That's Paul Comi as the co-pilot. Not his first time in that seat; he was the co-pilot in the Twilight Zone episode "The Odyssey of Flight 33" where the airliner goes back in time.
Did an ADR session with Anne Francis about 16 years ago, and asked her about this film, which I'd seen repeatedly as a kid. She didn't say much except that she wished it had been picked up as a series, and been a steady gig for a while.
Looks like a great in-flight film - especially for how smoothly the plane continues to fly after part of one wing has busted off. That would calm any nervous passengers.
Back during the early 1970's to mid 1980's , this movie was broadcast all of the time on New York City TV station WOR- Channel 9. I first saw this 1969 sensational made for TV movie in the fall of 1971 on WNBC-TV, Channel 4. This film is now available on DVD. ABC-TV used the plot of this film for their " LOST " TV series. Fans of "The Outer Limits", "The Invaders", "The Rat Patrol", and "Branded" TV shows will recognize Dominic Frontiere's background music !
Actual 707 cockpit shots in the beginning, but ol'Lloyd is sitting in the cockpit jump seat for the takeoff shot....looks like they are using the Airport cockpit prop for the crash scene...that prop was used in the 1972 Skyjacked movie (modified a bit then)...great movie..have not seen in over 30 years :)
Loved seeing this when I was little. It's a pilot episode for a series that didn't get picked up. Cockpit and crash footage of this showed up in tons of other Universal TV shows and movies over the years. Thanks for the post!
A very underrated movie made for TV. Great scenery, acting, and special effects as well as using a real Boeing 707. A very soild list of experienced actors and actresses. It should have been out on DVD by now. This movie hasn't been shown in the US in about 20 years.
That was a jump seat shot of Bridges, great flick, last time I saw it was January of 1987
