  • You sound like a British Vietnamese guy.

  • @RegulusPure Not that it is important but for your information, I am British but I am not Vietnamese.

  • I have a 40 Gallon aquarium that has been running for 2 years now. I can't figure out why that tank keeps having high nitrate levels. I have other tanks and the nitrates stay low in those tanks. Any ideas?

  • @mosaicglass Maybe because that fish tank isn't highly aerated or the sponges within the filter is too saturated (although, the more mature it is, the better which means I could be wrong). Just do more frequent water changes to keep it down as it will remove and keep the nitrates to a minimum level (but not low enough to corrupt the nitrogen cycle)

  • Nice video - I really like this - I'm going to try something like this in a 2 litre bottle (or maybe a bottle with a larger mouth) - While you don't really need an air stone it would help break up the bubbles more - I just took out and under gravel filter from my tank - so I have all the optional parts lying around - Good vid

  • @Kabosh709 Thanks for the comment and I think a bottle with a smaller mouth will be better as it will have a bigger impact towards driving the air out, hence drawing in the water into the filter chamber.

  • go to my channel to check out my homemade filter

  • All I could focus on what the fact that you're wearing a tank shirt in the middle of winter....

  • y dont u just go buy a filter because the things u need might cost more than buying an ordinary filter but if u have these things laying around i mean its a good idea

  • I got a beta fish in a tank little less than a gallon. I want to put in some air bubbles, but cant afford it, can you make something smaller?

  • @5mudg3420 les than a gallon? what the fuck is wrong with you?

if you can afford give the fish back to the pet shop and stop torturing it

  • @kurei008 Lol, stfu, its a fish

  • @5mudg3420 Lol, stfu you peasant. you cant afford an airpump?

  • @kurei008 Thats fucked up, I can't. Back off man Iv been working hard to get the money for one.

  • @5mudg3420 btw if you did your research, you would know betta live in still water and dislike bubbles or currents.

  • @kurei008 Im going to do a low flow filter drip most likely..

  • Great video! Liked the music too ")

  • is it ok if there is there is no undergravel parts?

  • @joshy39769 yes it is fine without it, customise it which ever way you like until it suits your need (heavy filtration require more materials)

  • so this is basically an internal filter ??

  • @ninaconDios Yes it is which basically means it would not work without submerging this filter into the water.

  • can we use any kind of cotton or it doesnt matter you said there are 3 or 4 choices but i dont know the choices just wondering

  • @TonyYaajETC The one that suits your setup the best, if the container you are using is big enough, you could have a combination of media which is very beneficial. As far as I'm aware of, any cotton will do.

  • can i use sphere airstone

  • @2000Louiemega If it fits then yes.

  • can i use spere air stone

  • can i use spere air stone

  • Nice video Kev, I subscribed

  • @Forzsa Thank you for your support =)

  • never use a kitchen cleaning sponge!!! they have chemicals in them that kill bacteria which won't hold good bacteria and the chemicals are very dangerous for fish.

  • thus the air pump still give O2 ??

  • @squelch6225 The purpose of the air pump is to supply oxygen to the fish tank, so the answer is yes.

  • nice informative video.. I planning to make one for my 54 lrs aquarium using ceramic rings instead of gravel .. will it be ok .. I hv 1 id shark (6") and 5 goldfish (4" each). can i use this as the only filter..

  • @iluvaquarium

Because goldfish produce a lot of faeces, the water quality won't be pristine; hence this filter is only good as a secondary filter or a primary filter in a small tank.

  • WHAT ABOUT COTTEN BALLS REPLY PLZZZ FAST

  • @cage9876

    You can use those also.

  • u must be blood type A group or a virgo, reply me if yes.

  • @DiscusKev nah, juz feeling to ask after watching ur video... no offense, so.. tx for de video and tell me my guess was correct... ;-D

  • u must be blood type A group or a virgo, reply me if yes.

  • Hi mate, great video. I can see you really enjoy helping people by making these vids & i enjoy watching them. Very good information. Personally, i think id rather just buy a sponge filter for about 7 quid which im guessing will do the same job....but hey man, thats just me coz im lazy : ) i love the vids, keep em coming.

  • @dodge511

Thanks. I made this video because some people don't know about a sponge filter or is not available in their LFS (A Youtuber messaged me asking where I bought the sponge filter, which I then referred them to a website but they were reluctant to buy online; so yea, it's pretty much limiting themselves from getting a sponge filter, hence they could make their own)

Will make more DIY videos in the near future =]

  • thank you great idea :!!

  • The kitchen sponge is toxic by the way.

  • @caiocrz

I been using that in my HOB filter on my other tank (the smaller one) for these discus fish and they are still alive.

Maybe it depends on the quality of the sponge? Obviously, you would want to give it a good rinse or even replace it (which I do as the sponge is cheap) every 2 week or so.

  • Nice Vid

  • Nice Vid - well put together and informative.

Wearing a T-shirt in the snow. Are you sure you're not from the North East? I was led to believe that London went into hibernation when it snowed. Damn media lied to me.

Have a great Christmas and new year yourself - you're racking up the views quite nicely.

  • @pondguru

Thanks, took me well over 5 hours to make and compile it together though. To bad I had to rush some parts like reading the presentation; hence there's slight pauses.

It's actually a vest lol, it's not that cold; I actually went to build a big snow ball that day (18.12.10) that was about 1 metre in diameter. The snow is considered thick in London but it won't be considered thick in other places (ie: Canada).

You too, Merry christmas and have a happy new year!

  • very cool

  • @Jazzy78910

    Hello Jarrad, thanks for watching.

  • Very informative keep up the good work mate!

  • Very Cool !

  • @paintpro785
