Prince is great at the comedy thing, in his (underrated IMO) movie Under the Cherry Moon, him and Jerome Benton offered a slightly funnier side of Prince we're not used to seeing.

Every so often he'd drop a track that showed this side of him, like "If A Girl Answers" with Vanity or "Tricky" with The Time. "Bob George" (though kind of dark) had a comedic side to it as well.

Prince may have done this for two, three reasons (we/I don't know, but its fun to speculate), first, he wanted to do something for his future child, he was expecting his baby at the time.

Two, to reach a wider audience, the mainstream and show a more non-sexualized, fun, light-hearted side of him that appealed to the Oprah crowd, so to speak. to sell more records. He interviewed with her then as part of the Emancipation album.

Three, he always wanted to "play" the Muppets! What a gig!
