I own a Shopsmith and find it inadequate for bowl turning. The slowest speed you can turn is 700 RPM. This is way way too fast if your stock is out of round. The first time I turned an out of round piece the turning shaft was damaged. I had to purchase a new one for $150. Of course you can purchase a speed reducer attachment for another $250 but this is the problem with Shopsmiths. Everything is expensive and you have to buy everything from them. You are better off buying individual tools.
Makes me uncomfortable to watch. Blantant disregard for safety.

Wow-That is truly frightening, and there is no reason to ever run this machine like that.

You can lose the tips of your fingers moving that quill with that blade exposed.
