  • DICE needs to combine this with Frostbite's destruction engine. IMAGINE!!

  • they need to put this in every game than we can blow the fuck out of maps no wories anymore that someting gets in your way XD

  • If you look closely you will see that the parts are always the same.

  • FROSTBITE 2 BABY

  • I was qishing valve would at least implement this into the source engine for portal 2..

  • Actually, Half-life 2 uses that "Boring" style of breaking stuff, but it breaks in sooo many pieces that its "different" everytime! Stop complaining!

  • this can be made in HL2 with physboxes

  • @gultask HAHAHA!!! Physboxes are NOTHING compared to DMM, DMM is very very powerful.

  • Game still sucks

  • @manrayer88 Unleashed one was okay, although the DMM did suck. Unleashed 2 just sucked.

  • proprietary code, so it's completely wasted. Way to go Lucas

  • This guy has a grudge against R2.

  • Comment removed

  • i like the part where he threw the robot

  • ............lets hope that this engine is on HL3 :D you hit wood with a gun ...... nothing happens just a little stik fly away..... again......again.....again..... then u throw a granade and a wood spliter fly in ur face and u are dead.......

  • they barely used this in the game T_T

  • @blingdog15 i didn't se it at all, or maybe the windows... nothing you noticed anyways..

  • Wasted on star wars imagine that kind of stuff in gta4 ;/

  • "And by "Breaks like wood", we mean breaks like Rubber."

  • Now this is interesting, looks realistic... this must be a standard in future games !

  • If this was available in Left 4 Dead, it would probably take forever to take down a door unless you destroy the hinges.

  • its cool but look at how they improved it on star wars force unleashed 2 plus with havic physics

  • Is Unreal development kit?

  • DMM + map from gta IV + the story from HL and voice acting + the weapons from RFG + the realisticness from FC2 + handheld protal divice = my deam game:D

  • The whole tech is useless, when its not used in games. And i dont see this being used much at all.Maybe its because consoles are so limited? I don't know. Its like having a good cookie, that you never eat.Whats the point making it then anyway? :D

  • @cyberdaemon All it takes to be useful is a game design that makes use of it. Jumping down from heights onto flexible surfaces, for instance, or even more sophisticated versions of Crush the Castle with various types of projectiles and protective armor. Imagine an FPS with RPGs and a tank with armor based on this technology.

  • @TerrorBlack There arent games, that use it.Besides that stupid Star Wars game.I have been thinking, if games like Just Cause and GTA series had a vehicles made out of DMM.You could drive over a car with a tank and instead of exploding, the specific part would get crushed, while rest stayed pretty much intact. Not to mention all of the buildings. But for all of that, im afraid we need next generation consoles to come out, before they start really using this kind of stuff.

  • @cyberdaemon Or we could play it on PC today...

  • @TerrorBlack Developers dont really do any PC exclusives and they also dont like the idea of making PC version of a game many magnitutes better, than console counterpart. They want all versions of cross platform games to be closely identical.

  • @cyberdaemon Far Cry, Crysis, Age of Empires 3, Starcraft 2, Heroes of M&M V, Doom 3... there's plenty of PC-only flagship titles even now. Especially those that are essentially tech demos, like iD's and Crytek's games.

  • @TerrorBlack Far Cry is on console too, Doom 3 is on original Xbox. You forgot to mention Company of Heroes, Silent hunter series, Arma 2.But anyway, not many game developers would bother doing any more any PC exclusives, that push the boundaries of a gaming tech.

  • @cyberdaemon Considering it's been 4-5 years since the latest console releases and the only next-gen console even _announced_ is Nintendo's 3DS handheld, I'd say tech demo PC exclusive titles are only going to become more common.

  • @TerrorBlack We will see about that.If by 2012 there still is no next gen consoles, then yes there might be something like that. And then every console owners screams, how they want that on theyr console and many dont understand the simple fact, that its simply impossible.Because they think, how everything can be squeezed on theyr little console.

  • I just think it's crazy that no games other than the Force Unleashed have used DMM yet. It's a fantastic engine.

  • Wii Sports Resort incorperates this engine type Wii Sports Resort speed slice in the search engine and observe as the player(s) hack objects to bits.

  • where i this game can you find this???

  • IS THERE A DOWNLOAD!!

  • I found the use of this in the game is quite sad :(

  • how i get it?????????

  • whoa!! put this on gta 5 then were good to go!! haha

  • Wow so many of these people are from 3kphillip's video :P

  • @marquisRicketti

lol the very first TEN links show posts about how we should go there. You guys are defeating your own purpose.

  • This is going to be on HL2:EP3.

  • Damn, bet my computer can't handle that.

  • how do u know it??

  • Sorry I meant Half-Life 3. Search for "half-life 3 dmm"

  • oh well - this is possible but EP3 will be on the source engine...

i wanz half life ep3 and hl3 NOW!!! XD

  • where can i get this demo pleeeaaaassee??!?! i will freak out, if there isnt any download....!!!!

  • It's a demonstration of what the engine can do. So, no, you can't get it. Freak out ! :)

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!

    9438zt39478tz459gireugp30h8g9f34u93u7g9h39gOMOMOGMOGMOMOGMGOMGOMGO

    oslsol ok

  • @paulytby This is what i found from google.

In addition, AMD is announcing its sponsorship of FREE DMM2 for the PC platform. The Free PC version has no DMM license fee for development or production deployment and includes all the features of the premium version including GPU acceleration. Free PC DMM2 is expected to be made available shortly to interested developers.

  • @Jonassssss6 if u go ps3 go on playstation network

  • @Jonassssss6 gametrailers

  • @Jonassssss6

you can always get force unleasged

  • that is... EPIC!

and yea we need super computers to use this engine on different games and optimize 100% of this technology

  • They should implement DMM on Ragdoll models, and have REAL dismemberment. Imagine it in a game such as Left 4 Dead. Now that's proper implementation of technology, I don't want to throw R2D2 into a piece of plywood, that's not fun at all.

  • It may not be fun for you, but imagine a giant firefight with large structures collapsing and splintering all around you in real time, etc.

  • Not possible on this generations systems without lag.

There is no way of optimising it, we just need to wait for technology to catch up with the requirements.

  • It sure is, maybe not with something as microscopic and detailed as this, but it definitely is. Ever played Red Faction Guerrilla? You can destroy any building in it, with no lag whatsoever (provided you have a decent system). It may not be DMM, but it is still really damn detailed.

  • As I said, it's not possible.

Red faction guerilla is nothing like DMM, it's just mass physics, which is very simple to optimise.

Real DMM would be, every single wall in the map would be penetrable, every single window breakable, every piece of cloth would rip, I could go on but youtube doesn't give you enough characters for me to explain it thoroughly.

Play the original Red Faction 1, that was basically the beginning of DMM.

  • How does DMM work anyway, if it doesn't swap out the parts with smaller parts? Anyways, I meant if you have very large scale DMM. No little wood chips or anything, but very big, low res "chunks".

  • Basically the way I believe they are optimising it at the moment, is the starting point is just a regular block, not hundreds of little props.

But when this comes into contact, or under pressure, the computer then switches it with the DMM model, which will be, in this case, all of the little wood fibres. They would probably include a few different presets for the fibres, possibly even 50-100 if they aren't lazy.

It's just my theory and theres no other way of optimising it without extreme lag.

  • One idiot down, 1.4 billion to go

  • I'm no idiot, and It's not healthy to go around calling people idiots. Especially when you don't say it directly to them.

And if you think you have a computer which can handle all of that happening at once, you go ahead and support this, DMM will not be available for a long time.

Weight and liquid are in the process of being optimised, nVidia's liquid simulator is a good example of this, any computer built with parts which have been developed recently will run it with ease.

    Enjoy your trolling

  • I wasn't calling you an idiot..

  • Well, it IS possible to run in real-time on current gen consoles. Of coarse, not as insanely realistic as this.

But in the final version of the Force Unleashed, the one object that i can remember that had DMM was the metal doors that you would through stuff threw to make the metal bend.

    Go play the demo.

I may be wrong though, so if I am, please correct me.

  • Maybe an XBox 360, as the GPU has better hyperthreading. If you noticed, they are obviously running it on an extremely highly expensive computer, and it's still lagging.

  • They could run it off the ps3's cell processor.

Naughty dog already off-loaded the Post-processing effects on to the ps3's Cell to give the gpu more room for better graphics (Ex: Uncharted 2).

My point is, The Cell Architecture is VERY different from CPU's like the 360's and cpu's in PCs. The Cell is able to do calculations that normally GPUs are only capable of doing. And in Uncharted 2's case, the cell calculated the effects faster than the GPU could.

Either way, I WANT THIS IN GAMES

  • Wrong they are not lagging, in fact the shit head who put this movie up actually did such a bad job I want to kick him in the teeth for it. There is some other better video of this around Youtube, and on that one they dont lag.

  • no its not their computer, its the video that is lagging

  • What is fun is seeing the structures around you react to the things thats happening. Such as explosion, highspeed collisions, liquid, weight, etc.. That would improve the feeling of realism in video games.

  • ....wtf? guys this is a DMM demo for STAR WARS!!!!! sow tf are you doing complaining about far cry?

  • This would have been better in COD 4 or something.

  • While playing this game, i never saw much of the DMM while playing, which made me sad cause this whould be great in a FPS

  • Force unleashed does not apply this physics system does not apply to the play station 2 and the wii...just so you know.

  • Because tossing some weights at wood breaks it....Still, It's great technology for future games

  • haha yea ur right

  • throw a object weighing a kilo or so at a plywood square firmly attached to the ground and it will break.

  • in the game you cant really enjoy the realism cos everything you break dissapears and dead enimies dissapear.

  • can u use that in the game

  • Yes you can.

  • what u mean sit in a room and throw r2d2s at wood how do u unlock that

  • Can someone please help me out? I'm confused. Is Digital Molecular Matter based on the physics engine? Furthermore, would you say Havok or DMM would be the way to go for a physics engine in an RPG similar to Oblivion? Lastly, the guy says at the beginning that materials will behave in a certain way. Is this what is meant by DMM or is it the physics aspect? Any help would be much appreciated.

  • i would get that game by itself. just breaking everything with tiny r2 droids

  • me too.

  • me too

  • me too

  • me too

  • dumbass ps3 and ps2 are good consoles I'm not really talking about swfu and real time crap, go back to school addict

  • LOL

Yeah, because a console that can dynamically deform and break objects, and generate animations IN REAL TIME is exactly the same as one that can't.[/sarcasm]

  • WHAT!? How can you possibly call PS3 and PS2 equals!? PS2 is SO MUCH behind, it's right above PSX stage and is just as good as PSP, I simply can't endure people like you, who just won't realize that PS2 isn't a good console anymore (of course it is, but not if you compare to the next gen platforms)...

  • I don't think DMM is breaks differently every time. I mean it does, but there are some similarities in which pieces stand. Sure it breaks a lot differently to a point, but you can tell that only certain segments will break. There are just a heck of a lot more breakable places.

But regardless, it still looks sick!

  • I even didn't have to turn my head. Noob. :)

  • dude i red this without flippin my head ...jackass....

  • lol well anyone can do that

  • maybe at least one person loool

  • WOW, that is so mature of you, anyone older than 10 can read this without flipping their head. Its called 3D comprehention, which you obviously dont have...

  • well that wood that didnt break must of been wood from the ps2 coz its shit on ps2 ps3 is the next generation i cant w8 to get one

  • Wow this is so true because mostly it is fake just like there wow i never realized thats how hard game companies work and now i will enjoy everytime i see good graphics not just get bored like someone who doesnt care thank you so much.

  • wtf? u owe me 1:45 of my life back

  • I feel sorry for r2d2

  • Wow.

  • DMM is really good but graphics sucks:(

  • why it looks awesome and you have to remember this is the first game to use this

  • You're right but when u think about crysis you should know what i meen.

  • Crysis is pretty shit even if it's pretty however. but then, it's just farcry with a few extras so I guess it's not worth arguing since FarCry was shit too.

  • I'm just saying that Crysis has awesome graphics. I don't have it so I don't know much else about that game but after playing Crysis this looks shit. That's what I'm saying.

  • Far cry is shitte because it has the lamest storyline ever (just like farcry2) at least crysis has nice storyline, and ppl just hate it because their PCs cant handle it maxed out...

  • wow, great spelling sir!

So yeah, if you only play FPS games for the storyline you're a fucking faggot. There's no other way to put it, all of them have pretty shitty stories.

Besides that, graphics mean jack shit if the gameplay is ass. Crysis is just a good example of a well polished turd. it may look good on the outside, but on the inside it's still a smelly disgusting turd.

  • By insulting people you just make yourself an asshole, and Crysis is at least a fun polished turd to play, not like far cry2 where you mainly search for diamonds and drive arround all the time

  • Both are boring lol

  • you're a complete idiot.

  • dmm has been around for a few years. it isnt the first game to use it

  • then what else games has dmm??

  • any game that uses a physics engine and has a way of making the maps can use dmm.

  • The only game out that has the DMM engine is the force unleashed. But there will be an Indiana Jones game coming out with it for PS3. No other games are using it yet... which sucks

  • if half life had it everything else would be done. halife life+dmm would be automatic win

  • true

lets just hope that valve maked DMM for ep 3

  • @paimail21

    >implying episode 3 isn't vaporware

  • @paimail21 And that it will then be in Gmod.

  • @paimail21 Yeah :D

  • @paimail21 Let's hope not, my graphics card sucks. :P

  • @paimail21 It won't, ep3 will be like every other HL2 game, just with pretty graphics, but I hope to fuck ep3 doesn't come out.

  • @paimail21 if they make ep3 -.-

  • @paimail21 Lets hope Valve even make an Episode 3!

  • @paimail21

No chance. If Episode 3 were to have DMM software, it would mean a complete Source overhaul/conversion. Source is in no way capable of DMM in its current state. It's getting old, but I doubt that Valve will update it. Ever.

  • @ROBLOXingHabbo I think it could, i have seen alot of great plugins for source. I have one working good in hammer right now :)

  • I don't recall seeing alot of plywood in the starwars movies. Jsut saying.

  • lol neither do i

  • its to show dmm, and its awesome ^^

  • kashyyyk would have wood.

dunno bout ply in particular ... but meh.

  • this is bullshit

  • SW:TFU :D ST:FU xD

  • I'm disappointed the demo didn't have wood in it so we could see if it breaks like this. I hope it's more realistic than the glass because the glass just broke into chunks. And I hope the physics based objects in the full game dont disappear.

  • They will dissappear, this is to save processing power etc.

  • Then it's 100% useless having DMM

  • there was a dumb fuck that saying he has worked at the game he didnt the mother fucker and too bad you cant cut some ones leg XD

  • There should be a sandbox game like GMOD with DMM like this... That would be AWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DEMO NOW ON PSN !!!!!

  • but not on US Store yet , just UK :)

  • I've been checking probably every half hour between shows, and I still don't see it...

  • poor R2

  • fanboys are fucking reatrds ITS A MACHINE you treat it like its your race defending it to the bitter end ugh, buy both consoles....

  • xbox 360 rules

  • this demo is not specificly for ps3

  • its actualy for 360

  • fuck off, xbot

  • Both PS3 and Xbox 360 will have DMM and Euphoria.

The demo that LucasArts reps made for each technology (originally shown to IGN I beleive) was probably run off of a computer sporting technology from both systems.

  • YEY xbox 360 will probably look aswell not washed up

  • The demo for SW:TFU is out on the marketplace.

It's definitely LucasArts' best run on graphics. Games generally have better lighting on 360 but they should look about the same on both consoles. From the demos given at GameSpot and IGN, it's a safe bet that they will be identical.

  • jesus there actually are some good games coming out this year....

  • what does dmm stand for ?

  • Digital Molecular Matter.

  • thats wot u call next gen gaming lol

  • im just wondering, is this on ps3 and 360? cuz that physics is awesome

  • does wii have or not have dmm, some ppl say yes some say no

  • the wii version has recreations of dmm and euphoria, but they aren't as good as the real thing.

  • it will break similar to that of the first board but will break into many peices to make it look a little closer to the dmm, but not as good.

  • better...

but why does the wood on the 2nd block bounce and flop around after it breaks... wood doesn't do that. it's not elastic...

  • a thin peice of ply wood has low resistance so when it breaks it bends and snaps off making that sort of motion.

  • he is actually using plywood which has some flex to it. They make skateboard ramps out of it, and skateboards to. The lighter stuff flexes a lot that is why they can get it to fit the curve of the ramps. I've broken both, and i have to say it's pretty frickin realistic.

  • It looks great!

  • It's awesome!

  • It so fuckin cooooool!!!

  • There is actually a video somewhere showing Metal, Ice, Glass and a Crystal Statue and even Jelly. Has anyone uploaded that on youtube? I remember seeing it here somewhere.

  • I never thought a game would exceed HL2 in manipulating the physical environment, but I think this game will do it.

  • thats awesome!

  • I wish us Wii owner have DMM for the wii version. well to tell the truth wii is powerfull enough to handle unreal 3, maybe lucus arts will support it.

  • wii also has dmm

  • ps3...awesome...PWN-ness.

  • thats like giving the wood a health bar. when they made the wood more dense, it took more hits to break it...that pwns....

  • wOW !!!!!!!!! REALLY GOOD !!!!!!!

  • Eric Parker, the programmer who made DMM, did a really good job with this demo!!

  • the xbox 360 version will have euphoria and DMM as well, right?
