  • what if we dont have the needle that you showed

  • @stargurl552 Do you mean the crochet hook I made this with, or the needle I use at the end to weave in my ends? You can't crochet this without an appropriately-sized crochet hook, but any old yarn needle will work, to weave in ends. If you want yarn needles like mine, I have them available in my shop on zibbet dot com.

  • Very interesting!!!

  • Thank you for uploading this!! I'm making a doll for my sister using this video for the head body and limbs :) your directions are very clear and easy to follow

  • lol I was working on this... Well the end went well lol. I use plastic crochet hooks. Mine broke in half. hahahaaa

  • @39302twizzler Hahah! Been there, done that! Try and loosen your tension just a bit, and your grip on your needle. Barring that, Boye makes very sturdy aluminum hooks that bear more abuse than Red Heart's plastic line. ;)

  • @WireMySoul lol ill have to check into it. ;o) thanks for the tip

  • How would i make maybe pikachu??

  • @IwillDie4Ubabe If you're not at the skill level where you can design your own patterns, I would begin by searching the internet for a pikachu pattern and starting there. Wolfdreamer makes incredible pokemon amigurumi patterns, and if you google "pikachu crochet" you'll find her pattern is the first result. I highly recommend her patterns. Good luck and have fun!

  • you should turn it right side out.

  • @crochetnerd1 Yes that has become my preference in the last few years I've been making amigurumi. Back when this vid was made, however, I preferred the flat texture of the wrong side out.

  • I did it! Thanks for these videos. I just completed a couple of cool cat toys for our new kitten. Tomorrow...THE WORLD!! lol Heyy...a little planet earth would be pretty sweet....

    Thank you so much!!!!

  • I need help! I'm trying to make a penguin, and you know how penguins' skins are two seperate colors, black and white. How would I transition to the next color while crocheting?

  • @Happy2Live8D In your last single crochet with colour #1, you would pull colour 2 through your two loops to finish the stitch. There's a good example of this in the video by dropsdesign called "Croceht with Multiple Colours". Good luck with your penguin!

  • can you make a hacky sack with this design?

  • @ualcala97 Absolutely. Just don't do as many rows of increasing/decreasing, or it will be too big.

  • Your video helped so much , im going to ask my mom now , if i could get some yarn and whata the size ? i going to make a hacky sack now :D

  • @thekevinreyes I use worsted weight yarn and a size 4mm hook. Good luck!

  • what kind of needle is used to get the bead on? Is there a specific name for it?

  • @greenxxghostie The package just says, "wool needles". Apparently they're hard to find, so I carry them in my Zibbet shop where I only charge the cost plus postage.

  • I love crocheting, because since you have to keep focused on it, it keeps your mind from wandering to stressfull things. :)

    It's kindof lie meditating.

  • @axcounta Any craft shop.

  • erm, where can you get the needle thing?

  • @axcounta and the eyes?

  • @axcounta I get safety eyes off etsy, or I use black pony beads I bought at walmart in the kids' craft section.

  • @axcounta Buy hooks whereever you buy yarn. Yarn needles as well, though the ones I use are hard to find apparently, so I carry them in my zibbet shop.

  • I thought the marker was a little tuft of hair on the chick! It would look so cute on there!

  • I got my materials today, only to figure out (after countless tries) that I got a hook that was too small .A. Rest assured, I'll be going back to the craft store tomorrow.... Can't wait to start!

  • am a very crafty person and am a boy would i be weird if i got intrested in this looks fun

  • @Bigsp4 You wouldn't be weird at all! One of the most exciting designers in crochet right now is Drew Emborsky, (aka TheCrochetDude on YouTube). Another high profile and talented man in crochet is Mike Sellick (aka mikeyssmail on YouTube). While I admit men who yarncraft aren't as common as women, don't let it discourage you. It's a great hobby for everyone.

  • @Bigsp4 - not wierd at all. At my job I work with a few ladies whose significant others are in the military. Some of the soldiers crochet and knit as a stress reliever and as something to do when they are unable to do anything with electronics/battery requirements.

  • @Bigsp4 i understand why yhu would think its weird im a 17 yr old male and just about everyone that knows i crochet thinks its kool, but yhu know theres always somebody that has to be mean and those who are mean call me homosexual, fag. and just about anything yhu can think of.

P.S. its very fun and once yhu start yhu will never want to stop and its aslo a very wonderful stress reliever. :)

  • @bakuganforeva2012 You know, 'haters gonna hate'. Rock on, keep on crafting and don't worry about what a few small minded people think of it. You're awesome!

  • @bakuganforeva2012 I know what you mean but I'm 12 :) good craft really :D

  • @Bigsp4 most people think it's a female activity just people it's generally done by.....well, females. Honestly, it's awesome that you want to try something new. I think you should go for crocheting!

  • I can't wait to get started on this tomorrow! I have a few questions - how do you know what the start of a row/change in pattern is, how do you attach little rounds (like flowers) and how do you know how many single and double stitches there are supposed to be?

  • brilliant video!!! Thank you so much, your instructions are so clear. I have just finished my first rabbit head thanks to your video. about to start the body :)

  • it took me a few tries but i finally figured this out thanks to your video! :)

  • aWesOome! °o°!!! tHank YOUu! i Can't Wait tO sTart PracticinG :D

  • I LOOOOOOOVE YOUR VIDEO!! I made it in just 2 hours! or even less!! though I made a bigger amigurumi! HAHAHA! it was nor that round. XD but it was THAT easy!!! thankyou soo much!! you're really the BEST TEACHER EVAAAAAH! :D

  • Great vid!! you helped me so much!!!

    Thanks!

  • @MiniGlammer It's craft stuffing called polyester fibre fill, and can be found in the craft/sewing section of Walmart.

  • Wow Ty so much I had been stuck on a bird & wasn't sure how to decrease. You r a very good teacher & u saved my day for sure!! Ty again!

  • could you do a tutorial on this octopus? :) im new to crocheting and i dont really understand the directions haha! thanks for putting up these videos by the way, they"re really helpful!

    Octo-Slinky by donnascrochetdesigns *on youtube*

  • i just have to say your videos are awesome. i am making a doll for my niece's bday tomorrow i;m so confident now :)

  • @emim05 Thanks for the kind words! You go, girl!

  • @WireMySoul i finished my doll. i'll send you a link to see the pic on facebook if you want :)

  • @emim05 Woot! I'd love to see it, though I'm a NON-Facebooker. Can you still show me? Email me if you'd rather.

  • @WireMySoul youtube wont let me put the link here. i'll figure out away. maybe i'll to a response video lol

  • This is the first tutorial/video/instructions I've actually managed to learn something from. Thank you!!

  • I have a question. Whenever I decrease, my decrease rows seem to have a lot of holes that are very apparent. I have no problem increasing, but it's just decreasing that I have trouble with. Do the hooks have anything to do with it?

  • @keitachi They could. Try using a smaller hook than what's recommended on the label of your yarn. Also, check out the inivisble decrease video by nerdigurumi. I began using this decrease after this video was made, and it's still my preferred decrease for amigurumi. Good luck!

  • YYYAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!! I DID IT AND IM SOOOOO HAPPY!!!! Thankyou WireMySoul for making this video cause i cant read all that "ch2' "yo" "dec2" crap lol. later on ill post a vid to show you and other youtubers my works of (supposed) art!

  • Thank you! It really helped me a lot! ^___^

  • Okay, girrrl YOU'RE AMAZING!! :D It's my first time to crochet and I made a cute bunny ^___^ Thanks a lot for the great video, keep up the good work. ;) ♥

  • @TheKido1995 Awesome, Kido! Thanks for the kind words!

  • @WireMySoul awesome job keep it up i can't do this however even though i've never tried it looks hard.

  • im only in 7th grade and i can crotchet but i want to know how to make amigurumi u go too fast but you are very good at it! :)

  • @TheGymnasticscrazy Thanks! tjw1963 makes crochet videos with slow motion, if you need that feature.

  • excelente! AMEI!

  • thats the thing though, no matter how hard i try to follow them i dont understand it and im always in the truck with my husband. i ride with him in our 18 wheeler, so i cant go to get lessons. is there anyway that you personally could help me cause there is nothing on youtube for a dog

  • @xxxamazingcouplexxx

Do you have a mobile device like a Zune, iPad or computer? Do you have anything that you can store videos?

I can so understand your need to want to make things, especially while on the road like that with your husband. That's so wonderful you two are doing that. I'd love to help you get started any way I can. I just started to crochet a month ago and I can't stop. My fiancee bought me a Zune for Christmas, it's Window's version of an iPod player or something (cont)

  • like that. I'm able to upload videos and I carry that around with me to review what I've learned. It's so much fun!

  • @xxxamazingcouplexxx Learn the basic skills from tjw1963, she has the BEST collection of tutorials for beginners. Once you have them down, you'll be much better at reading and following patterns. I don't give private lessons over the internet, sorry.

  • wow. an amaizing tutorial. your so easy to understand. i really would like some help though. im wanting to make a dog for a friend of mine's kid. but i dont want it to look bad. can you help me out?

  • @xxxamazingcouplexxx I recommend a pattern, if you're looking to make a gift and aren't comfortable making something up yet. There are loads of great free and/or cheap patterns online for dog amigurumi. In fact, a quick search of Ravelry.com found me more than 30 different free patterns. You have to be a member but it's free and such a great resource.

  • little big panet!

  • Thanks a lot, wonderful, I totally get it!

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I've been trying for weeks to learn how to do this. You're a great teacher :)

  • Thanks for the tutorial! I did it!! Now you need part 3 for a body. I don't plan on making a chick but a sack doll. Would I just repeat the head shape and then make the body wider? What do I do?

  • @genm1 Yep, pretty much! Adjust the number of rounds you increase, sc or decrease to change the shape/dimensions of your form to make different body parts in your own style! Have fun!

  • thank you so much!! i want to make an amigurumi for along time and still dont understand the increase and decrease,,, this tutorial really helps me!! :)

  • Thanks!! This was really helpful! :)

  • Thank you so much for this! I tried following crochet patterns for this but couldn't get it. I am now ready to tackle more complex items :) thanks again and I shall be looking at your channel for inspiration.

  • @MissMcKitty You're most welcome! Glad I could be of help!

  • YAY!!! I never thought i'd be able to crochet. I made a crochet ball along with you. your instructions are great and really easy to follow. My decrease side looks a bit open, so I'm going to practice. Thank you so much Emma x

  • @MissEmmaxxx Awesome, Emma! Keep at it and make more!

  • i just ran to the craft store to get beads and stuffing! thanks so much now I can start my journey here to learn amigurumi

  • @lameexcuse17 Right on! Dive in!

  • this is like the best tutorial I've seen for crochet!! i would try this but i don't have a hook........ XD i'll keep looking for one though :-3

  • @mariamanzo24 Keep looking for that hook. You can buy one wherever yarn is sold, pretty much. Good luck!

  • How many rows did you do between parts 1 and 2?

  • @Jeshikun I think 3 rounds. You can use as many as you want to make it as tall as you like.

  • Hahaha... I did something wrong at the end and made it pear-like.

Since the yarn was like, vomit color, I decided to add a face and call it a GALACTIC PEAR! But thanks for the tut! Helped a lot :)

  • @YiaNyan9 Galactic Pears rule! Keep trying for that ball shape too though.

  • @WireMySoul Thank you so much for this video! I got a little ball now :3

  • @YiaNyan9 Yay! Now make more!! XD

  • omg amazing. u explained perfectly.

this will b a good christmas present for my niece.

    thanx.

  • Thank you so much! This video was very helpful to me and I wasn't even able to listen to the sound! Although, I still always seem to have trouble with my yarn unraveling and shedding and making the loops difficult to see and such. I think I might not be using the proper yarn and was wondering what type you would suggest for projects such as the one in your video! thanks!

  • @neonpinkglam I used red heart brand yarn for this. Red Heart Super Saver 100% acrylic I think.

  • I wanna make a ball, like in your vid, with a little ball which makes noise when it moves, so my kitten can play with it.. But I'm having so much trouble with it, like, I think I make it way too tight, because I nearly can go trough the loops o.o

  • @SchmeerKaas Try to loosen up your tension by letting your yarn move freely through your fingers on the back side of your work. I highly recommend you check out the videos by tjw1963. She makes incredible vids for beginners and sometimes watching a different teacher helps!

  • @WireMySoul No need, I actually did it! I've written down everything step by step and watched different vids and sites ^^ Thank you so much for your help! The tension was indeed my problem =O

  • i was making a ball but somehow it became the shape of a duck. XD oh well. at least i have an amigurumi duck! :)

  • @MisakiSagiyoma hahah that's pretty awesome! What's better than an accidental duck?!

  • thank u i have pretty ball now :)

  • @gulas0000 Awesome! You're most welcome!

  • I absolutely LOVE that you go slowly enough that we can follow along with you! I've been crocheting for almost fifteen years now (started when I was five :D) and I have watched many, MANY frustrating tutorials that either go too quickly or do not give enough instruction.

    You are ABSOLUTELY wonderful!!

    Keep Stitching!!!

    <3LadyGrape

  • @GrapeFlavoredRomance Wow! Thank you so much for the kind words, LadyGrape!

  • Thanks! I have been trying to learn by teaching myself and your videos have been very helpful.

  • @haska7 I'm so glad! Thanks for taking time to comment!

  • thanks :)

I have a question, what do you do if yuu want to be like in an oval shape?

i need it for the octopus head, and I want it to be in a oval shape.

    Thanks again :)

  • @awesomelover56 Oval shape is no sweat! Don't increase as much in the first few rounds, so you build your cup shape narrower than this video suggests. Check out my video for an easter egg to see what I mean.

  • im not trying to be mean but its inside out

  • @joyandjoynesscharlie To each his own. I have long since decided I prefer the 'right side out' texture on my finished amigurumi, but not everyone does. The 'wrong side' is flatter and smoother and some people actually prefer that.

  • Video is a bit fuzzy, but the tutorial was easy to understand. Thank you! I cant wait to make that purple octopus in the queue window! ^_^

  • @DesukaDesu Thanks!

  • Hi,

This is a totally brilliant way to put on eyes, thank you.

  • @LittleRobotNX01 Thanks!

  • when you're doing the amigurumi, is the hole you're going into in each STICH or the hole below the stictch? because I'm putting it in the stitch itself and now the hole below each one.

    thanks :)

  • @rintintinsm Go in the stitch. You know, below those two loops that make a V shape at the top of the stitch? Slip your hook under those.

  • Wow this video is great. I started crocheting two days ago and I've already got this down thanks to your great tutorials. :]

  • @canofcorninfiniti Thanks for taking time to comment!

  • thanks

  • @watercoloreddreams Awesome! Glad you liked it! Thanks for taking time to comment.

  • Hmm! I seem to be having a bit of trouble. I've been following your steps very carefully, one by one, pausing the video in between to make sure I've done one thing at a time, counting my stitches... I've pulled it apart and started over four times, but exactly the same thing keeps happening. Mine turns out kind of pointy, not nice and round like yours. It's as if I'm making a fat carrot, not a ball at all. Do you have any idea what I may be doing wrong? Maybe I should just make fat carrots!

  • @strangechilde Well, you could focus on carrots I suppose. But it sounds to me like an issue with your increases. Are you remembering to increase where specified (put 2 single crochet stitches in one spot)?

  • Thank you very much for your tutorials. They are so easy to follow and I thoroughly enjoy them.

  • @Jetelemew Thanks so much for commenting!

  • Great!!!

  • @80Liuba Thanks!

  • How helpful:O

Thanks so much, I'll definitely be following along this tutorial as I make heads, balls, bodies, anything!

I hope to make lots of plushies for myself or my friends and sibling:)

I found your tutorial pretty easy to follow, and knitting is a completely new thing for me ^_^

    Thanksss so much WireMySoul :D

  • @CandyComplexion I'm glad you liked it! Technically it's crochet, not knitting. I don't knit very well, but I know there are people who do make amigurumi with knitting as well. Anyway, thanks so much for taking time to comment!

  • This was extremely helpful. I hadn't been able to figure it out from the pattern I have, and your video is really easy to follow and understand. Thank you so much!

  • @LindaMikeJames Thanks so much Linda! I'm really glad to help!

  • question? everytime i crochet the circle keeps on getting smaller i mean after i made the circle in part 1 and i kepp adding rows like in the vid the hole keeps on getting smaller not bigeer why does it do that pls. tell me

  • @kusudamalovesanime Are you increasing properly? Do that by putting two single crochet stitches in the same hole, as the video demonstrates. I suspect you're either just putting straight sc in there or maybe even accidentally decreasing by sc 2 together instead of increasing with 2sc in one stitch.

  • I think I am going to learn to crochet :) It looks really fun! Can I learn to crochet with this video since I'm a beginner? Or should I look for a book first?

  • @MarshmallowBunnyEars I highly recommend videos by tjw1963, she makes the best vids for beginners, with slow-motion and everything. She is awesome. You can get a book too, they're very handy if you buy the right one (not that I can say which one that might be). There are also other picture tutorials online as well, if you google 'learn to crochet', but I think Teresa's (tjw1963) videos are 100 times better. Start there! You won't regret learning this! Have fun!

  • your amigurumi is inside out!

  • @mygweenbanky38 Yeah, that's not an uncommon thing, to use the 'wrong side' as the' right side'. I've since decided I prefer the texture of the 'right side' but many people still prefer the soft, flat texture of the 'wrong side'.

  • I must learn to crochet!

  • @yararu Do! you won't regret it. I recommend tjw1963's videos, she has an excellent "Crochet 101" series for beginners.

  • I finished my amigurumi, its not perfect but i suppose thats the charm of your first one :D

  • @YellingYaz That's awesome! Yeah, practice makes perfect, so keep at it!

  • thx you thx you thx you ive been trying to make one of these for 2 months beacause i really never got the "magic circle" im use to doing chain and I FOUND IT THX YOU :D

  • @TheDecemberQueen I remember when I discovered magic circle and amigurumi double ring methods. Oh. My. Gosh. It was just brilliant. I can't imagine going back to the chain method for amigurumi ever again!

  • Thank you so much! ^^ I have learnt a lot from your tutorial! But why is my product so small, like half of yours? :/

  • @youdontwatch I suspect you may have used a different gauge/weight of yarn than me, perhaps a light/sport weight or something? No worries. With amigurumi, as long as you don't have holes that the stuffing peeks out of, you're fine. XD

  • it looks cute like little lemons with eyes XD

  • @AznDevil1019 Heheh it does, kinda!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS TUTORIAL!! ^_^ ive always thought crocheting was really complicated and hard to do because of all the terms like "chains" that they use, but your video made it easy and not complicated at all! thank you :D

  • @Sweetstars22 You're most welcome! I'm glad it helped!

  • This video is just what I've been looking for! Thanks for the clear instructions (:

  • @xomewxo You're welcome! Glad you liked it!

  • thanks ma'am. this is fun to learn new stuff. i want to make an octopus for baby and i like the eyes you use so he cant eat them.

  • @Sonja00Ebonheart Pony beads are pretty good for that. Some "Safety Eyes" don't have the proper posts to secure the backing washer enough to make it safe for babies, so be careful when shopping for those. I also embroider a lot of faces, which is probably the safest of all for the wee ones.

  • :D You're a good teacher! :D

  • @RAWRtisJenn Thank you!

  • Awesomeness!

I originally found you via instructables. It looks like you haven't been active there for two years. Maybe you want to spread the amigurumi joy by putting your newer videos (maybe along with text instructions) on instructables?

Again, I was filled with amigurumi joy after seeing your vids!

  • @teckner I just haven't gotten around to putting the latest up there, you're right. As for text instructions, I've got to find time to do that! lol! Thanks for taking time to comment, teckner!

  • Awesome tutorial! Thank you!

  • @kelath5555 Thanks!

  • wow you make it look so easy but its a bit hard to do..........how do u make a head with a body all put together? as in like how do u make a person like figure but small

  • @R3dM0nDay It really is easy. Use what you've learned in these videos about how to make balls and tubes (see my other vids) and sew them together in any configuration you like. Watch my channel for an upcoming new series about this kind of thing!

  • Cool. I never knew that you could put in that huge bead like that as eyes. Thanks ^^ I learned something new today :)

  • @GoldenJellyBean Awesome! The key is to not rely on what you've seen others do, but start thinking about found objects and other unconventional ingredients for your projects. Imagine water bottle caps as steampunk goggles for your next amigurumi! Hmmm.. *plots and schemes*

  • EXCELLENT TUTORIAL. Yesterday i finished my first amigurumi ball using your videos step by step (I needed to watch them about 4-5 times to remember what to do). I made a few mistakes and my ball was not exactly like yours, but today i watched the complete video one more time and I ´ve got everything very clear to start the next one. THANK YOU!

  • @Evelyn40420 That's awesome Evelyn! Check out my other videos to make some arms and legs for your ball and make something really cool with it! Thanks for taking time to comment.

  • Hi WMS,

May I know if you can tell me what is the name of that needle you got there to bead the pony bead (eye) it looked cool. Where can I get it?

Also, do you have a video that can show me an oval head (spiral) instead of a globe head like this? (meaning a flat at the back of the head and the frontal face too)

Thank you! I enjoy watching this video over and over again! thank you. I think is fabulous! It is a gem!

  • @kellysoo Thanks for the kind words! They're made by H.A. Kidd and Company (the Knitting Essentials line of products) and the pack of 3 is labeled "Wool needles". I have lots, since many people say they can't find them. If you'd like to buy a pack from me, just send me a PM. :D

For a flatter form, use less stuffing and just squish it. I can't imagine another way to do that, really. I suppose you could sew the front to the back with long stitches in a few spots to secure a certain thickness.

  • @WireMySoul Yes, I would like to get from you! how do I do it? What is PM? Thank you. About the oval shape head. I really appreciate your help so much!!! XD

  • @kellysoo I've sent you a private message here on YouTube. Check out your inbox, which you'll find if you mouse-over your name at the top right of the page.
