reading the book right now. this has nothing to do with the book, but i still enjoyed it SO MUCH as a child (the animated series)... and this song is EPIC!
@crybabygirl08 They tried to apply green makeup to Noah Hathaway when they made the first film. It didn't look great, so they abandoned the idea altogether.
@Kaagh178 That would've been intresting to see. I kind of wondered what he would've looked like. In a way I think he looked better without the gree skin. I gotta read this book.

Is it me or has every adaption of Neverending Story always has a woman as the main villian? The second film, the live action series, and this one all have female big bads. Not sure exactly if the third film really had a true villian but I rather not think about it. I really don't. But the point is that all three have women as villians. Why? Is it to protray an opposite for the Child-like Empress?
@RyuSpike Funnily enough all three of those women were the same villain, Xayide, portrayed three times. The only series that portrays Xayide as the opposite to the Childlike Empress (and her older sister in that version) is 'Tales from the Neverending Story'.
@RyuSpike In the book, the Childlike Empress vanishes from Fantasia (or Fantastica as the book calls that world) after being given the name Moonchild by Bastian so she never meets Xayide. As for the third film, you could argue that the Bully, Slip (played by Jack Black) was the main villain. Then again, its the evil that the Nasties generate, the Nasty which could be viewed as the bad guy of the third film. But let's not forget that the Nothing and Gmork were the male villains of the first film.
@Kaagh178 The Nothing never really had a gender (or any physical form) and Gmork is more like the Nothing's dragon rather than being the big bad himself. Interesting that the Empress's name is Moonchild in the book instead of... whatever Bastian screamed in the first movie.
@RyuSpike The Nothing's lack of gender or form was a stroke of genius by Michael Ende. Its the embodiment of dying imagination, slowly eating Fantasia away bit by bit until there's nothing left. I always saw the Nothing as male. I don't know why. The Nothing was more like a mindless, devouring beast, while Gmork actually had plans.
@RyuSpike Gmork's intentions were far worse and more evil in the book. He told Atreyu that he knew what happens to Fantasians who are swallowed by the Nothing. They become Humans in our world who work to destroy all imagination. Even worse, Fantasians who lose all hope voluntarily throw themselves into the Nothing out of depression and hopelessness in an act of suicide. And Bastian did yell out 'Moonchild' in the first movie, he just screamed it in such a way he sounded like the Tazmanian Devil.
@Kaagh178 Wow. I need to really read the book series! I'm missing out on all these important details that the movie was unable to convey to me over the years! Thanks for informing me of this. Now I'm going to find that book, read it, and watch the first movie again so that I can see the changes that were made and understand the overall plot altogether. Truly thanks.
@RyuSpike Happy to help. Another interesting piece of info is the news that a remake of 'The Neverending Story' is due in 2012. It will apparently be based closer on the book, with characters such as Ygramal the Many and Grograman the Many Coloured Death appearing. It should be interesting, but I hope most people judge it not by comparing it to the original film but to the book instead.

@mwiafe He's supposed to have green skin and blue hair... the book described him as having that. They actually tried to make him have green skin in the movie, but it didn't work.
