  • Idk, everything this documentary touched on were so basic an obvious that I left the film having aquired no new knowledge at all. I mean, you even go so far as to say its a popular misconception that Christianity was always Romes official religion,..really?! In what circle is that the school of thought?I guess it wasnt a bad efford, but other then the editing, I'm willing to bet high-schoolers could've put an more in-depth look into Romes history.

  • Ive found out the difference between romans and greeks.

The greeks were thinkers while the romans were do'ers.

    Greeks did philosophy and mathematics.

Roman built aquaducts, baths, arenas, forums and conquered Europe through superior military tactics.

  • Awsome.

  • Great job guys, I'm going to show this to my students =)

  • good job. I have a huge test that I have tomorrow on this stuff.

  • ancient romans came from the city "Troy". etruscans came from "Lydia".

  • wtf is a nuclear family? lol

  • @GRelated420 fancy term for "middle class family"

  • I don't like the new Youtube volume bar. Vote up if you agree +1

  • It does

  • Good job guys

  • Excellent job, guys! Love the parallels you draw, in pictures and words, with the USA, which I agree is a cultural empire- a commercial and military one too- which I sincerely hope won't fall for a long time yet.

  • Good video - Adam 26 M UK The romans have done a lot to shape our modern way of living. They introduced laws and politics Straight roads / Cobbled Roads Meassurements Alphabet Rooms in the home Religion Hygene (Baths, Public Toilets) Water Systems High structured Buildings Im very facinated by the early organisation the romans had yet took such a strong impact on modern ways of living, streir organisation & commandment PS What software was used to make this video
  • @Devilzwishbone2009

Also lets not forget they introduced time / record keeping (historians) and of cause Art

Without dobt the best civilazations along side the egypptians

  • Thank you! You seem to be knowledgeable on this subject. Hm, this was a few years ago... I believe we used the Sony Vegas editing platform.

  • Egypt invented all those things.

Because Egypt was politically instable within own borders, it was easy for the Romans to take control and integrate. The Romans just copied the way of living, government, infrastructure etcetera

    Just correcting...

    TY, History student

  • Im not aware of egyption history as much so I cannot comment but one thing that cannot be denied is the fact that it was the romans who spread it though their concoring

Alphabet was a roman thing, even tho egyptions had Hieroglifics, it wasnt letters but pictures.

The egyptians made piramids and caves which are high structures but I means like modern society (Coloseum etc)

  • good job!

  • i really enjoyed that, thanks guys!

  • I'm a secondary social studies teacher. This is excellent. You'd get an A in my class. I love how you gained expertise and demonstrated your knowledge. Great job.

  • this is okay not bad

  • This is so profesional it could run on the history channel.

Seriously, you sould look at some of their filming try outs that they are hosting for begining documentary makers.

  • i agree.

  • Of course, they are already falling.

    Por supuesto, están ya cayendo.

  • agree

  • wow goooddd job. totally skipped some chapters for test prep... really summed things up. Nicely done.

  • Very Good! You really put alot of work into this.

  • wow this is really well done

good job and thanks you just helped me study for my history exam a little bit :-)

  • Very good, well done!

  • Very Powerful and clever, given the integrity and brilliance of Zack on religion and both Jesses. Greeting to the whole team after all.

don't feel rejected and down, if this version of history doesn't meet the accepted version of History.

    Looking foward to future Documentaries.

    5-STARS

  • Thank you!

  • Hey, be nice!

  • I have to say, this was well done.

  • Thanks!

  • was cool im done studying rome i had 2 watch a documentray bout rome was awsome *two thumbs up*

  • Shave!

  • Constantine made the rules for Christianity. No work on Sunday, being he made Sunday the 'holy day' or the Sabbath day for worship, taking away Friday at sunset until Saturday sunset as the Sabbath day. Christianity has gotten so twisted over the centuries, with people being more concerned with how they look to others, rather than the condition of their spiritual heart, and following GOD's commandments.

  • You really made a very nice and interesting video. I enjoyed it. Thank you!

  • speak up mate. Not going to watch it now.

  • Thedosious(378-395) made Christianity a state religion.Constantin allowed people to worship freely.

  • nice documentary

  • watch?v=MzYdFwr3enU

  • wow i must say that was pretty damn good for some young college kids! and to mention the music was spectacular! kudos :D 5/5!

  • I prefer to put food in my mouth but if you scored an A on the project then more power to you.

  • Are you joking!?!?! You need a tripod, a better sound man and high quality video. And what's with the Christmas background?!?!?! It's a valiant effort but you can do better than this. Sorry but as a film studies major myself, I know you can do better.

  • um... Thank you?

  • No problem. Have a god one.

  • I must admitt- this is one of the best docs I have seen about Ancient Rome. The presentation was excellent along with the dramatic music. Gret Job. Can you do a doc on Roman burial rituals?

  • This was put together very well. The combination of music choice and knowledge of the subject made this an A+ project

  • Good job. Even though I already knew a bit of this before hand, I enjoyed it. However, some of the shaky camera sections made it look a little less professional. Still, I liked it. 5/5

  • Thank You!

  • well done

  • My video about Rome:

    /watch?v=MzYdFwr3enU

  • Nice job! :)

  • Fairly good video.

I've already learned my share of Roman history, but had I been ignorant to the culture this video would have taught me a lot. I agree with some of the previous posts, the comparison with the US was a bit much and I thought could have been left out. But still a very nice video. Great job :)

  • "The United States is not a territorial empire"...oh really? Then why have they put trillions of dollars into waging wars all over the globe and setting up huge military bases on every continent?

  • Rome is so beautiful - one of the most beautiful cities in the world

    Great video

    Carpe Diem Magazine

(YOUR global family) we are looking for global kisses x

  • Amazing video Great job !!!

    5*****

  • Slaves were of Roman and Greek ethnicity in Rome. Think of Serfdom. Some families sold their family members to pay off debt. And the Greeks and Romans did not get along. In the beggining Greek and Rome conquered each other on and off before Rome came into its grandeur. Christianity became the official religion through murder, torture, etc. to kill the Roman/Etruscan religious beliefs of polytheism.

  • smart but nutZZ!

  • On the one hand, a concise and educational view of Roman culture ... on the other, the frighteningly pretentious suggestion that present-day US America might be comparable.

  • Great Job.

This is an excellent intro to the study of Rome.

Instructors can actually use this material to intro a unit.

    Keep 'em coming.

  • Thanks a lot. Yeah, we should probably make another sometime.

  • you really think to teach us history! Just by your 500 years made by killers, yankees, wars for oil and atomic bomb???

please, try to be clever, for real i mean!

romans, greece, babylon..we are talking about civilization: read, write, policy, anything we are still today. we are not talking about baseball and "pimp my car".

no relations between romans and americans...roma is history, usa want to make history because they don't have it.they killed the history of their land and try to kill everywher

  • What are you trying to get at?

  • nothing special maid...just try to reduce the typical american presumption about history and contemporary world policy..is not your fault anyway, you r a nice guy and made a good resarching job...keep on, you will learn more :-)

  • Ohh! Haha. Well thanks. It was apart of our assignment to include the US in the research or else we would have failed the requirement. :)

  • Part I.

Great performance 4 of 5 possible stars from me. Romans were culturally as well as territorially dominating Europe at that time. Drawing parallel lines to the United States of America is definitely a really clever idea. I think the US is dominating even more culturally then territorially, because the Romans were permanently trying to expand their country lines.

  • Part II.

Todays situation has changed and the Western world won`t expand their size as far as 69 years ago, when the Germans tried their luck in Europe in 1939 to 1945. I think that all predominating empires as well as todays dominating countries will collapse soon or later in their own misery. By the way the Russians are back, the Chinese are growing as well as North Korea is preparing for something else than world peace, believe me :P

  • ONLY USA?! ha... I still loved it... but where can I get something on a nobleman's home? A villa? BAH!

  • You pronounced equites wrong

  • We know ;)

  • I wasn't refering to the film

  • America isnt an empire, never was! why do Americans keep talking complete crap! That's like saying Britain still has an empire.

  • This film doesn't imply that America has an "empire"... that is for others to decide.

  • Great movie I only have two problems, one slaves weren't the only source of labor, much of it was done via paid day laborers.

Two America is a territorial empire just like Rome in that it currently extends beyond it's original borders and has armies protecting client kingdoms and allies all over the globe. Not that there is anything wrong with that; just as Rome needed to protect her allies and punish her foes, so too does America need the same.

  • Very well made! I loved the music! Where can I get it?? :) 5/5!

  • wow whether the content is right or wrong this video itself is very nicely made good job

  • thanks ^_^

  • are you studing Roman rights or a piece of external Roman history at college?

  • Rome is center of our civilization, it our beginning and our story of the western civilization, law, education, family, culture, trade market , military, navy , horns, ect ect....this is Rome.

  • legioVmacedonica it was teh athenians who created western culture but it was the romans who kicked ass the most with it in ancient times;) now we have EU and USA carrying on that role

  • I enjoy the work you guys put in making this video,, Thank you

  • No, thank you. :)

  • Great amature video.

  • Thanks!

  • romans were full of shyt

you know becuz they werent like good peeps

    egypt=3000 yrs rome-500

  • cant you spell ?

  • Actually Romans hated the fact that they had emperors. They didn't like the fact that somebody who was suppose to be representing them was living in the lap of luxury.

  • It's not like that... In the emperial rome citizens liked emperors but after the death of ottavianus the other emperor were dumbs so they started to change their mind.(like nerone or galba, vitellio, otone and much more)

  • "The Edict of Milan was a letter that proclaimed religious toleration in the Roman Empire"

Theodosius I made Christianity the official state religion, 54 years AFTER Constantine!

  • Who are these guys? A lot of misinformation...#1 the Emperor Constantine did NOT make Christianity the official religion of Rome....he DIDN'T declare the Edict of Milan on his death bed! All the Edict of Milan did was de-criminalize being a Christian! Sheesh!

  • I'm not going to argue with you. Our information is valid. Thanks for your comment!

  • Sorry, but it was the Emperor Theodosius I in 391, some 54 years AFTER Constantine, who made Christianity the official religion of the Empire.

  • Lol. Pewned.

  • Did you studied history ??? I don't think so. Or maybe you studied "your" history

  • I re-iterate, the video is wrong....

It was the Emperor Theodosius I in 391, some 54 years AFTER Constantine, who made Christianity the official religion of the Empire. Constantine did NOT make Christianity the official religion of Rome....he DIDN'T declare the Edict of Milan on his death bed! All the Edict of Milan did was de-criminalize being a Christian!

  • You are wrong. Here we study Latin for 20 year, all school years long. I read the edict of milan in Latin and the names wrote on it are Constantinus and Licinus NOT theodosius. The date in it is 313 NOT 391. SURE. Personally I saw the engraved stone of the edict whit those names and that date. I would put my hands on fire as Muzio Scevola did cause I m sure about that. 100%

  • Did you read what I wrote? Constantine issued the Edict of Milan 313 AD. It did NOT make Christianity the State religion, Constantine remained the Pontifex Maximus of the pagan Roman religion. However... in 391 AD Theodosius I made Christianity the official State religion! That's a fact, guess you'll get your hands burnt.

  • oh sorry I misunderstood the two questions. Sorry again you were contesting the fact that they say that the edict of milan was signed right before his death. Ok sorry I read again you comments and you are right about all. Sorry again for my misunderstanding

  • "Directly after his victory Constantine granted tolerance to the Christians and next year (313) took a further step in their favour. In 313 Licinius and he issued at Milan the famous joint edict of tolerance...Therefore they had decided to grant Christians and all others freedom in the exercise of religion. Everyone might follow that religion which he considered the best. ..."

  • "Theodosius I promoted Nicene Trinitarianism within Christianity and Christianity within the empire. In 391, he declared Christianity as the only legitimate imperial religion, ending state support for the traditional Roman religion."

  • ROMA-CAPTUT MUNDI

  • Gotta love the ancient Romans...

  • Yep!

  • in my opinion the greatest empire of all time though they didnt quite know how to handle other people thats why they fell, not so diplomatic in the conquered land...nice video

  • Good work guys. With exeception of moving the camera around in the begining and wearing a baseball cap i will give you 8/10.

I noticed some of your narative seemed to contain a few sentences as if taken from the Roman War Machine documentary? Did you use that as one of your research sources?

Loved the logo at the bottom of the screen. You obviously like the History channel.

    Good editing and excellent soundtrack.

    Keep it up.

  • Hah! Yeah, we were using a 35mm adapter on the camera which made it unbelievably heavy, resulting in the shaking. But thanks anyway!

  • good work guys very interesting i really like history and how we used to be it is amazing to see it.

  • Ok, a few annoyances with pronunciation (Patrician: pə-ˈtri-shən, Plebeian: pli-ˈbē-ən), and a slack treatment of the Roman religion (sorry, guys - it was VERY important in daily Roman life for the first 1000 years of Rome's history), but not a bad first try.

    Music's very nice, btw.

  • Heh, yeah thanks. We made subtle mistakes, but learned from them. We aren't majors in this category. Thanks for the kinds words about the music.

  • Wow--how can you talk about Roman religion without once mentioned the state religion??? Christianity and foreign mystery cults were present, but never any real competition with the Religio Romana until very late in the Empire.

  • Eh, we forgot to. No matter, this assignment served its purpose.

  • Cool. Gotta love the ancient Romans

  • nah i like carthage better

  • Excellent!! LOVE it!!

  • all religions are wrong the only one right is the religion of the ancient romans where zeus and the other gods ruled over the universe

  • Jupiter. Zeus was in Greece.

  • Great job!

  • Nicely done. I love ancient and present day Rome :).

  • next time use something pagan instead of christian for the soundtrack

  • No thanks. The music fits the film just fine.

  • The music is all original... But 2 tracks arnt

  • Nice, I am an ancient Rome fanatic. Watch your copyrights an such. Quite professional.

  • loved the music! very professional film, too!

  • Wow, nicely done.

  • I am a Greek with a profound knowledge of ancient history.

I have to say that your video, apart from its astonishing soundtrack, is very accurate as well, save some very very minor details regarding some background images.

    10/10. A work of art.

  • good job...

  • Thank you :]

  • nice

  • Beautiful, very professional. I love the music too.

  • nice movie
