Excellent job, guys! Love the parallels you draw, in pictures and words, with the USA, which I agree is a cultural empire- a commercial and military one too- which I sincerely hope won't fall for a long time yet.
Good video - Adam 26 M UK The romans have done a lot to shape our modern way of living. They introduced laws and politics Straight roads / Cobbled Roads Meassurements Alphabet Rooms in the home Religion Hygene (Baths, Public Toilets) Water Systems High structured Buildings Im very facinated by the early organisation the romans had yet took such a strong impact on modern ways of living, streir organisation & commandment PS What software was used to make this video
Because Egypt was politically instable within own borders, it was easy for the Romans to take control and integrate. The Romans just copied the way of living, government, infrastructure etcetera
Im not aware of egyption history as much so I cannot comment but one thing that cannot be denied is the fact that it was the romans who spread it though their concoring
Alphabet was a roman thing, even tho egyptions had Hieroglifics, it wasnt letters but pictures.
The egyptians made piramids and caves which are high structures but I means like modern society (Coloseum etc)
Augustus Caesar is the true son of god and saviour of peace you dume italian slaves of sparticus Io, Saturnalia!"Ho, praise to Saturn"). The 12 days of satunalia God or Goddess Jupiter Juno Neptune Mercury Vesta Minerva Mars Ceres Apollo saturn Diana Venus

Constantine made the rules for Christianity. No work on Sunday, being he made Sunday the 'holy day' or the Sabbath day for worship, taking away Friday at sunset until Saturday sunset as the Sabbath day. Christianity has gotten so twisted over the centuries, with people being more concerned with how they look to others, rather than the condition of their spiritual heart, and following GOD's commandments.
Are you joking!?!?! You need a tripod, a better sound man and high quality video. And what's with the Christmas background?!?!?! It's a valiant effort but you can do better than this. Sorry but as a film studies major myself, I know you can do better.
I must admitt- this is one of the best docs I have seen about Ancient Rome. The presentation was excellent along with the dramatic music. Gret Job. Can you do a doc on Roman burial rituals?
Good job. Even though I already knew a bit of this before hand, I enjoyed it. However, some of the shaky camera sections made it look a little less professional. Still, I liked it. 5/5
I've already learned my share of Roman history, but had I been ignorant to the culture this video would have taught me a lot. I agree with some of the previous posts, the comparison with the US was a bit much and I thought could have been left out. But still a very nice video. Great job :)
"The United States is not a territorial empire"...oh really? Then why have they put trillions of dollars into waging wars all over the globe and setting up huge military bases on every continent?
Slaves were of Roman and Greek ethnicity in Rome. Think of Serfdom. Some families sold their family members to pay off debt. And the Greeks and Romans did not get along. In the beggining Greek and Rome conquered each other on and off before Rome came into its grandeur. Christianity became the official religion through murder, torture, etc. to kill the Roman/Etruscan religious beliefs of polytheism.
On the one hand, a concise and educational view of Roman culture ... on the other, the frighteningly pretentious suggestion that present-day US America might be comparable.
you really think to teach us history! Just by your 500 years made by killers, yankees, wars for oil and atomic bomb???
please, try to be clever, for real i mean!
romans, greece, babylon..we are talking about civilization: read, write, policy, anything we are still today. we are not talking about baseball and "pimp my car".
no relations between romans and americans...roma is history, usa want to make history because they don't have it.they killed the history of their land and try to kill everywher
nothing special maid...just try to reduce the typical american presumption about history and contemporary world policy..is not your fault anyway, you r a nice guy and made a good resarching job...keep on, you will learn more :-)
Great performance 4 of 5 possible stars from me. Romans were culturally as well as territorially dominating Europe at that time. Drawing parallel lines to the United States of America is definitely a really clever idea. I think the US is dominating even more culturally then territorially, because the Romans were permanently trying to expand their country lines.
Todays situation has changed and the Western world won`t expand their size as far as 69 years ago, when the Germans tried their luck in Europe in 1939 to 1945. I think that all predominating empires as well as todays dominating countries will collapse soon or later in their own misery. By the way the Russians are back, the Chinese are growing as well as North Korea is preparing for something else than world peace, believe me :P
Great movie I only have two problems, one slaves weren't the only source of labor, much of it was done via paid day laborers.
Two America is a territorial empire just like Rome in that it currently extends beyond it's original borders and has armies protecting client kingdoms and allies all over the globe. Not that there is anything wrong with that; just as Rome needed to protect her allies and punish her foes, so too does America need the same.
Rome is center of our civilization, it our beginning and our story of the western civilization, law, education, family, culture, trade market , military, navy , horns, ect ect....this is Rome.
legioVmacedonica it was teh athenians who created western culture but it was the romans who kicked ass the most with it in ancient times;) now we have EU and USA carrying on that role
La tua conoscenza storica è superficiale e antistorica, richiedi ripetizioni di storia. I greci sono i primi ad ammettere che la culla della società occidentale sia Roma, con più di 2000 anni di storia. Ciao ex colono deportato :)

Actually Romans hated the fact that they had emperors. They didn't like the fact that somebody who was suppose to be representing them was living in the lap of luxury.
It's not like that... In the emperial rome citizens liked emperors but after the death of ottavianus the other emperor were dumbs so they started to change their mind.(like nerone or galba, vitellio, otone and much more)
Who are these guys? A lot of misinformation...#1 the Emperor Constantine did NOT make Christianity the official religion of Rome....he DIDN'T declare the Edict of Milan on his death bed! All the Edict of Milan did was de-criminalize being a Christian! Sheesh!
It was the Emperor Theodosius I in 391, some 54 years AFTER Constantine, who made Christianity the official religion of the Empire. Constantine did NOT make Christianity the official religion of Rome....he DIDN'T declare the Edict of Milan on his death bed! All the Edict of Milan did was de-criminalize being a Christian!
You are wrong. Here we study Latin for 20 year, all school years long. I read the edict of milan in Latin and the names wrote on it are Constantinus and Licinus NOT theodosius. The date in it is 313 NOT 391. SURE. Personally I saw the engraved stone of the edict whit those names and that date. I would put my hands on fire as Muzio Scevola did cause I m sure about that. 100%
Did you read what I wrote? Constantine issued the Edict of Milan 313 AD. It did NOT make Christianity the State religion, Constantine remained the Pontifex Maximus of the pagan Roman religion. However... in 391 AD Theodosius I made Christianity the official State religion! That's a fact, guess you'll get your hands burnt.
oh sorry I misunderstood the two questions. Sorry again you were contesting the fact that they say that the edict of milan was signed right before his death. Ok sorry I read again you comments and you are right about all. Sorry again for my misunderstanding
"Directly after his victory Constantine granted tolerance to the Christians and next year (313) took a further step in their favour. In 313 Licinius and he issued at Milan the famous joint edict of tolerance...Therefore they had decided to grant Christians and all others freedom in the exercise of religion. Everyone might follow that religion which he considered the best. ..."
"Theodosius I promoted Nicene Trinitarianism within Christianity and Christianity within the empire. In 391, he declared Christianity as the only legitimate imperial religion, ending state support for the traditional Roman religion."
in my opinion the greatest empire of all time though they didnt quite know how to handle other people thats why they fell, not so diplomatic in the conquered land...nice video
Good work guys. With exeception of moving the camera around in the begining and wearing a baseball cap i will give you 8/10.
I noticed some of your narative seemed to contain a few sentences as if taken from the Roman War Machine documentary? Did you use that as one of your research sources?

Ok, a few annoyances with pronunciation (Patrician: pə-ˈtri-shən, Plebeian: pli-ˈbē-ən), and a slack treatment of the Roman religion (sorry, guys - it was VERY important in daily Roman life for the first 1000 years of Rome's history), but not a bad first try.
Wow--how can you talk about Roman religion without once mentioned the state religion??? Christianity and foreign mystery cults were present, but never any real competition with the Religio Romana until very late in the Empire.

Ive found out the difference between romans and greeks.
The greeks were thinkers while the romans were do'ers.
Greeks did philosophy and mathematics.
Roman built aquaducts, baths, arenas, forums and conquered Europe through superior military tactics.
