Blame the government, they sold it in the first place rather than deal with union issues, a few billion and a strong management team could have made another Volkswagen. Now the chinese have powertrain on a plate which have left BMW red faced, serves them right for their part in the downfall. Shame on them shitting on a company that helped them in thier early years making Austin 7s..I will never buy a BMW , spit on them and their drivers!
@tHeWasTeDYouTh Eh? Powertrain engines were brit designed, they gave the tech to BMW? BMW had crap engines for years, straight 6 with dodgy centre cams, remind me of the old Triumph straight 6 from the 70s. The Landrover pressing plant was Brit designed (still pressing x5 panels in UK too) . BMW broke up Rover and Unipart leaving Rover cars stranded unable to turn a profit selling cars alone when the profit is made after sales care (ask any car dealer how much a BMW service.part is!)
@mushroomscouser to be honest mate ive worked on lots of cars and Rovers/MG were the most reliable and still are, abnd the least of my worries- bit of a misnomer im afraid
If look at the Rover 75, it does have some resemblance to a Lincoln Town car not to mention the grill has it's similarities. If Ford wasn't in trouble and didn't sell Rover to Tata, they could have shipped the Lincoln MKS to the UK, have the Rover workers, pull the MKS apart, let them do the magic with the parts instead of just re-badging it and we have a modern Rover not a re-badge.
@Wellpinit No one is blaming Chinese for the failure of MG Rover. If MG Rover had competent managers China would never get any rights to Rover products. The only people we can blame are monkeys from Phoenix Four.
Am I right in thinking Ford now owns the rights to the Rover badge? If this is so, potential future Ford-based vehicles sporting the Rover badge would be good to see. If the brand name was sold to TATA along with Jaguar and Land Rover, Ford kept that very quiet.
Could someone tell me please where I could find the whole documental?. It seems very interesting, especially because Quentin Willson is one of the best motoring journalists to me.
now i would hate to drive a rover, when ever i see one on the road, all i see is fat brumy's having a curry next to the factory.
Don't get me wrong, i Love The cars alot and know alot about them, It is just, that it is quite embarising for us Brits, the germans and french must think we are fools .
I don't think it would work. All Chinese wanted was technical documentation so they could produce 25 and 75 themselves without being accused of stealing intelectual property (which happens so often in Chinese car manufacturing industry). It is a business, noone is interested in saving British heritage. The money is all that matters ;/
JESUS CHRIST
those fucking chicoms go the British good
they will do the same to GM, we are fucked
damn gooks

Ford mocked it and said "wrong way"!

Funny how people always blame managers or owners or the Chinese or whoever.
What about the lazy workers that threw the cars together in such a poor way that the badge reputation was ruined?
It's easy to sell a good product but near impossible to sell heaps of junk.
The real reason it closed was because the cars were built like shit.
