  • love how he reinvented the song yet again.......pure class as always

  • Tks for the post...been sat at home playing this on a 12 string for what seems like ever !!

  • amazing the modfather rocks!!!!

  • Nice post, thank you. Funny how he is still doing Jam material when he says a Jam reunion will never happen, lol. Bitter dude. Looks like it's kind of eating him up, Foxton looks a lot happier.

  • Absolute class, but the way he treated Bruce and Rick was and still is a disgrace, there is no doubting his talent as a song writer and performer, but he wouldn't be where he is today without the talent and class of Bruce and Rick ...

  • Briiliant rendition of an excellent song. Love the addition of a string accompaniment aswell - gives it added class.

  • Absolutely brilliant - love this song.

  • The Modfather

  • Without Paul Weller, i wouldnt be listening to gooood goooood music. xxx

  • 100% LEGEND.

Watching the Modfather live has become something of a tradition for me and my mates and he gets better and better.

Still the best dressed man in music too

  • You cant lite a fier, you carnt cook or sew, i sing these lyrics to my wife, it realy winds her up, but i dont care about morals, you know the rest etc. I love her to death really. just like she is part of my life so is this man, Boysie.

  • I hope he writes a song called "Who gives a bloody toss about my accent?" and dedicates to the prats on this page.

  • He should write an angry tune about his hairdresser, really.

  • If you upset Weller he'll write a song like this about you,... the song is about groupies

  • no its not its about record boss's

  • It's about groupies or being used in arelationship hence the lines:

There's tarts and whores but you're much more, etc,..... face on the pillow case...

you're still the QUEEN of the butterly,...

But you surely must know the thrill BETWEEN YOUR LEGS has worn off.

So unless he's sleeping with his record bosses the whole song don't fit does it

  • Haha,... thats explains it then, cheers.

Thats Steve Cradock form Ocean Colour Scene.

  • its a great song stop complicatin shit!!!!!!!!

  • Hi, I dont think he is trying to americanise his accent, just that unless you have lived all your life within the same geographical location, with age accent does tend to mellow or deviate accordingly ,laziness plays a small part too in singing the same songs year after year , no direspect to people from the USA some of their words are what we call lazy speak.. the easiest way of saying a word that uses the least effort.

Paul Weller is just getting old thats all,not fakeness, just age perhaps.

  • I disagree. The English/American accent shifts in Weller's voice are pretty clear-cut: 1st 2 Jam LP's - a combination / All Mod Cons 'til the end of The Jam - defiantly London/SE English. / Style Council - a combination / Solo - with a few exceptions defiantly American. He does them all very well but when he applies the American to a song made famous in his own accent, forgive my stridency, it sounds bloody ludicrous.

  • i shall bow to your superior knowledge of the Jam and Weller with good grace. It was only my opinion on the human being & our physiological changes through the years. We tend to pick up "alien" accents on odd words when we had moved around, counties, countries even. I have lived all over the UK and certain words i say now with a diferent accent.Paul Weller to me is still a damn good writer/singer, i wont lose any sleep over his shifting accent, ive got kids to make me lose sleep over lol

  • I agree! About Weller's quality as a writer but 'specially about the kids!

What I was trying to convey is that I don't believe there's anything 'picked up' about his use of accents. It's a purely aesthetic choice. I just wish he'd have chosen a little more carefully here. I bought the '79 single too!

  • we are showing our age now! lol

  • @blackmore4 definately not american accent. its different, he's definately tried to add class and sophistication to his pronunciations, and i see where you're coming from, but its not american at all.

  • This is such a terrific song , and a top version of it.

  • Oh this takes me back.. i bought Strange town when it first came out and this was the B side. i have always loved this song, and this version is better than the original i think,, great one.

  • Agreed - best B side I own

  • Best Jam song, bar none !!!!!

  • choon

  • weller and gallagher are living legends

  • what's gallagher got to do with it ?

  • he's another brilliant musician

  • What an inspiration Weller is!

    Just Brilliant!!!!!

  • top tune

  • guys a legend

  • nice version of a great tune.
