Schedrik sure is a wonderful Carol. It make's me even more proud to be a Ukrainian. Especially when every Christmas I and everybody else in the country can sing it to everyone! It's just so awesome to walk around the town and sing it to all the people you see!
@EzequielLFriscia I think you didn't quite get his comment and there's really no need to be rude. I'd like to note that it's rather amusing to see that a person making such claims doesn't speak English very well. So... przyganiał kocioł garnkowi. :)
Yhis has gotta be the most beautiful thing I have ever heard on youtube. Please if the recorder of this video reads this make a recording of more and share with the world

@RedW4rr10r The chant-Johann Pachelbel was born centuries later) It used to be a New Year's song back when we celebrated it in April, before Christianity replaced our Pagan religion.
@ClowerFray Oh, I should have read more clrearly. I read it as if Leontovych "invented" this motif. But nevermind, it clearly says something about some ancient Ukrainians.
Thanks for replying to me, otherwise I wouldn't have noticed ;)
"Carol of the Bells" (also known as the "Ukrainian Bell Carol") is a choral miniature work originally composed by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych. Throughout the composition, Leontovych used a four note motif as an ostinato which was taken from an ancient pagan Ukrainian New Year's chant known in Ukrainian as "Shchedryk" [the Generous One]
Shchedryk shchedryk, shchedrivochka, pryletila lastivochka, stala sobi shchebetaty, hospodarya vyklykaty: "Vyydy, vyydy, hospodaryu, podyvysya na kosharu, tam ovechky pokotylys’, a yahnychky narodylys’. V tebe tovar ves’ khoroshyy, budesh’ maty mirku hroshey, V tebe tovar ves’ khoroshyy, budesh’ maty mirku hroshey, khoch ne hroshey, to polova: v tebe zhinka chornobrova." Shchedryk shchedryk, shchedrivochka, pryletila lastivochka.
Great.

You can tell this was based on a chant, it's different from other carols. Chants are tools to bring about a trance state, this is captivating.

I don't know which was first, that New Year's chant mentioned here or Johann Pachelbel's Cianona in f minor ^^
Good recording anyways!
