann..... i loved this show

    pity his age is showing...

seeing people that entertained you grow old and wither away is sad...

  • thats roberta flack singing!

  • guess what guys. i can be anything.

  • @allseriousness yes, yes you can

  • @allseriousness I can go anywhere dude. seriusly.

  • i learned that i can be anything!

  • At 0:31, a dragon usually popped out

  • I CAN BE ANYTHING!!!!!!!

  • fantasia would make a good remix of this song

  • i remember watching this about 7yrs ago lol

  • lmao.

  • Being an Information Professional, I may be partial to the tomes of literature, but I do like quality television when it exists. As well, it only takes primarily two things to create a lasting television show anymore and they're not quality (driven by heart and soul, wit and charm, or timelessness). Sadly, most TV shows just need money & ratings to do well these days, whereas a good book still needs those aspects that people expect from quality sources, lest people stop reading entirely.

  • "Also some books don't even teach you that much like Goosebumps or manga. Those are just for entertainment."

Yes. But I am referring to the books that taught people how to do things before the television and other mediums were invented. In fact, do you know how your brain is compared to a computer? If anything, it is more like a book, because whereas computers may need replacing every few years regardless of the problem, books last unless damaged through mishandling or accident.

  • Oddly, this show--on television, before its cancellation (which made me sad)--promoted reading, despite being on the "boob tube".

  • wow

  • my little brother loves this song

  • books do give you more knowledge than video games and that's why you should read more but both give you 0 exercise (excluding wii) so you need to excercise more than read/play games.

  • sly741x: Books exercize your mind and your imagination, something videogames and television do not do. Sure, not even books give you physical exercize, but that is up to you yourself.

  • actually video games and television do exercise your mind and imagination because they provide for you a whole new universe you can be in. Playing games that make you solve puzzles and use your intellect with exercise your mind. And meeting new creatures and learning new things from t.v with expand your imagination. Books are just tv on paper. But i will agree that reading books is better than watching tv because most books teach you a lesson and help you expand your vocabulary.

  • 1. Granted, educational videogames or those with puzzles can be informative, but only so few of them exist and not many are as popular as most other games.

    2. Yes, learning new things does stimulate your imagination, but really, you learn most things from books or from actual educators whose job it is educate, not from television. PBS, being the sole exception, of course.

    3. Actually, since books came first, TV would be books with pictures that move and talk (among other things).

  • i will agree with 1 but 2, there are many t.v shows besides pbs that teach people things like the discovery channel/history channel. There are also shows that teach you life lessons like full house and arthur(yes i did watch those shows) t.v can be just as educational as books. Also some books don't even teach you that much like Goosebumps or manga. Those are just for entertainment. #3, just because something came first doesn't mean it's better. Like would you rather use an old phone or a cell?

  • "2, there are many t.v shows besides pbs that teach people things like the discovery channel/history channel. There are also shows that teach you life lessons like full house and arthur(yes i did watch those shows) t.v can be just as educational as books."

Yes, but unlike PBS--a station, whose purpose is is to primarily educate--those shows' first purpose is to entertain. Education for them is just a byproduct of the entertainment, whereas for PBS, it is reversed.

  • fuc k reading rainbow

  • geordi laforge

  • hahahhahahhaha im the kid in the red

  • omg i still remember the theme song lol

  • I remember watching this but i don't remember what it was about. And whatever happened to zoom

  • @beckys757 omg zoom was the shit!!! if u go on the pbs kids site it says they ran out of auditions :S i think anyway...

  • this makes me cry... I remember this as a child.

  • THIS IS THE NEW ONE.

    the old one is better!

  • This song was quite irritating. I prefer the full house theme out of many of the 80s and 90s show themes :)

  • I really loved this show I can see why people complain about how children arent encouraged these days This was so much better than all those other shows Evreytime I sing taht first lyric Butterfly in the sky evreyone knows ,and sings it with me lol good times

  • I CAN B TWICE AS HIGH

  • i alway watched this show before school to read 20 books but now no one dont read anymore. and these days are all about video games.

  • Your right I'm a kid but i hate video games and I rather read. Pretty diffrent for a kid but i think video games are boring. you beat the game now what do you do? BUY A DIFRENT ONE! yay now lets play the whole thing, and then lets buy another one! it just get old fast.

  • @Minimeish It's great that you'd rather read books, but according to your logic, the same thing can apply to books. What happens after you beat a video game? You play it again, or you buy a new one. What happens when you finish a book? You read it again or you buy a new one.

  • banhxeosquad: But reading is more knowledgeable. Without books, videogames and other modes of fun would not exist, because it takes a manual--a book--to learn how make things work. If we lost book knowledge, we'd become even more stupid than how we've been becoming (what with being more dependant on technology than our own human thinking, when technology is only as good as the humans that make it).

  • Great cough kid that thing's one in a million

  • I used to watch this song, then change the channel :)
