It's weird that Willis is going as a cowboy when that was a very racist time in history. A socially conscious young black man from the 70s would know about slavery in those times I think.

Well, you have to remember Willis was a kid. I mean, I consider myself a "socially conscious" black woman, but when I was a kid, I didn't think about the "link" between cowboys and racisim either. Also, when I was a kid, we would go Trick-Or-Treating in costumes such as Cinderella, Snow White, etc., without thinking that Walt Disney, just like everyone back in those days, was prejudice. Up 'til Princess Tiana (Princess & The Frog) we had NO black princesses in Disney.

@MzTJones80 The white brother's reaction was perfectly reasonable. Willis was a no-good kid and the brother was looking out for his sister. He also displayed racism in other episodes where he whined about a black guy not getting a job and said it had to have been because of racism. Besides, in real life the guy who played Willis really was a crack head for many years and was nearly sent to prison after his drug dealer was murdered.

Um, Willis was a CHARACTER. No good kid?  There's nothing in the script that has Willis painted as a crackhead. You're taking what you know in real life and making it to be fact for a tv show. Dumb. Moreover, Todd Bridges, the guy who plays Willis is married to a white woman in real life. Good to see that someone gave him a second chance rather than judge him on past mistakes, as if others (whites) don't make mistakes. By the way, have you researched the guy who plays Roger?

By the way....what are feelings on Dana Plato (Kimberly)??? She too in real life was a drug addict, but unlike Todd Bridges (Willis) she did NOT turn her life around. She robbed a video store at gun point and did drugs and porn until she killed herself. People are roughly the same everywhere, genetically speaking, you have the same number of psychos per million people. Yet under Islam the tendency for violence seems to be GREATLY increased, compared to all other religions.

this episode was so unique because it dealt with closet racism. While most racists wouldnt open up, they'd  give clues. But Roger didn't show any discomfort around Willis

In my response to the last segment, I mentioned how many episodes of this show have been take-offs of "Brady Bunch" episodes. Arnold's use of the tape recorder was clearly the "Different Strokes" version of "The Private Ear". Well, faking illness to get out of a commitment has been used as far back as "Flintstone" days, all the way through the "Brady Bunch" era right into this millenium! Wow!

First off, I am not exactly sure what you do not get. I was simply pointing out that this episode was similar to two "Brady Bunch" episodes (and a "Flintstones" episode). It was similar to "Private Ear" in that someone used a tape recorder to gather information that was none of his business. It was similar to "Will the Real Jan Brady Please Stand Up?" in that someone faked illness to get out of a responsibility. That is all!
