That can happen. It's a glitch that causes you to spawn in the Nether instead of the regular world. The glitch is fixed now.

he didnt neccesarily need to spawn a flint and steel if he really thought about it he had a ton of wood and a bucket of lava the portal just needs to catch fire so he could of made a trail of about 3 thick wood and put lava at the one side and it will catch fire and make a trail to the portal that was the smart way around buy since were talking about slyfox thats ok with me to spawn in flint and steel

Protip: When you were stuck in the nether with nothing and the ghast blew out your portal with a fireball, you can have him throw a fireball into the portal entrance to re-light it.

Though that is kinda hard, but I know you would be able to.
