I really like how there are certain sections of youtube that only certain demographics go to. For Example few people go to a distinctly Mormon video/song and come to argue, although it does happen.

You know what I just did read the description like krynen123 suggested. And this hymn was not even recorede in a Chapel in the church at all or even in the church. It was recorded in a school for for troubled youth. Yeah it was a fireside NOT the Temple where you can not go into if you smoke, the ONLY place you cannot go to if you smoke.....all other places or events you can participate in if you smoke. Read description to see how much he helped those youths.

This is by far my favorite rendition of this song. I really appreciate you sharing this moment with us. For those who seem so appalled, please read the video description. Don't allow your heart to be distracted or you will surely miss out on the great works of God.
This goes to show what a great voice he has in a natural non-amplified setting. because so many pop singers need autotuning and megamicrophones to sound good. But David's voice sounds so beautiful and uses such a great range without technology, just with the natural acoustics inside a chapel. I love that hymn, love Jean Sibelius's Finlandia, and love David's singing. Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Ohh my, I love this song sooo much, it totally brings the spirit into my life instantly. And it was taped not in a chapel, but a building for LSD troubled youth or something, my friends cousen was at this and he said it was incredible!
I just read the info above that says David himself and others present and involved approved the posting of this video. So whether or not they approved the taping at the time, I'd say this settles any argument or criticism of it.
@hannahfan007 I'm not Catholic so I don't know what Sacrament is, but in my (Baptist) church people sometimes tape baptisms, choir events, but I suppose that's different. He did a wonderful job though. I wish he had won American Idol, then again maybe he can do more without that restrictive contract

@lerjo991 Sibelius actually turned it from a symphonic ensemble, into a piano piece, into a hymn, then it was adapted to the classic english hymn you hear here.
Also, I recommend looking up the history of this hymn. Sibelius was almost killed for writing this song, seen as propaganda by the Russians!

@coconuty191 you look to Jesus and the Bible, so that makes you "Christian" in some kind of sense but not in the religious sense that the word "Christian" denotes because your doctrine is outside of it. From that perspective, Mormonism is a cult. Lots of cults are Christian-based but that doesn't mean Jesus isn't their spiritual leader and they aren't "Christian" in some sense. It's just in an independent manner.

@ekatnip You need to read a lot more into ancient Christian belief (before the Protestant movements started--first and second century. You'll find that the early Christian theologians actually believed in a hierarchy of holy beings, with God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirt as part of a triumvirate. There was no such thing as the "trinity" in early Christianity. Because all 3 are perfect, all 3 are unified in oneness..but early Christians never had a concept of a single God.

@BryB0x Stained glass windows, yes. However, inside the chapel room there are no paintings. There are paintings in the hallways of the building and other rooms but not the main room. We call both the building and the room where the main meeting is held chapels. But it is against church policy for paintings to be hung in the main meeting room. During that meeting we are to be introspective about our own lives. The paintings have a use in other parts of the building.
LDS chapels do not have paintings decorating the inside. This is in another religious chapel and it is not against any rules to record there. Have some faith.
Very beautiful rendition, although I naturally prefer original finnish words to this melody that was composed by a Finn, Jean Sibelius. Not a religious hymn but a very, very patriotic one.

You know what I just did read the description like krynen123 suggested. And this hymn was not even recorede in a Chapel in the church at all or even in the church. It was recorded in a school for for troubled youth. Yeah it was a fireside NOT the Temple where you can not go into if you smoke, the ONLY place you cannot go to if you smoke.....all other places or events you can participate in if you smoke. Read description to see how much he helped those youths.

SO HA HA HA... @ krymen123... So it was a fireside. People that smoke are not allowed to go to firesides. Wake up. O.k.... I am a mormon, but I also am not a racist. I believe just cause people smoke does NOT make them bad. He still has as much right to go to church as you do. He has the right to belong to our religion. He has the right to sing in church or at a fireside. Or where ever else he feels inspired to sing at. He has the right to go to all our meetings.
God loves him too.

What does it matter if he smokes. You are raciest. If you smoke you cant be mormon. I never heard that one. Yeah the church encourages you not to smoke, but a lot of mormon's do smoke. Many are trying to stop. So stop being so judgemental.. Remember in the Bible it say's " Judge not that ye be not judged. "

and i would like to add...it doesn't matter if someone smokes cigarettes.....the gospel is about LOVE...Jesus was crucified on the cross and performed the atonement...NO ONE ELSE... the only issue is getting permission to do something in the Lord's meetinghouse...as it is the Lord's...if the recorder received permission...it's done...as the Lord's house is a house of order and we just cannot go about rationalizing our actions no matter what the motivation. Permission first. then do.

Why can't a great voice just sing w/o the crap of everyone's viewpoints being expressed. The hypocrisy of you all. Mormon's who worship a book containing mythical characters, whose historical place cannot be validated through antiquities or in any documentation outside their own writings, have no place in judging in where and how Mr. Archuleta can sing.

For those of you who are confused where he's singing it's not in sacrament or in the chapel in the description it even says he's in a school.... Haha I was a little confused swell but awesome job it's kinda disappointing that he didn't get to go on a mission though :( but he is a great man I love how he still keeps his standards in the church

@monkekka Some people tend not to read the whole video description (which couldn't be clearer). As for him not serving a mission, that shouldn't be counted against him, in the words of President McKay, every memebr a missionary. Don't take that as an attack of course.

This goes to show what a great voice he has in a natural non-amplified setting. because so many pop singers need autotuning and megamicrophones to sound good. But David's voice sounds so beautiful and uses such a great range without technology, just with the natural acoustics inside a chapel. I love that hymn, love Jean Sibelius's Finlandia, and love David's singing. Awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Ohh my, I love this song sooo much, it totally brings the spirit into my life instantly. And it was taped not in a chapel, but a building for LSD troubled youth or something, my friends cousen was at this and he said it was incredible!

I just read the info above that says David himself and others present and involved approved the posting of this video. So whether or not they approved the taping at the time, I'd say this settles any argument or criticism of it.

@hannahfan007 I'm not Catholic so I don't know what Sacrament is, but in my (Baptist) church people sometimes tape baptisms, choir events, but I suppose that's different. He did a wonderful job though. I wish he had won American Idol, then again maybe he can do more without that restrictive contract

Me and the some from my ward sang this song for a kid in my wards funeral (suicide) And the song is TOUCHING my favorite line is "be still my soul, the hour is hastning on, when we shall be forever with the lord. when dissapointment grief and fear are gone" :) LOVE IT DAVIDDD!!! AMAZING!

@lerjo991 Sibelius actually turned it from a symphonic ensemble, into a piano piece, into a hymn, then it was adapted to the classic english hymn you hear here.
Also, I recommend looking up the history of this hymn. Sibelius was almost killed for writing this song, seen as propaganda by the Russians!

@coconuty191 you look to Jesus and the Bible, so that makes you "Christian" in some kind of sense but not in the religious sense that the word "Christian" denotes because your doctrine is outside of it. From that perspective, Mormonism is a cult. Lots of cults are Christian-based but that doesn't mean Jesus isn't their spiritual leader and they aren't "Christian" in some sense. It's just in an independent manner.

@coconuty191 sorry but Jesus Christ taught that he was the one true, and only God. Mormons believe they become a God. Christianity is Monotheistic, Mormonism is Polytheistic.

@ekatnip We know of one God, and we worship one God. We hope to become like our Heavenly Father, but even if we do inherit all that he has with Jesus Christ (Romans 8:16-18), He will always be our God. We are not polytheists. More info at mormon.org.

@ekatnip You need to read a lot more into ancient Christian belief (before the Protestant movements started--first and second century. You'll find that the early Christian theologians actually believed in a hierarchy of holy beings, with God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirt as part of a triumvirate. There was no such thing as the "trinity" in early Christianity. Because all 3 are perfect, all 3 are unified in oneness..but early Christians never had a concept of a single God.

@BryB0x Stained glass windows, yes. However, inside the chapel room there are no paintings. There are paintings in the hallways of the building and other rooms but not the main room. We call both the building and the room where the main meeting is held chapels. But it is against church policy for paintings to be hung in the main meeting room. During that meeting we are to be introspective about our own lives. The paintings have a use in other parts of the building.

LDS chapels do not have paintings decorating the inside. This is in another religious chapel and it is not against any rules to record there. Have some faith.

It makes me sad that when people see this all they see in the comments "Why are you recording in the chapel?"
God knows that this video is touching peoples' hearts. Don't be letter of the law. You guys that made those comments are acting like the priests that got mad at Jesus for healing a man on the sabbath. I am the same religion as you guys too so stop talking like that. It makes me sick that a lot of people think of is rules and not charity.
