I was there that night. I seem to recall TC coach Bob McCammon having a lot to do with what happened, encouraging his players to mix it up with the Seattle fans. Best part was we wiped the floor with the Americans that night, winning 9-2. Good times!
@macocwbyz72 they'er aged 16 to 36 and they had beer poured on is that not enough to piss you off cuz it does to me and the players and they get enough beatings on the ice aswell. they had good reason to. its called "self defence"
Even tho Im a giant t-birds fan, No one, and I really mean no one, not even portland deserves to be treated like crap anywhere! It was a even worse Idea to shove to many fans into that arena.
The fans are standing up to them! The security guards are standing up to them!!! The PEANUT VENDORS are standing up to them!!! And, by God, if I could get down there, I'D BE STANDING UP TO THEM!!!!!!!
Wrong throwing beer, without a doubt. But a hockey stick does a lot more damage than a glass of liquid. Very dumb on the players parts. Suspensions were appropriate.
@20TCams30 thats why fans should not throw anything at a young hockey fan but common insults like "You suck" or "you can't score" and "that's a Cute dress you've got on!"

What started the fight is the fans behind them were dumping beer on the American's players, it wasn't just one incident, it happened several times throughout the night. You have to remember these are mostly teenagers and emotions run high, when grown adults are doing things like pouring beer on you while you are doing your job, anyone would be inclined to retaliate. My friend was a TC American and caught up in this brawl, he said security was called earlier to monitor the fans.
I was there when that happened...coolest fight I have seen in the WHL =). What started the fight originally was that one of the fans threw a peice of ice from his beer cup at the Tri-City coach
whether it was beer or ice that was thrown doesn't matter really. I didn't see what actually started the fight, I was just there when it happened and that's what I heard. My dad has this recorded on vhs as well.
@JPhrog Actually I was one of the fans in the fight. A group of about 10 of us had been razzing the bench all night. One of the players finally lost it, turned around and squirted his water bottle on the wife of the guy next to us, he immediately poured his entire beer on the kid, and off we went. I was in my early 20s at the time, what a rush, when the dust settled (30 minutes later) we all were seated and watched the end of the game with several officers in the aisle.
@CCCP1965 What's going on this year bud? Good luck in the playoffs. Just kidding. Seattle can't win a game to save their lives. Yea be proud.

Tri City Americans are pussies and need sticks to defend themselves.

@RonBurg92 if i was on the ice and getting beer poured on me, i would probably curse the fans out. I wouldn't start throwing my stick at the crowd.

Good on the players. If hooligan fans want to attack players at a game then they deserve everything they get.

Actually, this shows what kind of "Class" seattle ADULTS have.
Pouring beer on kids 20 years younger than them.
Yeah, I'd beat the crap out of some 40 year old dude pouring beer on me, espeacially if i had a hockey stick.
