  • This make me cry! RIP Lucy. I have a puppy Cav 6 Months old and I've just found out about this, I'm going to get her insured and pray to god this doesnt affect her. I cannot imagine my life without her, she's my baby x

  • This really made me cry. I had the same situation with my babydog few years back.

  • Can they get cured? I want one and stuff if it can't be cured I don't want one. By the way can you prevent it from happening?

  • @Julia9737 I seriously suggest you not to take one. It can be cured rarely and it will never leave entirely. And you can't prevent the disease 'cause it's hereditaly.

  • This really upset me i have a Cavalier King Charles named Lucky and i dont know what i'd do without her. It made me sad to see this and bit worried because my dog scraches her ears alot and loves laying on cold floor its scary thinking that she could have this terriable disease. for your dog though RIP she was beautiful x

  • this was so sad

  • Now that I think of it,

my sister had a Cavalier and he always yelped if you touched him, he would also

scratch behind for no reason, so we all thought? He was very deaf and was tragically kill

by a hit and run driver! But this was a blessing if he was getting this disease.

Thank you so much for telling about this devastating news!

  • Oh I am so sorry about your loss of your beautiful Cavalier! This is so heart breaking! I was thinking of getting a Cavalier, but I now think I might get a cross breed instead.

  • I have been researching these dogs for 4 years and have found countless stories and facts on this condition. One thing I want is to urge current cav. owners that suspect it in their cavs is to get more than one opinion from vets. Frankly veterinarians are hit and miss depending on how familiar they are on the breed.

  • My beautiful dog Penny is my whole world. She is 2 years old with sm. We noticed the symptoms when she started squealed when we tried to pick her up and she had difficulty climbing the stairs so we booked her for MRI which showed sm. Her case is severe as she has had it from a young age and we had her operated on. Sadly, I think it has redeveloped and she is in pain again

I can feel the love for your dog through your video and i cried so hard at the painful lives our dogs have shared. rip Lucy x

  • i feel sorry for lucy :s

  • It is heartbreaking. I also have King Charles Cavalier. Thank you for sharing the story withus.

  • im really sorry for your lost

i think that we should get more info about the cavalier king charles parents so we can know what health problems they have

i think that this dog is really cute, adorable, and sweet

so people please get information so you can have a sweet, cute but mostly healthy cavalier king charles spaniel

  • your dog lucy is beautiful! I'm so sorry for your loss.

  • This Is Heartbreaking To Watch, Our Dog Max Is The Image Of Lucy, He Also Has Syringomyelia, And Its Awful Knowing There's Not A Lot We Can Do About It. Max Is 7 Now, But It's Still Painful Knowing He's In Pain.

  • What a sweet girl; I'm so sorry for your loss. I have two adorable CKCSs (blenheim also), and my girl just had to go to the vet because she was acting lethargic and I noticed her yelp a couple of times for no discernable reason. It's her back, and evidently an ear infection also. I'm praying that she doesn't have this!

  • it makes me sad to see the video. My beloved cavalier altso had Syringomyelia, and it made him scratch alot. and he had much pain. He didnt like to wear collar or harness, it made him scratch. Sorry my bad english wrighting.

  • Im so sorry about Lucy, i have two ckcs, oscar who is now 6 and paris who is 18 month, after watching your video (fighting back the tears) i then went and gave both of them a special hug and just prayed to god that my two are free from this terrible disease. Lucy you were and are a beautiful girl, rest in peace sweet one. xxxxxx

  • @L1nds37 I am so upset to read all these stories, we too have been through the sad loss of our cav. Our beautiful boy was 6 years old, we always thought there was a problem with him since he was a puppy. Over the years he was treated for skin and food allergy but nothing helped him. During the last months of his life he deteriorated rapidly, his face became paralysed then his front legs. We miss him so much, he was such a gentle, lovely dog. Rest in peace beautiful Lucy

  • I've been wanting a cavalier for the longest and the only thing holding me back is my fear that she/he will get this (SM) and die early. But I leave you all with this...

I hope you all can seek immediate treatment for your lovely dogs and lastly RIP Lucy.

  • I am increasingly worried about my cavvie, Jethro - he has many of the symptoms I have researched. After examination my vet and a specialist at the Qld University Small Animal Clinic are also worried.

Sadly it costs between $2000-$3000 for an MRI and I simply do not have the money.

    He's only a year old.

  • Im very very touch with this whole situation, I was searching for a breed that would get attached with the owner and everyone recommended me the Cavs, so I was researching about it when I saw the BBC documentary and It really moved me. I did not give up the Cavaliers, I really wanna have one

  • @mariii9 I have had cavaliers for over 30 yrs and have never had any to suffer from this condition. I also breed them and i can safely guarantee that all my pups over the years have been very healthy. I do not agree with someone continuing breeding if they notice their dogs has signs and symptoms like the woman on the TV show. That is very irresponsible. However most of us absolutely love the breed and would do our best to be sensible breeders. Rose

  • @dickbumdick21 This video is not about you.

  • Omg that video made me cry. I have a cav shes two and i would be heart broken if that happened to her. Im so sorry for your loss. Lucy was beautiful xxxx

  • I am truly sorry for your loss. My Heart goes out to anyone who has lost a pet like this.

Such a Beautiful girl. So sweet.

  • I can't imagine how difficult this must have been for you and your family. I have a cavalier named Lucy and she also scratches. I came across the video yesterday on The Today Show site. I of course panicked. Besides itching, what other symptoms are there? Does the dogs personality change? I feel for your entire family. Lucy is a beautiful dog~RIP Luce

  • My dog was just diognosed with Syringomyelia 2 days ago we are all very sad

  • This is so sad. I hope we are not fated to repeat your story. We've taken our Cav to three different vets to try and work out what's wrong with her (one said allergies, others said ear infection) then I saw the documentary on ABC and have been in stunned shock ever since. Our Cav is 4.5 years old and has changed so much in the last few months from a happy excitable little dog to one who is withdrawn and confused. Not sure what the outcome will be now. Back to the vet today to discuss further.

  • Agreed. I saw the show on ABC and now im completely hurt by it.

I am curious though, without being insensitive, beautiful song choice. What is it?

  • I heard about this horrible thing Thurs night on ABC about the abuse of pedigree dogs. I have a cavie and it tore my heart strings to hear that they are allowed to breed these dogs with such coniditions. They are the most loving things in the world and it...there are no words. Ours has got some itching and i saw the dog scratching, and only caught a bit of it, but yeah its got me really worried now. She scratches mainly her left front leg, sometimes left ear coz she does have ear problems...

  • thanks for the video. at least i now know to look out for these symptoms in our Cav. it would be heart breaking to see this happen. i need to wipe these tears! RIP Lucy x

  • My little girl is showing signs. She has the vet tonight. Breeding dogs that have SM is a disgrace. Those breeders should be ashamed of themselves.

I'm so sorry for your loss. This video made me cry.

  • My dog is showing signs of syringomyelia hes having an MRI scan on friday Im praying he hasnt got it.

  • Anyone who really love dogs have to do something to stop this breeders, and stop cosanguineo intersection!!! Let's stop crufts and his mutation show!!! We love dogs...they don't have to suffer because of our ignorancy!!!

Really sorru for your lost...she was beautiful and irreplaceable!!

from a dog lover - Brazil

  • This is so sad. I have tears in my eyes. Our beautiful 1 year old cavalier, Coco, has syringomyelia. It's heartbreaking watching him suffer.

I'm so sorry for your loss :(

  • I agree with all those people. I have tears in my eyes as well.

I'm so sorry :( she was beautiful.

  • My uncle owns a Cavalier King charles spaniel; nine years old. There's been some scratching lately... and last night, TV3 Ireland broadcast a ducumentary on the breeding that helps this condition to increase in CKCs dogs..... the head of the UK Kennel Club, one Ronald Irving, who "promotes" the strange breeds that populate his Crufts show yearly, was weakly defending his show. Two Vets on the docu called Crufts a freak show, that should be stopped. I couldn't agree more.

  • Thank you for your kind words

  • Lucy was such a beautiful girl. I am so sorry. My Cavalier, Dylan, has the same condition but thankfully the pills are working for him, for now anyway. Give Arwen a kiss from me. Best wishes, Pauline xx

  • This video made me cry si much that my mascara is running down my eyes! I also have a cavalier who is 5 nearly 6 years old and everytime he is ill like not eating tired scratching ears, or when i pick him up and he is screeching in pain i think he has syringomyelia. I know it is quite unlikely as he is nearly 6 but i still worry. Thank-you for this video, although it made me cry so much it made me think about what if my dog had this awlful illness. Thank-you x

  • This is so painful to watch, tears are flowing seeing how sweet and beautiful Lucy was. Our two yr. old tricolor is showing all the signs (infrequently), but I can see this progressing much worse. We're at a loss what to do. Any ideas??

Blessings to you and your family for what loss you've endured. Thanks for sharing such an insightful video.

    -Janelle

  • that is so sad sorry for your loss i have tears in my eyes.

  • I am so sorry for your loss, I have tears in my eyes, I cant imagine how hard it is for you. Have fun at rainbow bridge dear Lucy xxxx Im so sorry again xx

  • Thank you so much Jamie I hope your dog will be ok :)

  • If there,s a doggy heaven, shes got to be the most beautiful one there XXX

  • Thank you Julie x

  • Thank you for sharing your beautiful lucy's life story. Sadly I believe that my cavalier Lexi has the early signs of his terrible disease, she also has 'dry eye ' syndrome, and is 3 years old. Your video has helped me a lot. What a beautiful dog Lucy was. Karen X

  • I will pray for Levi. Thank you for your comments :)

  • What a beautiful tribute to Lucy. We are picking up our 18 month old blenheim Jack next week. He has early signs of "possible" SM. Of course,we are hoping it is not true, but we have promised to give him the best of his days.

  • Thats bad i will get into contact with the charaty of cavalier king charles, who are trying to save this bread in the uk, i will let them know about this, people should be more responsible and not bread from dieasied animals, but thanks i will certainly look into this.

  • Heartbreaking... I'm sorry for your loss.

  • my puppy does scratch, and rub her face on things, but she has runny eyes, she has a few times welped when we have picked her up, God i hope that she doesnt get this diease, i will keep a close eye on her thanks for posting

  • what do u mean grantilley? is that a name of pedgree?

  • hi
