My friends iRiver, that is almost one year old, now is almost not usable - screen shakes and displays weird colors. One of my two Creative mp3's have absolutely no backlight in the screen, so it is impossible to see anything, second one has got weird stripes on screen, and because it is monochromatic, these stripes make it very hard tro use. My old Sandisk mp3 works once a month.
And my iPhone works everyday, without any troubles.
I've only got a Cowon D2+ and it has shuffle. One good thing about it is that I can double the memory by using standard SD card and it reads the files on the card just as fast.
Mediocre screen, sound and video quality and thousands of (mostly useless though) apps VS great sound and video quality and an awsome AMOLED screen. I'll have the Cowon S9 over the Ipod touch yeah.
@Tisirfall that comment is exactly how i'm feeling. the touch was cool for a while, but the only thing that gives it an advatage from what i've hard over the cowon is wifi and apps (which I got bored with after a while). I think i'm going to buy a Cowon S9 or a Zune HD. Thanks.

Check up the tech specs of any iPod. They're pathetic. 2x10mW DAC in the Touch, compared to 2x40mW in the Cowon D2. That makes a mark on audio quality.

No, they claim apparently it makes them feel good. Guys, face up to it. You cannot claim Genius is useful then say dmb, dab, video support, touch screens, SD expansion and amoleds are.
Yes--user-friendliness is part of it. The thought that goes into their products, like Mac OS X as a prime example, shows in their ease of use. So many small touches and features just seem to make sense.
iPod's user interface and overall aesthetic is what brought it to the top, since it wasn't the first mp3 player. It stays at the top for the same reason, even though other players eclipse it in features.
Ease of use takes away the abillity to customize and truly make your own!. E.G discluding the iPhone and ipod touch, no new or old ipods can change theme or background! my 3 year old Zen can, and I can get custom themes too. As far as Mac OSX goes, I find it much easier to use Windows mostly because I've been brought up with it and studied it, but who finds it hard to click start and go to control panel to change settings? its the same amount of clicks as going to Apple>Preferences. I use both!
I find your claims of poor quality and to have little real grounding. I think that you need to get over you imitations, as that is what they are, due to the fact the iPod was the first portable music player which revolutionized the whole industry, and realize the plethora of small things the iPod has which make it so much better. (and don't try and tell me that the iRiver is not a copy of the iPod, they couldn't even think of a new creative name!!)
Actually The Creative ZEN was the first user friendly portable player, with it's nice interface that Apple ripped off 'n' all, it may not have been as popular but it was sure the first well built easy to navigate player I can remember buddy!
Well. I could easily answer all the questions you asked. There are good reasons. It's although a GOOD IDEA TO MAKE SUCH A VIDEO because there are to many who follow the crowd. I think it's good to think of many thinks you do. For example: why do still almost all people use windows? Almost no one has to. I'm sure most people just buy an iphone or ipod because they are to lazy to think about it. I'm an apple freak since i was 4 years old. and trust me: I KNOW WHY.
Well, for instance the shuffle is small, and now it tells you the songs your listening to and you can skip threw the music faster. The Others have lots of applications or podcasts. Even though your still quite right. It has not really something special. But for me that's fine because i don't need them. When I buy something i alway think about "There's nothing as a free lunch". If an mp3-player has something special you had to pay for it.
I have an cowon D2 and cowon got the best sound and video quality for mp3/4 players excebt bang&olhufson but thats not my price class.And apple only got middle class sound and it´s more expensive
I have some other opinion: I don't know why you all hate so much but my ipod plays well mp3.And i had an Iriver too (now it's dead). I love the old generation Iriver it was much more robust.And I am sad to say but Iriver uses for example the exact same model of hard disks as apple (hitachi and toshiba 1.8 inch).
So after all both are expensive ... both have advantages and disadvantages..and you probably will never get the perfect player.

This video is good. First off, it makes me feel good about the decision i just made a couple of minutes ago. I ordered the Cowon D2. It was a difficult choice as there are many, many good mp3 players out there. I chose this player not because of its look, but because of its amazing battery life (50 + hours). It also has very good sound quality which i find essential. I actually thought of buying an iPod but everywhere on the net it said that the sound Quality was bad. TY

I can say just the same thing that nintendude7cubed said. But iPod touch and iPhone have better sound than previsious iPods. I compared it to my cowon d2 and can say that cowon sound a way better than iPod touch or iPhone (cause i have iPhone).

The ipod does suck.. i've even used one.. yeah there are plenty of non music related features to drool upon, even album art for god's sake, but they don't even bother to add a 5 band eq for audiophiles.. and while on the subject, the sound ipods provide sucks. even with double bass on with my scull candy GIs still doesn't get half as much bass as my at least 3-year old rio karma. So ipod actually does suck. that is if you listen to music on it.

With all due respect, anyone on here flaunting ipod's 160 gb space is ignarant to mp3 players. Archos makes 160 gb players and have been since apple. I love macs but i hate ipods because there are just so many better options out there.

Besides, its harddrive based which breaks easily. Most computers in use have about 120ish formatted hd space right now. EMPTY. The iPod Plays mp3 files. The old nano didn't have the ability to play videos. Now there are 4 iPod models, None come in white. They all come in many diffrent colors. IOf you want a Video Nano, you can buy one now. The Battery life can be charged to 80% in one hour on Firewire and 60% on USB. iTunes lets you burn A CD of your music and import it in WMP, VLC, RythymBox, Amraok, and systems. Think before you add, doofus!

For music and video I use a PSP from Sony and it works wonderfully. The only bad thing is that it's a bulky machine.

I must say this video has a point. IMHO, I like to hear the fullness of my music and not to have it to be crummy like mp4. Try this: compare ac3 @ 256 vs mp4 @ 192 on a digital output. Theres a major difference. Also try the a3 by Cowon. It has support for ac3 audio and video.
Cowon D2 4tw. I had an ipod video now i have cowon D2. Cowon has much better sound, plays much louder and is a lot easier to manage music on it. Has a perfect screen. Th eonly problem is not so good buggy firmware but they are updating it quite regullary. I totally recommend cowon d2. It rox your mommas sox!

Well Some Things You Say in The video I agree but some is not true. I have just grown up using apple except i just like the simplicity of the player. I REALLy love the clix except i think would be annoying to keep on clicking and clicking when you can just make a simple hand motion with the ipod. 4. Why does the nano not have video. Well first off the screen is very small to be watching video on. Also users of the nano are usually putting the ipod in their pocket not wanting to stare at it.

in the case of sound the best product you can choose is a creative one but i think the video is better in cowon.

Check up the tech specs of any iPod. They're pathetic. 2x10mW DAC in the Touch, compared to 2x40mW in the Cowon D2. That makes a mark on audio quality.

I had to use iTunes because my brother wanted music on his 5G iPod Video, I hate the fact that I got doubled up music in my WMP library because iTunes creates a copy of each song in the My Music folder! On top of that! when I connected it to my PC to transfer some songs over for him, it deleted the songs already on the damn thing!! thankfully the thing broke down in May and I got him a Zen Vision M 60GB off ebay for $280 AUD

Yes--user-friendliness is part of it. The thought that goes into their products, like Mac OS X as a prime example, shows in their ease of use. So many small touches and features just seem to make sense.
iPod's user interface and overall aesthetic is what brought it to the top, since it wasn't the first mp3 player. It stays at the top for the same reason, even though other players eclipse it in features.

Ease of use takes away the abillity to customize and truly make your own!. E.G discluding the iPhone and ipod touch, no new or old ipods can change theme or background! my 3 year old Zen can, and I can get custom themes too. As far as Mac OSX goes, I find it much easier to use Windows mostly because I've been brought up with it and studied it, but who finds it hard to click start and go to control panel to change settings? its the same amount of clicks as going to Apple>Preferences. I use both!

I find your claims of poor quality and to have little real grounding. I think that you need to get over you imitations, as that is what they are, due to the fact the iPod was the first portable music player which revolutionized the whole industry, and realize the plethora of small things the iPod has which make it so much better. Well. I could easily answer all the questions you asked. There are good reasons. It's although a GOOD IDEA TO MAKE SUCH A VIDEO because there are to many who follow the crowd. I think it's good to think of many thinks you do. For example: why do still almost all people use windows? Almost no one has to. Well, for instance the shuffle is small, and now it tells you the songs your listening to and you can skip threw the music faster. The Others have lots of applications or podcasts. Even though your still quite right. It has not really something special. But for me that's fine because i don't need them. When I buy something i alway think about "There's nothing as a free lunch". If an mp3-player has something special you had to pay for it.

I have some other opinion: I don't know why you all hate so much but my ipod plays well mp3.And i had an Iriver too (now it's dead). I love the old generation Iriver it was much more robust.And I am sad to say but Iriver uses for example the exact same model of hard disks as apple (hitachi and toshiba 1.8 inch).
So after all both are expensive ... both have advantages and disadvantages..and you probably will never get the perfect player.

This video is good. First off, it makes me feel good about the decision i just made a couple of minutes ago. I ordered the Cowon D2. It was a difficult choice as there are many, many good mp3 players out there. I chose this player not because of its look, but because of its amazing battery life (50 + hours). It also has very good sound quality which i find essential. I actually thought of buying an iPod but everywhere on the net it said that the sound Quality was bad. TY

There are many things about ipods that attract the general public, like external sexy looks, cool clicky touchweel (which i hate), slick interface, pictures and movies (ooh wow *sarcasm), all except for the one reason they were invented: the music.. sound is aweful without headphones that cost as much as the player itself which totally defeats the purpose of the player!!

The ipod does suck.. i've even used one.. yeah there are plenty of non music related features to drool upon, even album art for god's sake, but they don't even bother to add a 5 band eq for audiophiles.. and while on the subject, the sound ipods provide sucks. even with double bass on with my scull candy GIs still doesn't get half as much bass as my at least 3-year old rio karma. So ipod actually does suck. that is if you listen to music on it.

wrongo.. forgot to add (from other comment) that ipod doesn't support mp3s.. you need to convert them to a lesser quality file (from experience) then put it on (not in its native format) therefore not technically an mp3 then. and good luck transfering it to a non ipod in its full glory because it won't happen.

Besides, its harddrive based which breaks easily. Most computers in use have about 120ish formatted hd space right now. EMPTY. The iPod Plays mp3 files. The old nano didn't have the ability to play videos. Now there are 4 iPod models, None come in white. They all come in many diffrent colors. IOf you want a Video Nano, you can buy one now. The Battery life can be charged to 80% in one hour on Firewire and 60% on USB. iTunes lets you burn A CD of your music and import it in WMP, VLC, RythymBox, Amraok, and systems. I must say this video has a point. IMHO, I like to hear the fullness of my music and not to have it to be crummy like mp4. Try this: compare ac3 @ 256 vs mp4 @ 192 on a digital output. Theres a major difference. Also try the a3 by Cowon. It has support for ac3 audio and video.

Cowon D2 4tw. I had an ipod video now i have cowon D2. Cowon has much better sound, plays much louder and is a lot easier to manage music on it. Has a perfect screen. Th eonly problem is not so good buggy firmware but they are updating it quite regullary. I totally recommend cowon d2. It rox your mommas sox!

Well Some Things You Say in The video I agree but some is not true. I have just grown up using apple except i just like the simplicity of the player. I REALLy love the clix except i think would be annoying to keep on clicking and clicking when you can just make a simple hand motion with the ipod. 1) iPod Nano 3rd Gen is now able to play videos
2) iTunes and iPods read .mp3 files and Apple do not delete them. You just have to find them.

2. Why not 40 hour battery life? Batteries with that capacity and small enought to fit into the ipods are way to expensive and who needs a 40 hour battery life anyways. Im thinking that most users are close to a power outlet or computer at least once a day and can charge the ipod

way too expensive? Look around, you're only finding batteries of ipod's around, it's rare to see these Cowon/iriver/scandisk/creative/samsung battery replacements, because THEIR BATTERY DOESN'T DIE OUT SO QUICKLY. And Who needs a 40 battery life? It's because of those days that i'm not home, it's for those days that i dont' carry these POWERBLOCKS arounds. Who needs it? I'd say people that go out a lot.

1. You ask why does the ipod not have fm radio. The answer is that fm radio is an antiquated technology. Now if i was asking questions i might ask why does the ipod not have satellite radio and also they now have fm capabiities with the fm remote that you can buy.

antiquated? are you mad? FM radio is still HERE! AM radio is going down, you got it all wrong, all car stero's still have FM tuners, now CD's are going out, you can't just say that FM is going to go out when satellite radio is going to cost subscription, and why would you want to put a ipod AND A EXTERNAL fm remote...How's that going to be feeing on a person's pocket, like your other post says.

3. why not spport for mp3 files? I not quite sure whre you got your info but all of the ipods i have owned for the past 3 years have supported mp3s.
4. Why does the nano not have video. Well first off the screen is very small to be watching video on. Also users of the nano are usually putting the ipod in their pocket not wanting to stare at it.
