I've been playing TF2 for under a year or something(Bought it a few weeks to 1-2 months before it went for free) and I really, really enjoy it although it's really difficult as I'm coming from console. I really respect that this game stays fresh after 5 years when it's common for others to release a new game 1-2 years after the previous.
i just want to point this out but f2ps and noobs alike are ruining tf2 for example at 5:10 a spy misses at least 3 easy backstabs and proceeds to pull out a revolver behind the demoman hoping to kill him... wtf clayboy27 you win the derpy award
I thought Jerma had something to back up his TF2 may die claims.Isn't TF2 one of the most played games on steam since it went F2P? The data simply doesn't support this unless there was some brutal decline of players before the xmas update.

TF2 has been around since 2007, and the uber update alone (allowing TF2 to be free) effectively doubled the amount of people playing the game.
The Christmas update is almost sure to bring new items, because if a whole lot of the same items come out (hats), then it will mess around with the economy. Also, what else would be in the naughty and nice crates?
I have to at least somewhat agree with Jerma. The main problem I have with TF2 is that it still needs so much fixing of the items it currently has. There are still a lot that are either overpowered or underpowered. Competitive TF2 is still in the middle of gaining popularity, so the game still has things to do, but in terms of mechanics it could easily die. If it stays broken, people will leave as soon as there's a similar game that isn't as broken.
@SubconsciousManifest well hopefully VALVE can fix these thing because i really want this game and i hope when christmas day comes and i open my presents i get a kick ass computer that can run TF2 because this game looks so much fun(:
Ima tell u one thing ! Wolfenstein Enemy Territory (the online feature) has not been done anything with for god knows how many years, and it still has an active fanbase, NOT big, but it's still there!
@Moeyz69 try something else then - tf2 has lots of stuff thats not boring at all, even for advanced players - go on custom map servers (that actually play good maps) for a change of scenery, or try stuff like rocket jumping or surfing - its just mad fun (at least for me)
if you are searching for something more organized, try tf2 lobby and get into some highlander matches - seriously, theres stuff to do, you just gotta look for it :)

Play an mmo is you are worried about always getting new items. New items in a fps only serve to unbalance the game further. The enforcer is a perfect example. In their haste to add another revolver, valve made an op addition to the spy's arsenal.
One thing that has been bugging me a bit is your server-selection when you record your gameplays. You really need to get those terrible pay2win servers on to your blacklist. New players will probably not notice but the tf2 vets will raise their brow a bit when they see you go hard at those.
I don't like to say negative things in other people's channels but this has been bugging me because I think you are one of the best commentators on YT.
i have only been playing tf2 for a few month (around 4-5) so i'm not getting tired at the game, but i can understand that the other people that have been playing it for 2 years or more can get pretty tired at it. But i hope it's not going to die =D

A lot of new big titles recently, BF3, MW3, Skyrim, VALVe are working on the new CS, so yeah, I agree with you, unless there is some sort of wonder in the christmas update, tf2 is gonna die.
i think it started at the mannconomy update, but it was only being hurt a little bit. F2P is when it started to really die (not for F2P's themselves, just valves need for more support to the game) then it started to go WAY farther after the manniversery update. i don't think tf2 is going to die very soon, but it won't be a very long time before all you see are competitive matches

@totalstais its a big part of the game - tf2 wouldnt be what it is today if it werent for all those new items. Also im still waiting for the engi to actually get good new equip to get a bit more versatile. New items are not all there is to the game - but they really keep the game fresh, and mess with balance a bit when they are released.
Because lets be honest, you can only play badwater goldrush and badlands for so long with the same items.
Valve mostly doesn't care about weapons, since there are people ready to spend a lot of honey money for hats in the shop. Team Fortress 2 was beast before the mannconomy update. Not saying that it was bad, but a shop where you can buy hats and everything easily....meh...
the steam workshop has been implemented only a month and a bit ago. Give them some more time. I'm sure they've just been overwhelmed with ideas that need to be properly tested
Jerma, I understand what you think, but I'm not exactly sure about this. For a long time, we had updates quite often to get players on the game, the game even went free to atract more of them! now Valve has done almost everything, they can't do much more... or maybe they're working on a team fortress 3 project! but I don't care if I'm on the 10 last players of that game, it will still be my favorite, and I will play.
You know it's part of a games life, not every game lasts for ever and some may be very lucky to be and they really deserve it. We COULD say that TF2 is dying well you shouldnt be surprised because of all the technological advancement of our society and that it produces games more appealing to the eyes, i am not saying that great games revolve on vfx, but grafix wise , we are indeed observing it more than before. TF2 is a great game and has been in it's prime couple years ago, but it's dying
Well, dying is probably the wrong term to use. According to the Steamograph, daily peak play attendance is around 32k-45k, depending. HOWEVER, this number can't be relied upon as accurate since it doesn't take into account people who are playing versus those who are idling/only trading.
It would be more accurate to say is TF2 stagnating. They make ridiculous amounts of useless hats, but my character still only has one head. So they made 2 misc slots. And reskins. And stranges. But nothing new.
I've been playing since beta 2007 and I still find the game tremendously fun. Honestly, the cure for boredom with the game is: play on custom maps! GOOD custom maps with GOOD, friendly players on a GOOD server. 24 slot, default respawn times, etc.
it's just 10x better with a nice little community and all the amazing custom maps out there. Valve has kind of given up with TF2 after the Polycount update, so only the community can keep it alive now. I'm not expecting any Christmas maps/weapons.
it is starting to die but it is not dead yet. once tf2 have a boost in marketing it will be back to its former glory. oh yea and there is no real update because it is christmas and valve WILL bring out a big update if not gg guys.
um i cant possibly think of another weapon idea :T if value adds any more weapons to the game they will most likely be craft. like the family buissness or the diamondback to situational or way stupid
And around 15 items hve already been implemented from the Steam Workshop. Above all this is Valve. They will not fail with this game. They haven't so far and they will continue to make it great.
tf2 wont die, do you know how many players joined when tf2 became f2p? plus they keep updating and its a game thats rlly fun. if they keep adding new weps, new maps, new game modes, etc. etc. etc. it will keep gettin fun. not to bring in cod, but its the same thing EVERY SINGLE GAME. they just add new stuff, new maps, and some new features. so this game will still be popular forever and many pple will still play it.
I don't think it's dying. It's unique in a world of bland samey military wank fests. It has more personality and overall charm than any battlefield or modern war stuff we get over and over and over.
TF2 isn't "dying". A game's lifespan isn't determined by its developers, but by its playerbase. People will be playing it long after the last patch has been released. And really, Valve have spoiled their players by keeping the game updated so long after release :)
The biggest worry I have is that whenever there seems to be an influx of new players, they get blown out by all the long time players who are way out of their league. No matter who you are, you have to admit, TF2 is not newbie friendly save for the few newbie servers and occasional kind stranger. At least that's what happened to me and my friend.
Granted, run of horrible luck is indeed a high chance cause of such things.

I agree, TF2 is in dire need of an update. The game could go for some new weapons at the least, and maybe even a new map or two. It might have to do with the fact that TF2 is free to play; valve is probably not taking in much revenue from the game. Although I hate to say it, developers probably will not spend that much time on the game for that reason (although valve is one of the few gaming companies that doesn't try and milk you for every dollar). But what if they released a buy-able expansion
TF2 has been dead since it went free to play imo. Also, they can't really add much of anything else in the game imo. Not actual new weapons and items. Well they could, but obviously some of the items they've added recently were either garbage, too situational, or weak and have no business being added in the first place. When it comes down to it, new items won't magically fix TF2. It's past it's prime now I'm afraid.
Also more. It's getting sad that Valve has to rely on us to add items instead of them. It's painfully obvious that they don't care about this game anymore. This trend started being more and more apparent after the Mann Co store and has only gotten worse. They are milking every last drop out of this game and it kinda makes me sick to my stomach that Valve would do such a thing honestly. They have NO idea what balance means, or moreso, they just don't care.

Constantly needing a refresher for a game but going back to the same old boring loadouts that everyone is familiar with is getting old. As in, it's starting to be obvious that Valve are morons who have no idea how to add new items. They don't even know what items CURRENTLY IN THE GAME need fixing and buffing. Much less NEW items.
Case in point. Valve are clueless at what balance actually means. Look at the Shortstop nerf. Completely unnecessary. It ruined that weapon.

@totalstais its a big part of the game - tf2 wouldnt be what it is today if it werent for all those new items. Also im still waiting for the engi to actually get good new equip to get a bit more versatile. New items are not all there is to the game - but they really keep the game fresh, and mess with balance a bit when they are released.
Because lets be honest, you can only play badwater goldrush and badlands for so long with the same items.
And btw, Still waiting for meet the pyro.

Valve mostly doesn't care about weapons, since there are people ready to spend a lot of honey money for hats in the shop. Team Fortress 2 was beast before the mannconomy update. Not saying that it was bad, but a shop where you can buy hats and everything easily....meh...

the steam workshop has been implemented only a month and a bit ago. Give them some more time. I'm sure they've just been overwhelmed with ideas that need to be properly tested

Jerma, I understand what you think, but I'm not exactly sure about this. For a long time, we had updates quite often to get players on the game, the game even went free to atract more of them! now Valve has done almost everything, they can't do much more... or maybe they're working on a team fortress 3 project! but I don't care if I'm on the 10 last players of that game, it will still be my favorite, and I will play.

You know it's part of a games life, not every game lasts for ever and some may be very lucky to be and they really deserve it. We COULD say that TF2 is dying well you shouldnt be surprised because of all the technological advancement of our society and that it produces games more appealing to the eyes, i am not saying that great games revolve on vfx, but grafix wise , we are indeed observing it more than before. TF2 is a great game and has been in it's prime couple years ago, but it's dying

Well, dying is probably the wrong term to use. According to the Steamograph, daily peak play attendance is around 32k-45k, depending. HOWEVER, this number can't be relied upon as accurate since it doesn't take into account people who are playing versus those who are idling/only trading.
It would be more accurate to say is TF2 stagnating. They make ridiculous amounts of useless hats, but my character still only has one head. So they made 2 misc slots. And reskins. And stranges. But nothing new.

I've been playing since beta 2007 and I still find the game tremendously fun. Honestly, the cure for boredom with the game is: play on custom maps! GOOD custom maps with GOOD, friendly players on a GOOD server. 24 slot, default respawn times, etc.
it's just 10x better with a nice little community and all the amazing custom maps out there. Valve has kind of given up with TF2 after the Polycount update, so only the community can keep it alive now. I'm not expecting any Christmas maps/weapons.

tf2 wont die, do you know how many players joined when tf2 became f2p? plus they keep updating and its a game thats rlly fun. if they keep adding new weps, new maps, new game modes, etc. etc. etc. it will keep gettin fun. not to bring in cod, but its the same thing EVERY SINGLE GAME. they just add new stuff, new maps, and some new features. so this game will still be popular forever and many pple will still play it.

I don't think it's dying. It's unique in a world of bland samey military wank fests. It has more personality and overall charm than any battlefield or modern war stuff we get over and over and over.

TF2 isn't "dying". A game's lifespan isn't determined by its developers, but by its playerbase. People will be playing it long after the last patch has been released. And really, Valve have spoiled their players by keeping the game updated so long after release :)

The biggest worry I have is that whenever there seems to be an influx of new players, they get blown out by all the long time players who are way out of their league. No matter who you are, you have to admit, TF2 is not newbie friendly save for the few newbie servers and occasional kind stranger. At least that's what happened to me and my friend.
Granted, run of horrible luck is indeed a high chance cause of such things.

I agree, TF2 is in dire need of an update. The game could go for some new weapons at the least, and maybe even a new map or two. It might have to do with the fact that TF2 is free to play; valve is probably not taking in much revenue from the game. Although I hate to say it, developers probably will not spend that much time on the game for that reason (although valve is one of the few gaming companies that doesn't try and milk you for every dollar). But what if they released a buy-able expansion

TF2 has been dead since it went free to play imo. Also, they can't really add much of anything else in the game imo. Not actual new weapons and items. Well they could, but obviously some of the items they've added recently were either garbage, too situational, or weak and have no business being added in the first place. When it comes down to it, new items won't magically fix TF2. It's past it's prime now I'm afraid.

Also more. It's getting sad that Valve has to rely on us to add items instead of them. It's painfully obvious that they don't care about this game anymore. This trend started being more and more apparent after the Mann Co store and has only gotten worse. They are milking every last drop out of this game and it kinda makes me sick to my stomach that Valve would do such a thing honestly. They have NO idea what balance means, or moreso, they just don't care.

Constantly needing a refresher for a game but going back to the same old boring loadouts that everyone is familiar with is getting old. As in, it's starting to be obvious that Valve are morons who have no idea how to add new items. They don't even know what items CURRENTLY IN THE GAME need fixing and buffing. Much less NEW items.
Case in point. Valve are clueless at what balance actually means. Look at the Shortstop nerf. Completely unnecessary. It ruined that weapon.
