davie, if you're looking for the uv cure i use clear cure goo and really like it, it's super easy and they post to anywhere *they have a channel on you tube with a link to their site
hey davie, this summer me any my family are going on a fly fishing trip to a cabin in 27 ackers with private acess to 3 streams 1 is elk creek the other too belong to boone, in north carolina, have any flies or tips to help me im a novice fly tyer and fisherman, ive only done mainly saltwater flyfishing here in florida, and flies for that area or tips would be great!, thanks so much and all your vids are great! - m1
I used a clear five minute epoxy from Halfords but I hope to buy the epoxy which sets with a UV Light, as far as I believe it's the same as the one that dentists use.
have you tried a urethane finish instead of epoxy? No two part mess (or UV light!). I have tried it on some bead nymph casings and it seems to be nice and clear/glossy.
What do you think?
BTW, great vids, always look forward to a new pattern from you, although that ghost fly was a bit of a monster!
the product is called Liquid Fusion by Duncan Crafts - no not a Scottish firm, but here in California (website is duncancrafts - search for "urethane").
It runs to around USD$6 for 2 fl oz (59 ml). I is labelled as non-toxic and is water soluble when in liquid form (easy cleanup). It dries to a hard glossy waterproof clear coat with little, if any shrinkage.
I'm mostly using a pair of Anvils and as well a black handle copy which are not too bad. But I was lucky enough to find a pair of the Thomspon midge which are being sharpened just now as they had been used a bit so here's hoping they last as long as my old pair..
If I ever get a chance to visit Pennsylvania I would certainly drop by your club...
The bobbin holder I use is a Tiemco heavy ceramic, and like you said it's important to adjust the arms of the bobbin holder so that the thread flows smoothly from it at the right tension...

Hi MrCafe133,
I've never tried a urethane finish, but it sounds easier than the others what brand do you use?

If you were going to put a throat on this pattern (sorta like the Irish Cormorant) would you use a lighter color?

Hi ru4phoucnserios,
My first choice would be red next would be black but you could easily tye in a few different colours or even a bit of flash...

can you tell me what brand of bobbin you use, it doesnt seem you ever pull the thread out like i do , is it all about getting the right tension?
