For those new to MacGyver and wondering why he threw the gun away during the first scenes it's because McGyver prefers non-violent conflict resolution wherever possible and refuses to carry or use a gun due to a childhood accident with a revolver that resulted in the death of a friend [see Season 4, Ep. 2]. Pilot episode he is seen using the gun, but without malicious intent. Also, MacGyver is often suspicious of militaristic attitudes within the government.

MacGyver rocks, I love this series!

As others have already mentioned, this is the second episode, but Youtube seems to have mislabeled several of the other episodes as well (you can tell which ones have been switched around by the air date). The season 1 listing is also missing episodes 4 (The Gauntlet) and 13 (Flame's End). You can find episode 4 on IMDB, but they too are missing episode 13.
