the feathers that flap on top of the wing are a passive sort of flow control... pretty amazing actually (and GREAT shot of it in this video). the extreme angle of attack that the birds have to use to achieve lift makes the airflow prone to separation. as the flow separates over the wing, it begins to circulate back over the feathers. amazingly, the feathers have evolved to pop up and stop the separated flow from spreading over the wing and taking away all the lift.

this is a new challenge, Hang Gliders are the closest thing we got to flying like bird,

the problem is you can only soar, you cant power up when you are close to the ground, you can have a propelor on your harrness for that but the proplem is that they are loud and inoying. The new challange is to somehow fly like birds flaping wings no propellor noise. I know it is somehow possible but how?

i have seaguls @ my school and they are so funny. I feed them sometimes and they can swallow a piece of bread 3 in. long WHOLE! And not to mention they fight for food. One of them just flys at the others and eats the food for itself. Sometimes they Purr.

Yes it is a little large in some configurations. In this set up I am using a 400MM lens that is around 2 and a half feet long and weighs 12 lbs or so. the zooming is done in post on this but we do use some zoom lenses also.
