Schedrik sure is a wonderful Carol. It make's me even more proud to be a Ukrainian. Especially when every Christmas I and everybody else in the country can sing it to everyone! It's just so awesome to walk around the town and sing it to all the people you see!

    Merry Christmas from Ukraine!!!

  • @ladyrokujo whatever, im not the only one using those expressions. It saves time.. Do YOU think thats ok?

  • Absolutely exquisite!

  • @funstuff2006 Whats wrong? If u dont know an expression, just because doesnt exists in ur language its not my fault. Pedazo de ignorante.

  • You can tell this was based on a chant, it's different from other carols. Chants are tools to bring about a trance state, this is captivating.

  • "Leontovych used a four note motif as an ostinato which was taken from an ancient pagan Ukrainian New Year's chant [...]"

I don't know which was first, that New Year's chant mentioned here or Johann Pachelbel's Cianona in f minor ^^

    Good recording anyways!

  • @RedW4rr10r The chant-Johann Pachelbel was born centuries later) It used to be a New Year's song back when we celebrated it in April, before Christianity replaced our Pagan religion.

  • @ClowerFray Oh, I should have read more clrearly. I read it as if Leontovych "invented" this motif. But nevermind, it clearly says something about some ancient Ukrainians.

Thanks for replying to me, otherwise I wouldn't have noticed ;)

  • @RedW4rr10r No problem)

  • @tbhsbandgirl

"Carol of the Bells" (also known as the "Ukrainian Bell Carol") is a choral miniature work originally composed by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych. Throughout the composition, Leontovych used a four note motif as an ostinato which was taken from an ancient pagan Ukrainian New Year's chant known in Ukrainian as "Shchedryk" [the Generous One]

  • @tbhsbandgirl

Shchedryk shchedryk, shchedrivochka, pryletila lastivochka.
  • This is scary it's so good. Imagine the most horrific things happening while this was playing. Yeah, that's what happened to me. Goosebumps.

  • One of the best versions i've ever heard, even i did not unterstand one word!

  • It's always Christmas at our cemetary.

  • Now if only American Children were that well disciplined.

  • I'm trying to find a recording of the original shchedryk on which Mykola Leontovych based Carol of the Bells. Do you know of one?
