The reason we don't get options like that in the US are because we offer more extensive service and larger verity. There are not many places in the world someone can go to get a finger regrown or some other complex medical procedure in fact a TON of people from socialist places r happy that the US is not a socialist health care system because it means they can get higher end treatment. Someone in japan can get average care of high quality but will lack in high quality specialty care in exchange
@NirvEnd I have no idea why you are explaining this to me. I have lived in the US with and without insurance and take monthly meds and the cost is insane for healthcare in the US. In Japan health insurance is a law, and the cost for my healthcare monthly was less than 1/4 the cost of the same treatment in the US. It is also "variety", not verity. It is not about Health care as much as about health insurance and not really something I am going to debate further with you.
@ChrisNolandTV Owch you seem mad and a bit touchy. You asked in your own video for peoples opinions on the matter so I don't see why your upset. Also thanks for pointing out my typo four in the morning makes it difficult to proof read.
because the health care industry is a scam, motivated by profits and greed. The goal is actually to keep us sick, otherwise this multi billion dollar industry would go bust.
Nice video Chris. I also love the healthcare I receive here in Japan. It is really amazing. And to answer your question, I don't think we get what we deserve in America because free market capitalism is our religion. The healthcare system in America is set up as a market, whereas in Japan it is set up as a basic right for all people. I had an MRI that would have been 3000$ in America without health insurance in Japan and paid less than 200$! I wonder if there is medical tourism here?
And this is exactly why I refuse to move down to the US, ever. My girlfriend lives down there and I'm getting her to move up here to Canada, and it's one of the only things I want to ever have to force her to do, because her brothers live down in the US and they're the only family she has, but.....I cannot live down there with the horrible health care, if you get into any kind of accident, you can be bankrupt the rest of your life from it. Canada isn't perfect, granted, but it's MUCH better.
Be thankful that you're not living in Poland. ;-) You'd have to pay monthly for health care, and believe me, you would certainly NOT be satisfied from it. Everyone who can afford buys private health care here, and most of the people call for a private health care system.
And also note, that it' wasn't just cause i was sick with the flu or anything. I had developed ecoli from eating bad meat (unknowingly) and my liver and kidneys were shutting down =/. My credit is getting eaten up by something I couldn't much help, and theres nothing more that I am able to do because of the system. People are generally against it I think cause its a big change, and they fear having to wait in lines. And us Americans have a tendency to blow things out of proportion.
I currently have about $400 in collections due to a medical bill that was supposed to be paid by financial assistance, but I'm unable to pay until i receive my taxes. I would just work more if i was able, but im in school 40 hours a week, and only able to for 35 hours a week, without being completely burnt by the end of the week. I feel like I'm being punished for trying to better myself; personally i've never liked america, and this gives me reason so. :(
Chris, it's hard to find marijuana in Japan? I mean, is there used for medical purposes? Do they push on the streets like other countries? Is it tollerated or not? I'm curious, because i always thought of Japan a very legal country, and i would like to know how they react on matters like that.
Before discussing health ensurance issues, people should fix their own habits towards taking medicines.
I just dont get this need of taking all of those medicines...
If you have some serious problem and the only way to control it is with medicine, than ok,bur really dude, rush to the doctor to buy cold medicines?Thats just crazy. For small things like a normal cold, there are many many natural and healhier ways to get better. No need to get medicine involved.
Hi Chris! I love your videos! :) I get into this with my mother in law all the time. She lives in Texas and thinks Healthcare for all is the devil. Yet complains about how much she spends on all her doctors visits and pills. Your info was comforting to me. The pill bags are eco-friendly too. They keep from all the plastic pill bottles filling landfills! Great idea we(US) should adapt.
@zenmama88 they should and note that u do have to pay into the japanese system based on income its not totally free but its available to all and at a rate u can afford. its pennies in comparison to US insurance.
Very nice vid. I was glued to the end. Im a british and yes socialised medcine has both rpos and cons. Notice that you are paying a subscription kinda thing for healthcare in japan, so over the years, it'll prob add up to wot those meds cost. But still better than the big limp payment eh.
@Linternauter actually over the years it wont. Ive taken this for 10 years and its 80 dollars for one month supply in the US. its 3,000 yen for 3 months worth here which is maybe 36 us dollars. it will never cost me more or even close to the same.
You ask a question and you already know the answer. MONEY. In America we have the right to be life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness. But not no right to health care. If the insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and for profit hospitals did not have so much political power (Insert the word money here) we would have national health care right now.
This sorta reminds me of that documentary Sicko by Michael Moore I'm not a fan of him or the movie it made a valid point. people who needed medication from the aftermath of 9/11 happening, was paying over 200 or 300 dollars, but when they went to Mexico they got the medication 4 hardly anything. governments pharmacies & drug companies know they can exploit people in America. I'm so glad I am not American the medication I was on is over 3000 a pop. In canada 80% was covered the rest I had to pay
@notouchi he took them to cuba. for a few reasons. the terrorists in guantanimo (sic) bay were receiveing better healthcare than american people... cuba has cheap healthcare but america has an embargo against it even though its soon to be lifted it for travel
Hi Chris. Here is my comment. National Healthcare is provided by the Japanese Government and they want to take good care of their citizens and foreigners those who staying in Japan legally by affordable healthcare. Over here in US, the majority of the healthcare are run by the private sector corporations and they only care about their Wall Street stock price and executive bonuses. So, I guess it comes down to the difference of the understanding about healthcare. You are lucky.
Japanese National Health aims at highest accessibility to the medical care. A median working person pays 150000 yen per a year for his/her premium. 70% coverage is important because it excludes freeriders. We rarely need appointments for doctors, who supply from flu medicine to cancer operation. Of course our system has congenital weakness but most of Japanese people prefer our system than expensive US system or inaccessible UK's NHS. That is our choice.
I live in the US and my Uncle has cancer. His medication he takes would cost him $40,000 per month if he did not have health insurance. National Healthcare = A good thing
Continued... and not for the good of their fell man. It's sad. The more healthy we all are the less it will cost for everyone. And our health care system is not set up for preventative care which is a problem. I would like to see more holistic approaches in medicine. Great topic!
Hey Chris, hope you feel better. I am 100% sure it's due to the capitalist greed of the pharmaceutical and insurance companies. Even doctors are exploiting people with return visits to make a buck usually because they are busy paying off gianormous student loans for an education that they took on to help society. The problem starts with university's greed and goes right on up to our government who appeases the lobbyist request. People in the US have been taught to only work for themselves and n
When I am in Japan, I usually choose a doctor/hospital that I like to visit and I just pay the fee at a cashier at the same day that I visit it. Healthcare system/process is kind of simple. On the other hand, the US healthcare system seems much more complicated (I am currently in America). φ(- -*)
Our healthcare system here in the US is so corrupt and skewed that I totally agree with the points made in this video. Unfortunately, though, I feel should we go to a National Health Care system, that the dr.'s in this country will make everyone "pay" for something they can't get rich from by purposefully compromising people's health. That way we'll all be clamoring for the old system back. It's a damned if you do damned if you don't type of situation.
I am in the UK, Im on low income so I get free drugs free healthcare, if I were working I would expect to pay a reasonable amount each week National insurance, its a bit socialist and people take the system for a ride here and there, we all have a National insurance number so it must be documented what we are on..

I think its because America is centuries behind common sense.
Canada has psuedo free healthcare. Trips to the doctors and stuff is free and medication isnt that expensive. For a year I may end up paying 80 dollars in vitamins for my condition and various other random medicine 10 dollars each or so.. and thats with no subsequent healthcare just my citizenship healthcare. Japan is ages ahead of society, in every way shape and form.
