OMG! How on Earth do you get him to jump and canter slow-like? I have a Paso Fino, but his gait is so bumpy I can half-way post with it. *lol* I have set up a few small crossrails, but he won't pick up his back feet to jump over it. And does your Paso bolt? When I ask Dakoda (my paso) to canter, all he will do is gait really fast.
When he does actually get up to a canter, is a hand-gallop and he won't stop. If you try to rein him in and make him slow-canter, he gaits again. Any advice? :(
Bubba and I have also formed an extreme bond and he knows that I will never place him in a dangerous position. Do you have that kind of relationship with your horse? Do you flex him at all whenever you ride him to make him more supple? I would recommend flexing him side to side before EVERY ride. Horses are creatures of habit so it might take a while to break the habit of popping out of gait, but try to reward the little things first. Use a one rein stop for bolting.
Stormywv1994 please send me your email if you don't mind because I actually wrote up and much more detailed description that YouTube wouldn't let me post. (it was far too long). It helps much more than my previous blog and I think that it will truly give you some guidance. The blog above doesn't help much I know, but I can't type a decent reply in such a sort word count, sorry.
I almost bought a Paso Fino (well, he was a gift from my dad's friend ;]) but apparently it was decided that it wasn't the time for my first horse. :[
Thank you for the nice comment. I hope that you get the opportunity to own a Paso one day because they are truly wonderful horses that have a lot to offer. There was at one point that I thought that I was going to have to sell him due to my overwhelming number of yearlings coming up to break, but I am going to hold onto him for as long as I can unless the perfect person comes to look at him.
Thank you so much. He is my baby and it works in his favor that he can do almost everything. I will have to make a video later of everything else he can do. Thanks for the comment!
