i followed plunty mate's suggestion and replaced my old ds with xl, and it is actually much better in terms of everything, personally i think it is better than 3ds, and i think i would stick to it till 3ds-xl became available

I like my DS lite, DSi, and my DSi XL, but if you like gameboy advance games get either the original DS or the DS lite because the DSi and the DSi XL don't have the gameboy card slot. Niether does the 3DS.

the web browser its just fine for mobile sites, mobile facebook works fine and other mobile sites. of course no video or sound. but its good when i travel i can check my email or facebook on it. and chat to with ebuddy.

@143cat 3DS is an entirely new console from the DS series, not just a DS with 3D... it's about the power of a Wii, has it's own game library, and a multitude of other features.
Good review. I have a DSI & if I hadn't bought it only for Golden Sun: Dark Dawn I probably would trade it it for an XL. I used to play my GameBoy Color & Gameboy Advance all the time, but handheld games just don't seem appealing anymore. I would like to play GB, GBC & GBA on my DSI, I'd buy or pay to download remastered versions of games I grew up with. Why do game developers always try to make something new when some of the best stories get lost to time because of lack of remastering?
the 3ds you need to sit in a position to use the 3d screen otherwise it dont work so they just dont put enough thought into that, if you dont sit in a right position you only see 2 screens that are not becoming one, and that sucks very much.
@choface72 The point of 3DS specific games are that they are DESIGNED to be played in 3D, nt just so that you have games to play in them. As with all DS models, the 3DS will play nintendo DS games.
Personally, I would rather get the DSi XL over the 3DS at the moment. I already have a DSi,and I love it. Best handheld console I've ever owned. Nintendo needs to work out the kinks with the 3DS before I plan to get one.

@Atstyle The DSi XL i bought cost me $160 brand new. If you include the tax on the 3DS, that's a $100 dollar difference. I understand that the 3DS has backwards compatability, I simply just do not want one at this point. I want to see if Nintendo releases a second model of the 3DS first. By that time, they will have a strong library of games to enjoy. I never get a portable system on it's first release. Big screens with a 17 hour battery life beats out a 1st model 3DS to me.

Nintendo never rehashes the same idea over and over again so therefore theres only going to be one XL system and that exists in the DSi. but i wont rule out that Nintendo is working on a variation of the 3DS, it will probably have more software features and the like

XL is still going to sell great lol! Nintendo just put out the 3ds? but the DSi XL has the advantage in a sense for those who want more screen real estate as opposed to the 3ds which has screens comparable to the XL's smaller brothers. sure theres 3d(Obviously) on the 3ds.......but there are plenty of people who prefer comfort over flashy visuals. not to mention the DS style 3d is still great regardless

What do you think of the DSI XL versus the 3DS. I have never owned a DS handheld, would it be a better value to buy a DSI XL this christmas once they are cheaper and what a year or so to see if Nintendo release's a newer version of the 3DS or just go ahead and get one.
@ATARI800XLfan I think the 3ds is a gimmick just like 3d movies and 3d tv's. its cool the first time you see but then it gets old really fast. i guarantee the "3d" phase will die within a year or two.
I personally plan on buying a dsi xl in a couple days. even better, is that the older ds systems (which are not even that old) are going to be cheap!
@Christopherwilder47 the 3ds isn't a gimmick, its an actual new system on the Nintendo franchise having better graphics than the DS. And btw, the 3d effects are awesome has hasn't die on me. But I will hold my money to buy the 3ds in the future...we need better games on it sooner or later.

I think the design of the DSi XL kills the 3DS;
- Larger screen.
- Looks as it got a lot more quality compare to the cheap plastic.
- Better stylus on the side instead of the top.
- Placing on the D-pad and analog is wrong and should be switched on the 3DS,
- Placing of the start/home/select and power-buttom. (DSi /XL players will accidental press the power-button instead of the start-button).
etc.
I hope next gen 3DS will be better.. I will not buy a 3DS before an better model is released..

Personally, I would rather get the DSi XL over the 3DS at the moment. I already have a DSi,and I love it. Best handheld console I've ever owned. Nintendo needs to work out the kinks with the 3DS before I plan to get one.

@amongallothers why would youdo that 3ds is a new console that have full backward compatibilities. so instead of getting a XL, skip it for 3ds it will have awesome games and graphic higher than the wii. plus all the features like gyroscope and accelerometer which a motion based feature. basically 3ds = wii + DS

@Atstyle You make very good points, however for me there are not enough games that interest me enough to get the system. I'll wait till next year and see how the 3DS plays out. By that time they should have a strong library of games.

@amongallothers thats why instead of buyina XL the 3ds is an safe bet, youll be able to play your old DS games without a problem, invest for the 60 dollars difference and get the 3ds getting XL is a waste of money. Tell me why you'd skip a 3ds it just seems crazy, i don't get the point... if it is cuz of funds limitation at least save up...

@Atstyle The DSi XL i bought cost me $160 brand new. If you include the tax on the 3DS, that's a $100 dollar difference. I understand that the 3DS has backwards compatability, I simply just do not want one at this point. I want to see if Nintendo releases a second model of the 3DS first. By that time, they will have a strong library of games to enjoy. I never get a portable system on it's first release. Big screens with a 17 hour battery life beats out a 1st model 3DS to me.

@amongallothers 3ds' battery is changeable for a more efficient one so not a problem point there, but do get the "i want to wait and see". still play your ds on 3ds while waiting for 3ds good games. i never own a DS b4 plan to get dsi XL when i heard about 3ds, made it simplier to me at the end you save up on cash instead of wasting for both console so, to me it still doesn't make a sense... only good reason was if you were a collecter and tried to get each console.

If the screen width of the DS lite was 4 inches in width, and the new version is 90% larger than the previous 4 + 90% (3.6) of 4, the screens on the would be 7.6 inches wide.
What they really mean is - the screens are 4 + 90% of an increment of 1 inch.

@Redweaver dont count on it id say. Nintendo never rehashes the same idea over and over again so therefore theres only going to be one XL system and that exists in the DSi. but i wont rule out that Nintendo is working on a variation of the 3DS, it will probably have more software features and the like

@TheBlitz1 oh i see where you are going with this but yeah if you do it that way then yes it looks like less then 90 percent for sure but Nintendo is banking on simpler logic lol. i mean the litterally mean that the dsi xl has almost twice the litteral screen size of the Lite XD. but you have a point, mathematically it doesnt make sense but if you think about what i just said it makes more sense.

XL is still going to sell great lol! Nintendo just put out the 3ds? but the DSi XL has the advantage in a sense for those who want more screen real estate as opposed to the 3ds which has screens comparable to the XL's smaller brothers. sure theres 3d(Obviously) on the 3ds.......but there are plenty of people who prefer comfort over flashy visuals. not to mention the DS style 3d is still great regardless

You CAN attach the pen-stylus to the system if you put a string through the little hole on the end of the stylus, and the wrist strap slot.

What do you think of the DSI XL versus the 3DS. I have never owned a DS handheld, would it be a better value to buy a DSI XL this christmas once they are cheaper and what a year or so to see if Nintendo release's a newer version of the 3DS or just go ahead and get one.

@ATARI800XLfan I think the 3ds is a gimmick just like 3d movies and 3d tv's. its cool the first time you see but then it gets old really fast. i guarantee the "3d" phase will die within a year or two.
I personally plan on buying a dsi xl in a couple days. even better, is that the older ds systems (which are not even that old) are going to be cheap!

@Christopherwilder47 the 3ds isn't a gimmick, its an actual new system on the Nintendo franchise having better graphics than the DS. And btw, the 3d effects are awesome has hasn't die on me. But I will hold my money to buy the 3ds in the future...we need better games on it sooner or later.
