But I know they were nowhere close to having sufficient supplies and weaponry to carry out a war effectively. You shouldn't write them off because they were out there with the Germans freezing their asses off and getting their guts spilled all over the eastern front.

He said there was no point because they'd be captured anyway.That was the Italian attitude,still is.

My uncle was an artillery spotter in the Italian campaign. He said the Germans had to retreat... but they retreated at the pace of their own choosing. The Allies didn`t push them too hard because they knew the Germans were the real professionals.

True,the Germans were always having to beef up Italian formations in the desert with their own men. There were several instances of heroic fighting by Italians in Africa and,among the few Italians who fought there,in Russia...but they were otherwise bad quality.

It's said that the only aspect of the war in which the Italians performed well in was the air force,but this was still insubstantial.

Some great Italian pilots fought in Battle of Britain and Greek campaign but it just wasn't enough.

All SS/FJ camo was german-made til 1943, but after Italian army was disarmed that year, huge amounts of Italian camo fell into German hands. SS,FJ and even Wehrmacht used it for the rest of the war along with their own stuff. Depends on the unit but for example, many 12th SS troops in Normandy wore a mix of Italian and German material.
