  • I had an opportunity to see her live at a small winery theater and from the moment she walked across the stage I was mesmerized. She is amazing, and beautiful and that outfit she's wearing in this video IS the sexiest thing ever.

  • damn that outfit! that GROOVE! don't hurt 'em

  • nice piece... i dont know much about her but she is not mention as one of the greatest....... why?

  • danm nina!!!! you must have put the s in sexie!!!!! love it.

  • luv Nina

  • i wish i was a fly that gets caught in her fishnet.

  • @cellblock21 I agree.What a star.

When people try to compare Amy Winehouse with real soul singers such as Nina or Janis Joplin,it really annoys me.They wouldn't know what soul was.

  • So flawless..Luv Nina Simone

  • my god... what a voice :O what a feeling! wanna marry someone like her!!!

  • Nina's Strut out on to the stage is so Serious..... I love her!

  • One Awesome entertainer, spokesperson and human being. God if only I could be reborn with half the spirit of this gifted musician. She is so missed...

  • Nina Simone was a true diva. She would lash out at the audience for not reacting as she felt they should and lambast the audience if she felt the crowd too small. I saw her twice, and both times she angered me. However, I bought everone of her albums, ans listento them still. She was a Force to be reckoned with. Julliard trained, civil rights singer, but could belt out the blues with the best of them. Her outfit reflected the times. It was the 60's, Man. You had to be there!

  • @abu309 Maybe she was a diva but i saw her live in London in the 60's & she was amazing. She didn't lash out at the audience even though it was in a small club, called the Ram Jam Club in Brixton,London,England.

She was amazing & could silence the audience if she thought they were talking too loudly, during her performance,by putting her finger up in the air.

I am 68yo now,but will remember that night forever,Try to listen to her version of Suzanne.

  • nina simone is crazy..I like how she stares evryone down in the beggining.

  • @DGK86ed funny you should mention that. She was diagnosed early on in her career with schizophrenia. :o

  • @93Newyorker97

After the seventies she was never the same as until the end of the sixties when she was fighting for the revolution (look at Harlem Festival 1968).

The effects of her mental troubles (bipolar disorder) became more and more obvious when she travelled and lived in Europe where she was exiled.

Look at her in Montreux 1976, she is at the border of cracking on stage.

  • @dtolbiac She seemed to get it back to get before she died though. Her performance in 92 @ Montreal was wonderful.

  • Check out that outfit Gaga an't got nothing on you. Think about it that fishnet would get the media moguls in a tizzy today but 1967 hell she may as well come out in a G sting with Tassels on her Tata's. Not to be baying at the moon but the outfit is hot dam hot so hot it could make do some crotch-pot cooking

  • Absolutely incredible.

  • I love her Outfit!!! totally wicked!!!! =)

  • Few people in the world could put it down like this woman did when she did it. Fewer people are alive today that can do the very same.

  • this was Nina in her prime, before the movement died and they killed the leaders. She was vibrant and hopeful. Read her biography if you get a chance. Nina was a born star what a story her life was.

  • nina y are perfeqtt

  • A very attractive lady with a melodious voice. Her sweet brown skin looks amazing as the backdrop for her sexy white ensemble.

  • fantastic

  • 4:00 black music for white people

  • nina WAS angry wtf black female And 1967 youd be pissed too

  • MY QUEEN!

  • i dont think Nina was angry, it is the intensity of the song, surely you cannot sing this song & smile, be realistic people! anyway, I dont think this German audience was worse or prejudice otherwise they would not come to her concert.....she was popular in Europe than in America!

  • Darauf waren die Deutschen im Nachkriegsdeutschland noch nicht vorbereitet. So viel Musikalität, so viel Gefühl, so viel Blues. Bravo Nina Simone! Was für ein Auftritt!

  • once again, she gave me chills

  • god she ROCKS! powerful centered woman!!

  • Damn She Sings Soooo Powerfully From The Heart

She was also a True Beauty

  • Nina is beautiful. Her voice is amazing.

  • The audience are rocking! Boom-ba-da-boom.

  • i found this song searching for "what you gon do" by lil jon, for a second i thought this was some kind of cover :P

  • song is "blues for mama" ...amazing performance like always

  • ALL GAL YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO...SINGING YOUR HEART FROM THE PIT OF YOUR SOUL!!! NINA THANK YOU FOR YOUR INSTITUTION OF MUSICAL LEGACY.

  • what mic is she using??

  • mmmmm))) sweet sweet.....such a sweet voice !! GOD!!!! I`m lovin it!!!

  • OHLA A ROUPA DELA! NAQUELA EPOCA OS HOMENS DEVIAM FICAR EXITADOS DO DE OLHAR

  • This lady can't sing...that's what I would say if I was stupid.

  • Nina was THE great jazz singer with the strongest political energy... That´s one of the thousand reasons why I love her especially. <3

  • She sounds truly amazing in this one, so much control to her voice!

  • I was going to ask what was she wearing too. LOL

  • Oh, my! What is she wearing?

  • 8 people dont like it ?!! how's !...!!! i think they are not human's !! thats it

  • LOL SHES HIGH!! LUV HER

  • Love this performance~ she's beautiful, I don't think she was pissed off though, from what I've seen of her live performances she'd just get really frustrated if she felt the audience was being too quiet. Probably why most of the time she'd tell the audience what to do haha

  • Sexy, Beautiful & Pure Raw Talent!!

  • @bohemen7 talented, I agree ... even much more than talented ... I'd say gifted..

but sexy ??? let's be honest dude ... she was no sexy ...

  • Comment removed

  • @mumbleora I'd share the same opinion if I let my love for her cloud my judgement,

  • @ollyuzr Just messin' witrh you.

  • Pure raw talent! Sexy, Beautiful & Talented!!

  • Blues for Mama ! That is the song ! Gottcha! I cant believe hows beautiful is her art !

  • She was ahead of her time beautiful and talented. No one can pull this look off nw. Lady Goo Goo you have nothing on talent

  • The men are like ohhh yeah, the women black bitch who does she think she is!!!LOL what a Goddess...

  • @aquarianlove69 i dont think so. The women in the audience seem more impressed than the men!

  • @aquarianlove69 And as a german I might say - there a quite a few ex- nazis, who have never heard such a powerfull, black voice bfore. They where shocked about such a self confident women, and Nina did not give them a single smile. This audience is really the typical german crowd after world war 2, what is trying to be kind of international - but most of them are really scary - like my grand parents where.

I´m so glad Nina came to germany to sing for us. This is one of the best live acts ever!

  • no wonder she looks pissed off theres no black people in the audience just a sea of white

  • @RUKHAS7171 that´s a rediculous statement

  • what an amazing performer she was!

  • Guys nina has ALWAYS had a very stoic facial expression when she sings..it's what adds to the majestic air about her. She may have been upset indeed but her facial expressions..or lack thereof had nothing to do with showing that because she always looks like this haha.. Love her to death. She was and IS the best!

  • Wow....so much grace!

  • It seems to me she's pissed because it's a playback gig. Sometimes she doesn't even 'sing ' into the mic. These germans and their big scale tv-show, always have been and always will be clueless.

  • @antwerptangodavid It is not playback.

  • I need one of those outfits, lol

  • @jocelynkia go to the produce market and buy a 2 sacs of onions (empty) and thats it, you will look exactly like her, lol

  • Nina was diagnosed schizophrenic.

  • @hawaiikaren2001 I think that was the root of her genius...

  • "Nina seems to be really pissed-off, looking around into the awfull public..." LOL

  • she is so good

  • And I thought Elvis was the greatest........

  • I love how the mic can be near Nina's waist, but you can still her loudly, fully, and clearly. Love Nina!

  • I think Nina may have invented fabulous.

  • Right On, Nina--song, style, performance, and truth. Work your space! You represent well!! The rest of us need to take good notes!

  • This song is called "Blues for Mama", not What You Gonna Do. I love it!!

  • so sexy!

  • To all the naysayers on her outfit....she was ahead of her time, feminine, aggressivfe and assured..... just as Prince could thank the Bar-Kays for their attire.....

  • @wontgoaway she had the nerve and the ballz to wear it and she rocked it...who the hell else could have done it?

  • SO Sexy I luv U!

Baby I want you everyday & every night!

White boy's crazy for you - baby....

    OMG no chance!

  • Voila!!! Nina in her brilliant best ... the strut, the dress ... the mischief in her singing ... and no doubt back at the piano as well. Too good!!!!!

  • The Egyptian Queen!!

  • Who gives a rats behind what Nina wears? Aretha, Lauren, Whitney & the rest of them should be kissing this pros ass.

  • No hay nadie más en el mundo capaz de hacer un espectáculo de esta calidad, dgnidad y seriedad en bragas y cubierta con una red de ganchillo para colgar macetas. Hay que ser muy buena, muy muy muy buena

  • @ MUARFA - I understand WAY you're using "BITCH" here. You sayin' she BADD !!

Not everyone is gon' feel you, though, wit dat kinda reference. And, for Nina, I must say, we SHOULD maybe find another way to pay homage to The High Priestess. I'm just sayin'...

  • sweet Nina

  • wow wow wow!!!!

  • I love what she is wearing! Don't know what the hell you guys're talkin about!

  • @talie0602 I agree. I think it's cute as hell.

  • Beautiful song

no offense but that outfit is fucking ugly, it's like she's wearing a basketball net.

  • @Floodian .......shut the hell up! This ain't fashion week ,bitch! Take you ass over to a channel where your stupid ass can critique fashion because we're listening to a prodo her thing over hear! And don't bother with some corny ass rebuttal cause we don't want to hear that either! GTFOH!

  • @Floodian She totally rocked that outfit!!...

  • Queen goddess!

  • queen godess!

  • Queen Godess!

  • If I remember well, she was thrown in jail here in Montreal for refusing to pay for all the champagne she had delivered to her room, taking for granted that it was included in her contract with the Sunset Paradise Club (or Doudou's).

  • Ok now, what the hell is this bitch wearing? lmbao!!! No mistake though, no one else can or could come close to her, her eccentric style made her truly unique & seriously ahead of her time...love Nina Simone!!!

  • @MUARFA HEY ASSOLE, WHY DO U HAVE T O CALL HER BITCh, YOU DUMBASS MOFUCKA?!

  • @mainforce88 claim down mainforce88...please! the reference wan't out of disrespect! I am perhaps one of her biggest follwers/supportors. I attended her wake when she died in the South of France & have perhaps every album in addition to any rare track or alum she has ever done! I Live, I mean, live fa that "BITCH"!!!! take a chill pill!!!

  • nina spent some time here in barbados and never looked pissed off here! LOL

She even dedicated a song "the folks who live on the hill" to the former PM of Barbados .. now deceased.

  • Blues for Mama was written by the great Abby Lincoln who has written a long list of really exceptional songs.

  • very thanks! the reply comes by e-mail. It's realy a powerfull sound, lyric and interpretation (indeed, looks like she feeling that way). I hope you understand my english (L), thanks again.

  • Title of the song is Blues for Mamma

  • Perplexed as to why Hapansen believes that Nina looks angry in this film clip. I think she had a way of looking quite serious when she was singing. Or, really FEELING what she was singing, which (to me) only added to her absolute magic. Thank you for posting this!! Made my day!

  • It seems that when musicians don't have a fake smile like on American idol, or are truly expressing themselves, like Nina here, some people think something is awkward or wrong. sad.

  • oh, please, I just can't found this lyric on google =/. someone knows what's wrong? thanks!

  • Hey Lordy mama

I heard you wasn't feeling' good

    They're spreadin' dirty rumors

    All around the neighborhood

They say you're mean and evil

And don't know what to do

That's the reason that he's gone

And left you black and blue

    Hey yeah

Tell me what you gonna do now

  • @4ar6 she was truly so dope!!! lyrically, vocally, musically....an eccentric genious!!!

  • the female version of God.... love you Nina!

  • god technically is a female =)

  • really? how do you figure? I really want to know how u came up with that? That is crazy!!! Explain please : )

  • Outfit is just fabulous!!

  • such talent. Wow.

  • Only Nina can get away with that outfit!!! Great video!! RIP NINA!! YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!

  • I could not agree more. Damn sexy but also a great voice and performance. What more can you ask from this woman?

  • ❤ damn, nina's voice's so perfect..hey lawdy lawdy mama what you gon do ?

  • yeah, i have that exact same outfit.

  • I agree with you MrJimbo she is much more relaxed, peaceful and emotionally engaging when she is playing the piano while singing. Skoester, she isn't lip singing the guy playing missed a key at snap :55. She was pure musical passion. RIP Nina Simone.

  • @janxdpdx not lip synched. check out the snap at :55

  • What are you talking about? This was NOT lip sync-ed.

  • just seems the vocal level has no variation despite the location of the microphone

  • @JANXDPDX it's an omnidirectional microphone, they were common in the 60's for vocals.

  • Besides the exellence of her show as "usual" with this great lady, and the cold audience has someone noticed the marvelous clothes she is wearing ? And how she is elegant with ! I know I might seem superficial but it is like a velvet box to hide a jewel, and jewel she was !!!!!!

  • I think Joan Armatrading was influenced by Nina. I like the pure sound of natural soul. Great voice.

  • Feelings

  • @Woefiej - Grundig ribbon microphone (very coveted today by collectors for it's organic sound reproduction).

  • AWESOME! She does not look "pissed" she looks like she is engaging her audience. I love her voice and style

  • She looks pissed because she 's fed up to sing for White people!lol!!Enfin je suppose, puisque ce sont des textes assez ciblé sur les difficultés des Noirs en cette période!?

  • Comparatively, she looks rather happy to be there. You should watch some of her other vids. I couldn't help thinking that that audience seemed to enjoy the performance, but they still don't "get" it.

  • She's a great performer. I don't know why you think she looks pissed...she doesn't. She just seems focused on her work is all. What is up with people thinking that black women are pissed unless they have a bright eyed smile on their face? Can we be normal and not offend, please?

  • She's an amazing performer, agreed, but she does look irritated here-- she is normally very relaxed and in control on stage, though also very serious. The more you watch this video the more it becomes obvious it's the pianist, who is off-time. You have to know her stage manner very well to pick up on it though, it's relatively subtle, clicking her fingers etc. Once she gets on the piano though and takes control, she starts enjoying herself more and playing the song like she wants.

  • Wow her voice sounds flawless & she looks gorgeous here! I'm glad she took over the piano! lol

  • i got this on dvd.. and yeah she looks pissed off but i dont know why

  • It's the off-time pianist I think; that's why she takes over. She keeps glancing over at him and doing stuff like clicking her fingers.

  • Fabulous! The more I hear the more I like her!

The previous comments appear to reflect their authors' inability not only to detach themselves from the mundane (even if temporarily) but also to account for the inescapable variation of tastes, and sense of fashion across the journey called "Life". Most importantly, however, is the underlying message which Nina Simone may have attempted to convey with her minimalist "see-through" garment: it partly complements the lyrics...

  • cool clothes shes wearing.

  • ha! what a outfit

  • it looks like she's wearing one of those things that asian pears come in

  • I'm sorry, she's a Goddess... I adore Nina Simone. But that comment made me laugh out loud!

Regardless, I agree that the outfit was probably chosen on purpose.

  • The name of the song is Blues For Mama... i love this words: Ain't nobody perfect, 'cause ain't nobody free!

  • Dr. Simone eventually just took over from that pianist, with relative grace. :)

  • Comment removed

  • wow..Nina Simone was so bold wearing that! Lol. Ha I feel kinda special having the middle name Simone :-)

  • @kairehtmie me 2!!

  • @kairehtmie me too!!!

  • @kairehtmie yeah, you are right, it looks good on her and her hair is tight too. That outfit from head to toe would suite today's fashion.

  • haha...hahaha.....

da sitzt die alte ss garde im publikum, mit ihren staubigen bdm mädels

ein auftritt vor dem führer persöhnlich

    wär auch nicht skuriler

  • una diosa nina simone te amo

  • check the outfit SEXY!-you go ms simone

beautiful black woman...got dat white dress on for a thousand dollars she wail and she moan.....

  • all those comments sound crazy most of all of Nina Simons audiences were pradomintely white thats who really listens to her. like most other blues players

  • you right i'm just now listening, the music out now is terrible, she is a beautiful black person makes me feel even more good that a lot of whites love to see her. the blacks in the industry now is trying to kill the african culture when simone embraced it. mush respect due to the queen of jazz

  • This is Blues for Mama...

  • Have you noticed that the whole audience was white?

  • LOL.

I would love to know why Nina seemed so furious at the piano player. Anyone have a transcript? x

  • He was off time n Nina was a master of time so I guess it just pissed her off lol cus she always demanded perfection. Watch some of her other videos sumtimes shell stop the performance and correct who ever is at fault and restart the performance! Love that bitch lol

  • I love how she directs this lyric to the pianist;

'that fools telling everybody he's sick and tired of you'

  • @rakash100 I would like to see this ...which videos?

  • @rakash100 Well..he wasnt off time at all..i believe its just part of the performace

  • What did you espected, it was in Germany...

  • that is amasing I love nina's words yeh what you gonna do

  • =]~

  • Nina...i love you...but wtf are you wearing?

  • It was called a chroch paint suit, they were the style back then. Some even came with chroch vest and skirts some were lined and some were not. Her's appeared to be lined....Peace

  • The name of this song is 'Blues for Mama', FYI.

  • Whooooo guurrrlll! Sing it!

  • loll you can really feel the emotion in her performance at 2:37 "get your nerves together baby "

  • What an amazing outfit! She rules the stage. It would be like almost being on the stage naked which would surely make you feel good and strong!

  • que mujer....me sorprendo cada ves mas de verla
