I totally agree on the whole "how do you choose your own fursona" thing.
My way of choosing was that I have always had a fascination for wolves and tigers. After learning about the various cub raising techniques and hunting abilities, I've come to feel closer to the wolf than the tiger. Hence why I have a wolf fursona, and yet love playing as a tiger in games like Champions of Norrath.

i understand for the most part what a furry is and i like it. theres a lot of info on this subject and even more lies. My fursona is a dark dragon, white flame (for many reasons) but the one thing i have yet to figure out is "how the community was formed?" and why do so many people hate us. While Furries are people who dress up in costume, or act as a mix of their human side as well as their animal side, Therianthropes 'shift' constantly between the two in many different forms. One of the shifts is a Phantom Shift, where a therianthrope 'feels' body parts that do not follow a human template, such as tails, ears, and even paws. Most feel they're hollow and nonexistant, some feel pain through them.
to the first question, I am a furry but i don't have a fursuit or a second name(a fursona). It's just me. On the inside i'm a dog, but I still have my name and personality. My best advice is the just let them know that you're not interested, and then back away from it. Just like Vic said in his first video, yiff is only a very small percentage of the furry fandom. And yes, there are forums that are not sexual at all.

Yes...they can. Go to furaffinity and search pokemon. There's ALOT of people who consider pokemon furry because they are all (up to the third season) based off animals. After that I dunno what happened, but many people take these creatures and make fursonas out of them. Kirby...there is some art about him on furaffinity, but I personally don't consider it furry. That and I've never seen a kirby fursona.

I'm a fan of the furry community i'm member of sofurry.com and furry4life (pending)
i understand for the most part what a furry is and i like it. theres a lot of info on this subject and even more lies. My fursona is a dark dragon, white flame (for many reasons) but the one thing i have yet to figure out is "how the community was formed?" and why do so many people hate us. Is it out of ignorance or fear of the unknown, both perhaps? My guess would be they are just following the mob.

Furry: A person who has taken interest in the fur fandom of living an alter-ego online (and offline) life as an animal (i.e. a fursona). Better explained in video 1.
Anthro: An animal that has human-like characteristic. Anthro means "human" or "human related", hence "Anthropology" is the study of humans. In the fur community, it means an animal with human characteristics, but still mostly furry. EX: sonic, fox, falco, tails, ect.

Yes on that Whale Question ;) (to clear it up).Furries can be Whales, or most Sea creatures, I know 3 Orca Furries and 1 Shark Furry. (Even though, an Orca is a Porpise, not a Whale, it is confused for one :P)

While Furries are people who dress up in costume, or act as a mix of their human side as well as their animal side, Therianthropes 'shift' constantly between the two in many different forms. One of the shifts is a Phantom Shift, where a therianthrope 'feels' body parts that do not follow a human template, such as tails, ears, and even paws. Most feel they're hollow and nonexistant, some feel pain through them.

to the first question, I am a furry but i don't have a fursuit or a second name(a fursona). It's just me. On the inside i'm a dog, but I still have my name and personality. My fursona and persona are the same. I'm furry w just a human body so for me its more just a personality type. I wouldn't mind a fursuit but I doubt that it will happen for me anytime soon. I disagree with the end answer to the first question

@Preevyew (If you don't mind me answering your question) That's all up to you if you're into Yiff or not. My best advice is the just let them know that you're not interested, and then back away from it. Just like Vic said in his first video, yiff is only a very small percentage of the furry fandom. And yes, there are forums that are not sexual at all.

@oldnija Try explaining the Furry Fandom to them. If you can't, do some research and get them to look at info you found. Or, tell them exactly this: "If you gather up a HUGE group of Furries, and ask each one of them what (a) Furry is, you'll probably get a completely different answer every time. So basically, Furry can be anything from "a fun and unique hobby" to "a term used to describe animals that have human characteristics." (there's A LOT more examples, but I can't fit them allinthistext)

I used to be a closet furry, but then i just stopped caring about what people thought about me. I lost a friend, but gained two after. Friends leave you for the crowd, BEST FRIENDS will kick the crowds' asses that left you. I don't go around on the interwebs saying what furry am I or blah blah blah, like dinoanimal15 did. I just say what furry am I if it pops up in a coversation. The whole religion thing, I've seen some shun ppl if they're furry, but I've also seen ppl who accept who they are

@furryforever13 NO! You don't have to have any special artistic talent to be a true furry! However, some furries who have been part of the Fandom for a really long time may disagree and say you're a "wanna-be-fur" (my past experiance), but they obviously don't know that some may be JUST getting into the Furry Community ;). So anyway, no, you can just be a big fan of animals that walk on 2 legs and talk like humans without being able to a THING!

Thats Easy...if you like anthroporphic animals you can be a furry but at the same time you can not...there are many people that like furries and not a furry at all...remember a furry is a person that has a interest in anything anthroporphic..the same as people that are into anime.

is that furry fad only in America? i have never heard of anything like it before seing it on a gmod youtube channel. in my country i think most people would just think you had some mental disorder if you called yourself a furry and said you had connections with animals or dressed up in an animal suit. i live in Denmark btw. PS i can see the fun part of having a fursona though i still think it's weird and should be kept to yourself.

@ThorSchou Everyone's got different opinions on the furry fandom. BTW, furries come from ALL OVER THE WORLD, but mostly in America because we hold the two largest Furry Conventions in the world (Anthrocon and FurtherConfusion).

In other cases where it's a human with say, a fox tail and ears, it can usually be called a foxboy or foxgirl

As open, inviting, and generally expressive and creative the fandom is.. when people are creating there fursona some getl lazy, NOT ALL! You can mainly count this as a result of people not wanting to really, there are some very creative fursonas, but others.. not so much

Your question on society is a bit loose, furries are mostly known as a fettishist group, not just for yiffing fursuiters. To prove a point i just did a google image search on furry art. 11 out of 15 of the displayed pictures contain something of a sexual nature. We're about acceptable as sadomasochism

I remember when I first joined the fandom-- these vids would have come in handy, lol. Man, was I a bit overwhelmed! I was afraid I would break 'rules', offend someone, get judged, etc. Because of this, It took a while for me to admit that I was a furry, a fact I am somewhat ashamed of now. Nevertheless, I am a proud Fur, as well as a furry artist, writer, and ambassador! :3 Great vids, BTW!

@RajinFox I'd agree that there are quite a few gay furries out there. I'm not entirely sure why so many, but you can brush up on this little piece of history while doing some research: "Historically the furry fandom has proven to be predominantly male, but within the last decade surveys have shown that females have a far greater presence in the fandom than they did a decade before." ...The reason seems to be that almost all furries were boys in the beginning.

Yes...they can. Go to furaffinity and search pokemon. There's ALOT of people who consider pokemon furry because they are all (up to the third season) based off animals. After that I dunno what happened, but many people take these creatures and make fursonas out of them. Kirby...there is some art about him on furaffinity, but I personally don't consider it furry. That and I've never seen a kirby fursona.
