you have them there but they are called modeling paste... and fondant is also called sugarpaste. have you seen aine2? you have to see her work here and visit her website because she is so near you
there's cakecircles/cardboard underneath the lids-which are all covered in gumpaste. i had to predrill holes in them since stacking the cake would require that the dowels pierce the lids underneath
i am hoping i can make a small one this weekend. i will let you know . but for an idea, i made a video here on how i titled the cakeboard for the yo gabba gabba cake-- it's the same concept. just imagine the bottom board to be cake, the the top board to be the box lid. you have to wedge something in between. but illl try my best to make it this weekend !
hi ms mayen am wondering panu mo na stack un mga cakes...super na amaze ako!..un bottom tier it looks like a box w an open lid..un lid,wat was it made of? is it a board covered with fondant?..am so super amaze tlga on howd u pile these cakes..it look so tilted but i know its sturdy naman becoz it has wooden dowel....pls pls explain coz u made me wonder so much...i hope i can make one like this!..hahaha...ilove ur cakes...and u made me wonder a lot..hahaha
Thats one amazing cake. You must have been doing this for a long time.
I am doing a two layer wedding cake, a small one, done with rolled fondant. Do I need to put a board under the top layer? It will be sitting on top of the other layer. I dont want a board showing between layers. this is going to be the first cake I do with rolled fondant.
You will need a cake circle ( not a board ) ... the cake circles are much thinner and should not show when placed on top of the other tier. When you lay the fondant on the cake, make sure you overlap justa bit on the very edges to cover the cake circles. it should look seamless when done this way
The rabbit at the top is adoooorable! I've just gotten into cake decorating, but am too scared to try doing figures and characters yet. You've inspired me to at least THINK about trying to do it ha ha.
when you fo try to make the figures, try having ready made gumpaste with you-- cause it's awesome to start with the perfect medium--and then later on, you can either make gumpaste from fondant and tylose, or make it from scratch--either way, you'd know the perfect consistency you need. it will make a huge difference to start your figure modelling with the best possible materials--and will give better results :)
Hi, this is Rubi from mexico, this cake is amazing, beautiful, congratulations mayan, i love to see your cakes, and i dream with to made something like this, some day in my life LOL thanks for your videos.
Hello Mayen...I made the Elmo and I also got inspired by you to take on cookie monster and big bird...they came out great...but they are shrinking down in the past 24 hours...I am so depressed beacuse his Birthday is this Sunday. I was going to re-do them maybe in gumpaste but I don't know if that would do any difference. I don't know where to get the tylose...like you told me...so my hamds are tid at this momment. HELP....
Hi Mayan, this cake is so beautiful...I hope I can get there. I was wondering what do you put in the fondant so it can hold it's shape...my Elmo started tall and now he looks more sqished down...I guess due to the wait. Do I redo it in gumpasted instead? Any help is much I appreciated. Thannk you.
Hi again... you need tylose to make your fondant 'turn' to gumpaste... if you are using ready made red fondant this is the only way to go to achieve the same red color for the elmo. if you buy ready made gumpaste and color it red, im not sure if you will get the same intense red color.
hi .sorry for the laste response... this is stacking boxes on top of each other. i used wedges in between to give it a raised look and i stuffed it with fondant that looked like hankerchiefs.pls remember to add some dowels to support the covers themselves for they are heavy
I am so amazed at the progress of your cakes! You are becoming an amazing decorator! Do you think you could email me some tips on how to accomplish the topsy turvy look? I would really appreciate it!! Thank you :)
Thank you ! I also have trouble having an exact design in my head. To be honest, the actual design changes everyday-- and you will tweak it while you make it sometimes. But once the design finally emerges in my head, then it is much faster to work from there on.
WOW...i'm speechless.....how long did it take u to do this????? It is absolutely the coolest cake i've ever seen!! You can give "Ace of cakes" show a run for his money!!! GREAT JOB!!! But i'm still trying to figure out how you did it!!!! Maybe one day u can post a tutorial on some of your techniques. A++++++++
Haha... it took a week ! Well, I had to do the parts one by one, and have them dry completely before I assembled it. Whew, if I could figure out a way to squeeze a week into 5 minutes... one day I might be able to do that ... thanks again cris, and I am SO loving your cakes! Im excited to see YOUR cake #11...
Mayen congratulations...! I like what you did with your cake. Your creations are truly amazing, and even if its your first your cakes always look like they are "Ace of Cakes" (FoodNetwork Show) material. Keep it up!
whoa! that made me teary... thanks for appreciating this-thanks a LOT :) i know it's a far cry from Duff's cakes... he's a true pro!!! I'm such a fan--and I'm so happy to be in the same state as him and his crew!
Aw wow!! I need to do this too!! It does look so much more vibrant! The tail end of my last video was filmed during the day and what a difference!! *sigh* You were definitely born for this, you amazingly talented woman you!! Love the your baby's head bobbing around the table too, so cute!!
MAN!! IT LOOKS EVEN BETTER IN DAYLIGHT!! It almost looks fake...like a sculpture. I would be too afraid to eat that cake. Now you've inspired me to want to make my 1st topsy turvy cake for my 18th birthday (august 4th WOOHOO). I don't know how, tho. I'll learn. Maybe if I stare at your cake long enough I shall learn. I seriously didn't envision this cake to be so COOL!! I'm jealous :P I want a cake like that for my birthday. I want to try for a fantasy world type of topsy turvy cake if possible.
I'm SO happy this cake got you THAT excited ! How I wish you lived near so we can make that birthday cake for ya :) It looks tricky, but if you start early ( like give the gumpaste time to dry ) Im sure you can make it!!!
Oh thank you :) Being called "artsy" is a dream come true!! I'm a super frustrated artist ( painting-wise )... but i'm happy you find this artistic :)
hello mayen, iam just wondering how do they cut the cake and isnt you have gumpaste as well, isnt hard to cut it or eat it?
