It's not scrapped it's still in the works... A version will be out for researchers only this year and a release date to the public has been set back to 2013... With all that goes into making these guys perfect I wouldn't be surprised to see that date pushed back even further.... Someday we will have a Zeno or one like it just not today.
If hanson robotics scrapped the zeno project the least they could do is inform us that it won't be coming out after all. I've waited for two years and no new info yet. WTF?
zeno is designed to hold conversations. Dr. Hanson's vision is to create more and more sophisticated artificially intelligent humanoid robots. google search David Hanson Robotics and learn more (i'm a lowly illustrator, not nearly smart enough to do his work justice!)
Besides conversations, what else can it do? Like can it move autonomously around the environment, will it have facial recognition, can you teach it to fetch you a beer...etc?

I think they already do. If im correct the Baby alive can now take a piss like a real baby and i think its unexspected to. not sure.
