@cazzijazzi Obviously you know nothing of why Alton Towers does that with not only Oblivion, but also Nemesis and Air. Alton Towers is under a restriction; no rides can go above treeline. Thus, Alton Towers began digging their rides into the ground to compensate.

Oblivion's drop is over 58m, but only about half of that is above ground level.
